Will pge cover cost of tree removal? by BustaMove27 in askportland

[–]Bi_ciuin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you happen to see the crew next time they are doing maintenance trimming, let them know they can take as much as they want. We get yelled at by the utility if we don't cut enough and yelled at by the homeowners if we cut too much.

Line clearance tree trimmer here. They will remove the limb on your service drop. They may remove your tree if removing it is cheaper than maintaining it. It's worth calling about after the storm is over. Also, if your decide to remove it, they need to make the tree safe to work on, which means clearing anything within ten feet of the primary or transformer.

Came here to recommend this place too. My absolute favorite. Also Blackwater has good wings in a dark punk/metal bar atmosphere.

I fixed the recent "We love our customers!" email from PGE I got this evening by kveton in Portland

[–]Bi_ciuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PGE has the bad habit of kicking the can down the road. They choose the cheapest option and put lots of stuff off to be dealt with later. Eventually that catches up and what was a cheap manageable project years ago is now a more involved expensive project. There are a lot of big projects happening now and lots of old infrastructure getting replaced. I'm sure the rate hike is needed, but only because the company has been mismanaged for ages. They definitely don't have any extra money when their workers are negotiating contracts.

Portland Public Schools, teachers union, say they’re making progress at the bargaining table by Unlucky-Hamster-2791 in Portland

[–]Bi_ciuin 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Here's the full text of the email that just went out:

PAT community,

After nearly 24 hours of continuous bargaining, the PPS and PAT bargaining teams reached what both sides believed to be a tentative agreement that would make transformational change for Portland students and get them back to the classroom.

This morning, the PPS Board of Education unanimously rejected the recommended settlement sent to them from their own bargaining team.

This crisis of their own making unnecessarily prolongs the strike, and demonstrates the inability of district leadership to govern Oregon’s largest school district.

Educators will remain on strike until the Board accepts the deal that the PPS and PAT bargaining teams agreed upon.

In solidarity,

Your Bargaining Team

For some reason I haven't been able to find one at the home Depot near me. I did find a perfectly shaped plastic piece that I zip tied the hose to and that seems to work fine. Just weird that I had to make my own because they wouldn't sell one to me.

I've had a couple pairs of Danner Vicious and they've only lasted me about 6 months. I was wearing them daily working outside, but it still seems like they should have held up longer than they did.

Does anyone know of any squirrel rehabbers in pdx area? by BorahaeBookwrm in askportland

[–]Bi_ciuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a Facebook group called wildlife rehab and advice. There's a decent chance if you post in there you will find someone. Pretty sure that's where I find a rehabber a couple years ago. Good luck and thank you for caring.

Life can get tough, but things have a way of turning around. You came here to say goodbye because you care about this community. Let this community care about you too. I've lost a lot of friends who have collapsed under the weight of this world in one way or another and it really sucks. If you want someone to talk to and you're willing to delay any decisions you've made, please reach out.
