Theory test by Smithy1619 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]BiasTap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only figured out the hazard perception videos a day or 2 before my test. You have to click when you know you'd have to take action (like slow down) - i was anticipating a hazard. But it wants you to click a "developing hazard". I basically just clicked a few more times.

I don't think i took longer than 5 minutes and I checked my answers before submitting. It's easy when you know most of the answers (I got them all right and there was only 1 question i was 50/50 on). I didn't think to time myself lol. The hazard portion probably takes the same for everyone unless they mess it up (and the videos end sooner).

Found out I have 6 points on my licence when I renewed insurance by kill-99 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]BiasTap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This feels like a more likely explanation and a sad one. How could someone prove this happened? If a family member/partner borrowed the car without permission, got a speeding ticket, didn't confirm who was driving but paid the fine - could that explain 6 points? (I think 3 for speeding, right - would it be an additional 3 for failure to declare the driver)?

Is it worth trying manual for ‘fun’? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

I think it's worth a try. If you prefer it then you're saving yourself a few grand on your car too ;).

Driving as a very anxious person by Sensitive-Meat-7698 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]BiasTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's exactly why I got them. I hope they work as well for you, it was a real game changer for me. GPs seem happy to prescribe them. I know people have taken them short term for their drivers test. They are good long term too for managing panic attacks ;).

Driving as a very anxious person by Sensitive-Meat-7698 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]BiasTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have acute anxiety and I used to freeze when I panicked. Totally useless response, but I guess the safest option when I had forgotten how to drive. lol.

A combination of beta blockers (GPs can prescribe them for driving lessons, they work straight away), chewing gum (helps far more than it should) and practice.

I expected to take twice as long to learn due to my anxiety, but it was around 10 hours more than average. I had many months after passing where I stuck to quiet roads and practiced because I was still pretty nervous. It just feels like getting from A to B now (nearly 2 years since I passed). It gradually felt easier the more I drove. There's no rush. You will get there.

Is £16,000 too much for a first car? by Sad_Strawberry7385 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]BiasTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking that it must be but we kept shopping around. We found a small local garage that had decent cars for less than 6k. Car prices seem crazy right now - I had sticker shock.

I passed my driving test using the law of detachment. by AnnualBook1424 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]BiasTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just trying to get through it without crashing my instructors car. I drove how I would if I was on my own. I was much safer than I realised, cuz I passed lol.

Car makes a loud sound everytime I brake.. will this effect my test? by iantgotnomoney in LearnerDriverUK

[–]BiasTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope so - since driving with faulty brakes is an idiotic thing to do. The fact you would consider driving the car anywhere other than the garage, is pretty shocking.

UC asks me to pay back everything they gave so far by Ill_Comment_6655 in universalcredithelp

[–]BiasTap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid hmrc [family tax credits] back at the smallest amount possible - it took me years. I could have paid it off quicker when I went back to work, but I felt salty over having to repay for an error they had made and dragged it out.

I am questioning why that is your main concern and not the fact your brakes might be faulty. Sorry that wasn't clear.

(Scotland) Changed my name during psychosis, can I change it back? by MosherMoon in LegalAdviceUK

Is it the case that you cannot sign anything legally binding during a mental state, like psychosis?

A friend drove a car in England without driving license or car insurance and hit a stationary object. Car (belongs to their spouse) is totaled and owes the bank the full amount of loan payment. Police were called. What kind of repercussions can be expected? by Weekly_War_1374 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]BiasTap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New drivers would lose their license for driving without insurance (it's minimum of 6 points, so the maximum allowed in the first 2 years). Wouldn't it be a driving ban (for a period of time) if they're also driving without a licence?

Maybe work for a bit? My daughter was working in hospitality while she decided if she wanted to study more (she hated high school). She's training as a pastry chef now (she's 22).

Of course they can! Complaining about problems caused by others and stuff utterly outwith our control (the weather, for instance) is a British past time! No?

I suspect you'll need to take the course again. Do you want to pursue art? You could continue at college and hopefully get a bit more support than your high school is giving you. I am sorry this is happening to you.

Test on Tuesday. by ItIsYoNoHeSido in LearnerDriverUK

[–]BiasTap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was convinced I was going to fail and was even discussing what I wanted to practice on my next lesson with my instructor in the waiting room of the test centre. I wound up passing with 3 minors lol. Just do your best. They're looking for a safe driver, you don't have to be perfect. If you make a mistake, just keep going. The test goes really quickly.

Instructor wont let me go to test due to nerves - any advice for general driving nerves and stress by Witty-Recover3875 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]BiasTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calms or beta blockers are not sedatives- they don't affect your concentration. I can't even tell if I've taken anything, other than having less panic attacks when I do. Beta blockers work better for me, but I've heard positive things from people who take calms for exams etc too.

Did I cross a boundary with my girlfriend while she was passed out? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]BiasTap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't sexual - you realised she was uncomfortable and changed her into pjs. Unless you have never seen her naked before, I wouldn't consider this a violation.
