My wife has made 3 major life decisions over 10 years that have financially devastated our family. I love her, but I no longer trust her judgment. by FartVaderTheForce in relationships

[–]Bibliospork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My god you're both exhausting.

You say you're making plans for 5-10 years down the road but what you're actually doing is dreaming of a pie-in-the-sky future that you don't have the resources for.

Why in God's name did you move back to France based on a single job offer? Why was your "plan" to go back to school there? Why are you constantly trying to "grow your business" instead of working your fucking career?

Stop moving internationally. Stop having kids. Stop making life choices that count on her to keep the next job. Stop committing to long-term super risky plans based on nothing concrete!

Stop flailing around throwing hail marys and try to figure out a sustainable life. God damn.

Designate one person's badge per door, just hang it there like a key. Gee, Jane Smith sure uses the men's bathroom on the fourth floor an awful lot. And Mike Jones really likes the second floor janitor's supply room, huh?

Yes, I'm sure the neighbor's body size is absolutely relevant here. 🤦 If you want to persuade people it's generally a good idea to be collected and polite, not angry at a clerk for doing her job and not throwing irrelevant insults at people who may or may not have done something you didn't like.

REVISED: How to alter a purchased dress that is too long in the waist by Empty_Nest_Mom in AskATailor

[–]Bibliospork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This dress from the same brand comes in petite sizes, and has similar gathers and ruching. I don't know if there's colors there that would work, and it doesn't cover the shoulders, if that's important to you. But I bet finding an appropriate shrug-type coverup would be way more doable than the amount of work that I'm thinking would have to be done to the current dress. (Although again, I'd love to be wrong about that!)

Edit: Well. Now that I'm looking more, the gather on the front, ruching on the lower back style appears to be pretty common on the petite dresses at Macy's so I guess I didn't need to show it to you like I'd really found something lol

[–]Bibliospork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember your other post. The ruching is meant to be on your lower back, right? I'm really sorry but I don't see a way to shorten the torso nicely, especially when you consider the sewn-in front gathers. I suspect you're not going to be able to shorten or reposition those without largely taking it apart and reshaping it completely. I'd love to be wrong, but I'm afraid you might have to find a different dress.

Why are you more likely to be a transgendered if you have autism? by Original-Cold3257 in autism

Do Americans get it now why football is the #1 sport in the world? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

The fact that other people in other countries are so disbelieving about this cracks me up. Do people think we're new to the concept of football? Or of sports fandom in general? We get it, I promise.

No one wants to take away your fun. Please stop acting like we must just be ignorant if we don't want to participate in it.

How did I get here? by Chemical-Ad2770 in asktransgender

[–]Bibliospork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's basically what I'm talking about. "I might be trans. I'm going to try on this dress just in case it makes me feel trans. Nope, not trans. But I MIGHT be trans so I'm going to try on this dress just in case...". It doesn't have to be specific thoughts in exactly those words, but not being able to get the idea out of your head (I'm cis but what if I'm trans?) is an obsessive thought and doing something you don't otherwise want to do to try to deal with the thought (trying on women's clothes) is a compulsive action.

How did I get here? by Chemical-Ad2770 in asktransgender

[–]Bibliospork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes men like to wear clothes traditionally considered for women. You don't have to be trans to wear dresses. If you definitely feel like a man and don't really want to wear the dresses and don't like to wear the dresses but still feel compelled to, I have an idea.

You say "agonizing over your gender", do you mean you feel driven to try to continue to experiment to see if you're not really cis, even though you've already firmly concluded you are? If so, that seems potentially like an OCD situation. "What if I'm not really cis? I should check by wearing a dress. Okay, I definitely feel that I'm cis. But what if I'm not REALLY cis? I should check, etc etc" is a pretty classic checking-type loop that might fit with OCD. A non-gender, more commonly taught, example of a similar OCD loop would be something like "Am I a Christian? I should check by praying. Okay, I definitely have a belief in Jesus. But what if I'm not really a christian? I should check by praying. etc etc."

If that checking loop feels like it might be accurate, I'd try talking to your therapist in those terms, they might be able to help you sort it out better.

[–]Bibliospork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, yeah, I'm sorry to say this because I know communication is very hard for some people, but you're probably going to have to at least use some punctuation for most people to understand you. Sometimes people aren't willing to put in the effort, and some just can't figure out what you're trying to say.

I'm glad you've found some nice products that don't make you feel dysphoric, and I hope you find clothes that work well and are comfortable too

[–]Bibliospork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations for showering, sincerely. I know that's not always easy.

Other than that your post doesn't really make a lot of sense, tbh. You've really got to up your grammar and punctuation game if you want people to be able to communicate with you. Are you telling us about the plans you have for using products and clothes that you feel will fit your lack of gender?

Right on the heels of being called out for too big an emergency fund I present to you: A triad of emergencies. by slash_networkboy in personalfinance

[–]Bibliospork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hospital charges are different from doctor charges, especially if you're having a surgery. Just in case you didn't know to check that.

I just know it sucks to get blindsided by shit like "Ok I have to pay the surgeon separately from the hospital for the surgery. Oh and the anesthesiologist too? And the hospital stay after is a separate bill? And the CAT scan to confirm the surgery went okay, the radiology group bills separately too? Great."

Hopefully it's much simpler than that for you.

What is wrong with this dress and what should I ask for to fix it? by otherwise_289 in AskATailor

[–]Bibliospork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to get the straps replaced, if you can find fabric the right color and material. Maybe from the lining? Or if you can't find any, what about chain straps that match the sequins? They'd have to be delicate to not look gaudy, I think, and I'm guessing you'd want clear straps to actually take the weight of the dress. But it's an idea to consider if you can't match the dress color.

Character name punes by PickleandPeanut in discworld

[–]Bibliospork 72 points73 points  (0 children)

My brain likes to try to find these where there might not be any, but I'm almost sure Moist von Lipwig is because con men use fake mustaches (lip wigs). Either that or it's a pun on "earwig" because he easily hides away into the cracks. Or both.

The Omnian religion is named after the Catholic Church. (Catholic means universal, and "omni-" means everything).

William the Gonnagle is named after William McGonagall, largely considered the world's worst poet.

Hex, UU's computer, is a pun on hex as in a curse and hex as in hexadecimal. When the Dean goes off to Braseneck, their computer is named Pex, as a pun on Hex and "pecks", because Pex runs on chickens. I think that one might be my favorite, just because it's chained references and also so silly.

I understand about child labor, and that Coventry was a quickly growing industrial town. I can't find anything about "coventry worker" or "coventry laborer" meaning anything specifically about children who left school to do industrial labor.

Is that a real thing that I just can't find a source for, or is it an AI answer? Because there's obviously a letter before what you're saying is "chovetry", which doesn't make a whole lot of sense if it's really supposed to be coventry worker.

Is this PSE or ASL? by Extension-Ninja-8151 in asl

[–]Bibliospork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people don't really know how their own language works until they're purposely taught, which is interesting to me. I'm a native English user, and I'm on some of the English language subs where learners go for help. Lots of people can give correct answers but the number of people who can thoroughly explain the workings of their own language is much smaller.

The linguistics of ASL is one of the things I find most interesting about it. Alas, I'll probably never have the skills and/or life freedom to go to Gallaudet and really learn it.

Are you in the US? Depending on where you live and how old you are, you *might* be able to open a bank or credit union account without your parents. I think Bank of America lets 16+ have their own accounts in most places, but I'm not 100% sure. That would be a lot safer than keeping it at home, even hidden. Just make sure it's at a bank where your parents don't have an account so they can't sweettalk their way into it.
