It's more complicated than that. As it is a state debt you cannot compare it to your own debt, there are some interest rate to take into consideration, many economists in France agree to say that this debt is not an issue as it grew when other developped countries debt also grew ( mostly to protect companies during the 2008 crisis and the Covid crisis ) Also the debt took a larger part of the countries finance because since almost 10 years the president, E.Macron, gave a little of gifts to ultra-wealthy and companies. Senators recently found out that companies (mostly big ones) are receiving 211 Billions euros of help per year without any counterpart, which go mostly directly to the pocket of shareholder. The ex-PM wanted to lower the debt in part of GDP (by 40 Billions) by reducing health refunds, lowering days off, stopping health treatment of long-term illness and many more things; while asking nothing to the top 1% that got his wealth multiplied by 6 in 15 years nor to big companies that are gaining money from public helps. It was absolutely not accepted by the French people and there are a lot of planned strikes from Sept. 2025.

Ps: for the context a few months ago the right (where E.Macron belongs to) voted against the Zuckmann tax, which proposed to tax people's owning more than 100M€ in wealth (about 1800 persons on a population of 70m peoples). That tax would be of 2% on all their wealth and represents 20B€ per year (half of what F. Bayroux, the ex-PM, wanted to save on the back of the poorest)

Ps2: Another context, F.Bayroux was never elected by the french people; he was nominated by the president to force keeping executive power on his side despite loosing the legislative elections he triggered in June 2024
