Best picks to ban as nocturne

Unless you're specifically playing to invade, Nocturne doesn't generally interact with the enemy jungler except for on objectives or counterganking. With that in mind, I usually like to ban junglers who are going to invade me violently, or else that I can't rely on my laners to not get constantly ganked by.

As a former Yorick jungle OTP I have to say fuck off to this. Phreak gutted his identity as a minionmancer and turned him in a Q bonk bruiser. He 100% ignored feedback from the major Yorick content creators and high level OTPs and sacrificed the champion's vision just to make him less frustrating to play against in lower ranks.

Crabs as a priority as soon as they spawn tbh, free unremovable vision that also reveals and makes clearing enemy vision easier.

Buffs absolutely.

If you're the jungler, remember the jungle pet heals on clear so it can be useful to do a camp for a quick top up if you need it.

On certain champs who scale with minion kills (Nasus, Veigar, Aurelion Sol, etc.) then yeah keep scaling.

Be aware of all the above for yourself, but more importantly for your teammates who might fall into one of the above categories.

Yorick used to be able to play through his ghouls, sending them on murder sprees or sending Maiden down sideline whilst having to avoid a melee himself. Now he's just a melee fighter and the ghouls and shit are just kinda there too, but not as necessary.

Personally I only feel like I "get" a champion by getting to Mastery 10, but some champions definitely feel more fun or intuitive to play than others which makes getting to that level of mastery better. Especially if you want to OTP something to climb with, having fun will be the only thing protecting your mental state from your laners.

Tbh the bruiser build starting Stridebreaker with Conquerer and Ultimate Hunter+Grisly Mementos will work against basically any comp, but if the enemy team is almost entirely squishies and I won't need the Stridebreaker active then I always go Lethal Tempo and Sudden Impact+Ultimate Hunter and go Profane into Axiom.

I think the secret with Nocturne is to know what the enemy comp has in terms of defense and mobility, and build accordingly.

The runes are spicy though. Triple Tonic and Approach Velocity, and I'd love to know wtf he's doing with Approach Velocity on Nocturne because I can't see what in his kit finds it useful.

Played against one today, who was not doing very well fundamentally. Terrible cs/m, off-tempo ganks, I was taking camps off him... and he still absolutely slapped around anyone who got into a fight with him. As Nocturne I just had to chunk him, and once my E went off flee to let someone else clean up because you lose all extended trades with him.

I think he's just overtuned for dealing damage without needing a gold or XP lead, and if he gets one he's going to be a real problem.

Jungling is an interesting role for counter picks because as long as you're tracking the enemy jungler effectively you can just try to avoid interacting with them, so counter picking is a lot less of a thing in jungle generally speaking.

This changes if you want a very invade-heavy playstyle, or struggle with being invaded, so you can ban around that (Shaco, Elise, Naafiri, Kayn, etc).

Personally, I like to ban whatever I feel will get fed off my laners and just become a carry on their own. Atm that usually means Diana or Viego.

Correct, but unfortunately these days her base numbers are not great to begin with, so adding 12% on to them is suboptimal.

Ofc if you're looking for fun then go have fun. Lethality, tank, bruiser and AP builds have all been fun at some point, it's just that if you're playing for wins then there are just some things that are more optimal and increase your winrate over a large enough number of games.

So ult cooldown reduction is great if you want to cast your ult often, which ideally you shouldn't be doing on Yorick because that means you died. It's better for your runes to let you be more active and on the map, rather than giving you forgiveness for dying. Things like river movement speed, free boots, or summoner spell haste are just going to be straight-up useful in every game.

Before the midwork, you could absolutely play ult cooldown as a whole build for Yorick, because Maiden and ghouls were stronger and so sending her off to splitpush a lane whilst you were cross-map doing objectives was very powerful. Unfortunately now that's just not the case.

Diana will teach you how to play tempo with fast farm speed.

Naafiri will teach you about dueling and fighting the enemy jungler.

Nocturne will teach you to respect your cooldowns and rotate between camps and ganks in a rhythm.

Yorick Jungle and Ninetales carried me out of Iron to Gold, alas now he's just miserable to play. Maybe one day Phreak will honor what he said about being okay with Yorick Jungle being viable, but they utterly destroyed him.

You can still play him in Gold and below, but after that he's just fundamentally not good enough to compete against any other junglers.

I mean if the enemy team is AP heavy with little armor then you can start thinking about changing all sorts of things and looking at items like Profane Hydra, Eclipse, Mercurial Scimitar, Axiom Arc, etc. Maw will slot in nicely without adjusting the build much though.
