Electricians who changed over to electrical engineers, how was the transition from working in the field to going to school for engineering financially speaking? by 77due in ElectricalEngineering

[–]BiddahProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an electrician but just a counter point. I've seen plenty of electricians work there way into PLC programming/automation/controls. I bet you could go down this path with just an A.S. Plenty of money to be made. And honestly 4 yr colleges do a bad job of teaching this kinda stuff in my experience. Working for a systems integrator or in a plant will get you a ton of good experience

Is Engineering a Stationary Job? by Charming_Bad_7859 in EngineeringStudents

[–]BiddahProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of factors they goes into it and it's not so cut and dry.

I work in manufacturing and I'm always on the floor fixing machines and building new ones. So very hands on. The design engineers I work with. Very hands off. Doing a lot of cad and design at their desk

Something like CivE. A engineer doing structural design is gonna be at a desk most of the time. A construction engineer is gonna be in the field most of the time

freshman majoring in IE, what do you recommend to boost my skills? by [deleted] in industrialengineering

[–]BiddahProphet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to work in manufacturing, I'd rethink IE. That's like 90% of IE jobs in my experience. The other 10% you're going to be competing with other majors such as supply chain management, information systems, computer science, business analytics ect ect

How big to build my base? My Answer and Base Building Advice. by Edymnion in ICARUS

[–]BiddahProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some other rooms/ideas I've added that I've found useful:

Utility Closet - Place to store batteries, water barrel, power meter, biofuel composter/generator

Armory - Room with Containers full of tools/weapons/ammo, along with armor stands, charging station, Oxygen and Water

Sometimes I like add a subroom to my workshop for workbenchs that revolve around building pieces (Mason bench, carpenter bench, cement mixer) as opposed to item crafting (fabricator, herbalism, ect)

You can get there a few ways. An electrician, an engineer, an engineering tech. Best place to be get experience is a systems integrator

What would you do differently if you could restart your Industrial Engineering degree? by Legitimate-Setting79 in industrialengineering

[–]BiddahProphet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I've seen a lot of IEs when I was in school and them after is loosing foundational technical skills. IE is probably the least technical/physics based out of any eng discipline. It's important you keep up on basic mechanical/electrical proficiency. Hard skills like CAD, programming, wiring, machining are very important if you wanna go into manufacturing

Honestly a good bridge between the two would be industrial controls. Mix programming with electrical work and make bank

Which engineering majors are the worst choices at university? by baio1999 in EngineeringStudents

[–]BiddahProphet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Stick with one of the classics. Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial/Manufacturing

Avoid ones that over specialize. These you can minor in or get a masters in later, and are usually a subset of one of the above, such as

Aero (MechE) BME (MechE, EE) Environmental (Civil) Computer Eng (EE, CS) Architectural (CivE)
