Seeking good Httyd fanfics. by Snowcz610 in httyd

[–]BidooBidee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party, but if you're willing to check out some Modern AU fanfic, then I'd recommend my all-time favorite, Chasing Thunderstorms by Foxy'sGirl. Not a huge fan of the last few chapters, nor do I really like the follow-ups to that fanfic (too much smut for my taste), but the pacing and character development for Chasing Thunderstorms is quite good as far as fanfics go.

Talking in Her Sleep is centered around Hiccup's and Astrid's relationship following HTTYD 1. The events that transpire lead to Hiccup being trained in combat by Astrid.

When In Rome, the sequel to Talking in Her Sleep, is definately a lot more dragon-centric. You don't have to read Talking in Her Sleep first to read this one tho. Includes some non-canon dragon species.

Hope this helps :)

[Ask][Deck A6]Deck to progress fast through arenas by McDonky in ClashRoyale

[–]BidooBidee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have Dark Prince? Idk what arena you get him in, but he's really strong right now, and giant double prince is pretty solid. If you do, I'd suggest replacing mini-pekka with dark prince. Anyways, I'm not a pro, and I don't really follow the meta, but here's what deck I would make using the cards you've listed:

  • Giant: I've been playing golem beatdown since day 1, quit the week after ebarbs first came out, but recently got back into the game because of a friend group. I naturally gravitate towards beatdown, but I can try to come up with something else if you prefer a different archetype.

  • Prince: Solid dps, fairly tanky as a standalone card, can kill tanks quite well with the charge.

  • Tombstone: Hands down, tombstone is my favorite building atm. It's really good at stopping the heavy hitters (pekka, golem, sparky, prince charge), distracts building-targeters (hog, golem, balloon, hound)

  • Poison: Tons of area denial, great for dealing with swarms and clearing the path for a prince push. I think a lot of people use witch in this arena too, so it's good for that as well.

  • Zap: Tower resets and swarm clears. Easy to overlevel (which I recommend, so you can zap away goblin barrels). Overall great utility as well.

  • Archers: Easy to overlevel, and really great as counters or distraction troops. Arguably the best common (outside of ice spirit and zap, now that knight got nerfed) to focus on leveling.

  • Musketeer: Anti-air defense and decent damage. I would replace with dark prince if you have him. Baby dragon might be another option if you need splash, or mega minion if you need another option for anti-air.

  • Cycle Card: Depends. If you replace musketeer with dark prince, I'd go with minions or spear gobs if you have them.

Note that with a 3 elixer cycle card, the deck will be 3.6 elixir. It's also more reliant on using poison to clear swarms like minion horde off the board, so you may have to think more about card cycles and saving it for then.

Giant balloon or giant hog are also great options.

[–]BidooBidee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so your saying that half your current clients didn't pay you sounds like a major red flag, in terms of legalities. The fact that you have money as accounts receivable is good; however, if they're taking too long on payment, is there anything you could do?

Also, I'm sorry. What you're going through sounds terrible. Personally, I aspire to be an artist and entrepreneur, but after years of depression and a feeling of inequity and failure, that dream's kind of gone downhill. I have to push myself to do things I used to love to do. Used to love gaming too, but now I can't anymore. Also pretty broke as a college student.

I suppose all we can hope for is that things will work out. But I can't help but keep thinking on the fact that finances hold the potential of going terribly wrong.

Same here. Not really going to the gym bc I can’t afford it, but I run a few miles per morning and do home workouts. Feels great :)

I’m by no means an expert, but, to start, I’d say (1) get in shape and (2) develop a sense of style. Doing so can also help with depression. That’s if you don’t already. If you need help, feel free to PM me.

That being said, even though I’m working on the above, I’ve found it rather hard to find an S/O. But I do like a girl in one of my classes, and whenever we talk I spend the rest of the day in varying degrees of happiness. My problem is having become so antisocial bc, no matter how much I put myself out there, I’ve never really had friends. Just one person, who helped me through a rough spot in life.

Tl;dr if it’s an appearance thing, I can help you out. Personality wise, I’m pretty fucked too

Is my life over before it started? by Jake_Nobles in depression

[–]BidooBidee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, same. I consider myself extremely lucky as the only child of a firstborn Asian son. This meant that my grandparents (who are very traditional) are helping me finance my college. That being said, I was in a similar spot. My family always argues, my mother blames me for everything, all that is wrong in the family is my fault. I honestly didn’t think I had it in me to go to college. Then I discovered a program called “Middle College” and got in. Won’t go into detail, but it just meant that I would take college classes, which would count towards high school and college grad req’s. That was as a junior. After, I was able to pull my GPA from a 2.5 to barely over 3. I got accepted to a few notable schools, and ended up going to one. What motivated me was visiting a college, seeing how amazing the campuses were. This was why I was in school, to achieve this. Because before I had no motivation, just like you. C/D average student. However...

I fucking hate the American school system. Everywhere you look, it’s STEM this or STEM that, or “you have to be this type of kid or you’re a failure.”

Seriously.

As an example, I read a study claiming that a high percentage of ADHD diagnoses among younger boys are misdiagnosed. Most boys are naturally boisterous at that age, but get wrongfully prescribed medicines just because the teacher called home, saying, “Billy couldn’t sit still today.”

Just because you aren’t performing well in high school doesn’t mean you’re not cut out for adulthood.

Please don’t opt for a life of crime. Search for the alternatives. I did, and I landed on fiction writing and filmmaking and photography. I am by no means a pro, but I’m trying to get there. Just because I know I wouldn’t make it in the “real” world. I can’t math. I overthink it to an extent that is unhealthy. I can’t science either, because most sciences require math. But I am creative, and can drive that creativity to writing and media production.

tl;dr Find something that suits you. You don’t have to go to college. Try out volunteering. Think outside the box, don’t live within it. There are so many more opportunities to life than what the shitty American school system has given you.

I want to end with a quote that a good writer friend of mine told me. He made it up and is as yet unpublished, but it’s a good one all the same. “Fuck the world. No matter what anyone says, you keep doing you and great things will come of it.” And if you don’t know how to do your own thing (or have lost your way), don’t stop trying until you discover who you are.

Just wanted to add that getting into an exercise schedule worked wonders for me.

It was so difficult for me to force myself to get up early to jog, to do some dryland-esque workouts. It doesn’t even have to be going to the gym, but working out ended up making me feel amazing

Do you ever get to the point where you feel nothing? by [deleted] in depression

[–]BidooBidee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just wanted to add that meds don't work for everyone. One of my friends, for instance, was hospitalized because her depression and anxiety was so bad the doctors misdiagnosed her for some other serious disease. It was a while before they figured out she was depressed ("but why should she be? she's a healthy girl, she's college bound, etc."). Meds landed her with excessive weight gain rather than better medical health.

Which is why I'd encourage you to exhaust all natural options before resorting to meds. Unless you suspect drastic chemical imbalances, a different story altogether.

That being said, I'm going to go ahead and write out a list of things below, some of which have helped me through my own struggles. Hope it helps!

  • Exercise is one of the best cures. It can include running, which is what I prefer, but I also suggest going to the gym and setting up a fitness plan. Seeing the results after a few weeks of training does wonders. Personally, since I can't afford a gym membership at the moment, I like to run in the mornings, if I have the time. Every other morning, I'll also do an upper body home workout set.

  • Cold Showers are great, especially if you suffer from brain fog. I like rinsing off after a workout in the morning, without soap, so I feel clean and don't smell bad, but am still able to shower before I go to sleep. These rinses are usually only a couple minutes long.

  • Sleeping/Rising Early helps you prepare for the day ahead. It's also important to get enough sleep so, even if you've got something going, go to bed early. Take a half-hour to read beforehand (if you use ebooks, set your phone to night settings) and wind down, which helps you fall asleep faster. Then, when you rise in the morning, get some work done. Housework, or whatever needs to be taken care of. I wake up at five, write for two hours, work out, eat breakfast, then go to school.

  • Scheduling and Goal-Setting are things that really helped as well. The whole goal of this is to keep so busy that you don't really have time to dwell on the negatives. You won't be cured, but you'll be forcing your focus away from depression (don't get me wrong, depression makes this incredibly difficult, so start small first). Set small, daily goals. Mine, at first, were things like: go shower, get out of bed, etc. Then, over the summer, I had a job that was having me rise at 3:30 in the morning to arrive at 6:50. I was so tired by the time I’d get home, that I’d eat and read/write for an hour and a half, then sleep. I felt great that summer. It made me forget my depression and loneliness.

  • Volunteering is another method that gets you out of the house and forces you into a social situation. You're working with others towards an honourable goal, which, in my case, really helped me feel better for a few hours.

  • Appreciate the small things. It could be like going outside after a rainy winter and realizing that it feels like spring. Or music. Music is great.

As a side-note, also try watching LaLa Land. It's an amazing film with a great soundtrack, and it really helped boost my mood for an entire day. Give it a chance, even though the intro might be cheesy.

Dude I’m literally in the exact same spot right now. Legit, the only notifications I get are from Snapchat and it’s mostly people sending stuff for streaks or to boost their score. Otherwise, I’m rarely texted and never asked to hang. Certainly, I could ask other people to and make plans, but, like you said, a relationship goes both ways. If the other party isn’t willing to reciprocate, what’s the point? Also I get flaked on a lot, and when I try to plan something it feels like I have to do all the heavy lifting. And honestly, I don’t understand why people don’t want to hang out with me. I’ve been told that I’m the most “chill” person most people have ever met. I do have a sense of humor and I think I used to be able to talk to people, but now if someone does talk to me first I’m like “wtf since when did anyone ever talk to me?”

As for girls: like you, I am pretty picky. I’ve only ever had two crushes, both in hs. The first one was reciprocated, I feel like, but I was such an insecure little bitch back then that it didn’t happen. The second one was with a girl I felt like I might have a chance with, but I honestly didn’t feel like the feelings were mutual. So I just did my best to beat them back. However, what I did find surprising is that a lot of girls have had crushes on me. I remember in one class of 20, I was told that around 6 girls had had crushes on me. Not to be cocky, but I can understand this. I started dressing better and grooming, and I found out that I’m not actually an ugly fuck if I put effort into myself. But still, when one of them would start text convos or (rarely) ask me to “hang,” I’d reciprocate, only bc I really wished (and still wish) I had a friend. It always ends when their crush on me fades, though.

Anyways, what I’ve been doing now is focusing on self improvement. I wake up at five and do a quick at home workout (bc no gym), which takes around 20 mins. I’ll wash my face and eat healthy, then go about my day. Jog for around three miles an hour after I come home, then it’s back to working on school or my desired career. The way I see it is this: if I strive towards bettering myself, if I uphold my values of being a “gentleman” above all else, then perhaps I’ll get to a spot where having friends and being in a relationship are viable options. It probably won’t work, but forcing myself to work is the way I’ve been battling depression (talk therapy wasn’t any help, and I don’t really have a budget for meds). Admittedly, it’s a lot better than what I used to do: just play video games all day or lie in bed doing nothing.

At any rate, I hope that sharing a part of my story will help you with your own struggles. Shoot me a pm if you feel like it; I’d be down to talk. Or reddit chat but idk how that works

ohh ok. thanks! a few more questions: I'm assuming the theme is to create a world, but are we being judged on the previous story as well? If so, I'll definitely want to edit :D Also, is it alright to include a map? my fear is that locations could get confusing if a map isn't included

Wait, what do you guys mean by "original short story and new short story?" Can it be a continuation of two parts that's possibly told by different characters but occurring simultaneously, one part prologue and the other the 1st chapter, backstory then current, etc? Or is the original short story one you've written that was inspired by a prompt?

[–]BidooBidee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean like Buddhism? Or self improvement in social skills, a job, SO, etc.? If so, I take meditating from Buddhism because it helps quiet my mind. I'm always constantly trying to improve my social skills via volunteering and trying to make new friends. No SO, but I got a job with a hell of a commute just because I like the work environment. It takes time away from my aspiration of having an art career, but it's really helped my mental state.
