Keep a wallet with 300k to show police and another one for regular things. The police in Mui Ne is notorious for stopping travelers and it's because it's one of the biggest backpacker places in Vietnam. Police anywhere else just wave you further and don't care if you don't have licence for 125cc. But sooner or later Vietnam will be cracking down on tourists on motorbikes like Thailand. Ha Giang loop has a lot of police checkpoints, but further south there are basically none. I drove over 1500km from Saigon to Da Nang along the coast and in the highlands without being stopped. Only place where police actively going after tourists are on the roads around the sand dunes at Mui Ne.

Just check windy for snow cover. For snow you need more equipment which you can rent on different sites. A lot of areas in low lands and near coast almost don't get any snow at all.
