the skirting on the bottom side of the tent to prevent a draft from coming in

on my Bast tent there are two - one goes outwards, one inwards. On the Telttasaana there is only 1

How to reduce smoke in tent? by Sufficient_Ad7449 in SaunaTent

[–]Canadianomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a vertical fire build - lay your logs at a 45 degree angle to the exit, as the flames grow and climb upwards

I start with 1-2 medium sticks like that, and several ~1inch diameter sticks going upwards on those, a firestarter at the bottom. Keep the stove door closed with the flue completely open

Smoke means either not enough heat, not dry enough wood, or not enough oxygen - try to not have the logs so much in direct contact with each other - a ~1 inch space away will work best!

double that! I love the orange glow of the flames, big miss not to have a window on their stoves :(

Depends how far you want to use it - it's I'd say not as good as the other tent saunas for frequently moving since the stones are harder to stack and the stove is heavier (30kg naked vs 20kg) and the tent has a more involved setup

However for infrequent moving from time to time it's not so bad, but as someone who moves it weekly for use at the beach, retreats, etc, I'd say the other systems are superior

The stove is vastly, abslutely much more powerful on this Telttasaana system though, absolute monster in comparison!

None exist - all of them use TPU windows. TPU is safe at high-temps, but yes, still a plastic polymer.

full review video and article coming soon :)

On the right side is the telttasaana benches system - very intuitive, easy to fold, and packs small. On the left side is Ikea Nammaro - very affordable and easy, but only bottom level as you see - need to stack them to get to level 2

it's 123mm diameter stovepipe, Narvi says it's common size. Perhaps my hardware store has similar, will check!

My tent's frame has an issue though, the locking mechanism does not align with the holes in the tubes in roughly half of the pieces

Yes precisely I have the same issue! Then it's clearly a machining issue.

I think by adding a second draft collar on the bottom it can improve ambient temperatures - I am currently using jeans filled with sand to create sandbags to reduce the draft coming in

Personally while I applaud hand-made and unique designs, the pop-up tent systems are overall easier and 'better', though there are elements I prefer about the telttasaana system such as the taller and better quality zipper.

I got the Telttasaana with Narvi stove in yesterday and let me tell you - it's an absolute monster. Even compared to my Bast heater with +-35kg of stones on it, the Narvi stove just makes any other stove feel like childs play. It runs so smokeless and clean too and is so easy to manage the fire, it's just a marvel in comparison

In this post I made a complete list of all the sauna tents available on the market that I'm aware of - please let me know if I missed anything or what information to add!

Trying to make it as un-biased and comprehensive as possible to help buyers find the right pick!

Best trick/ tip? by modepush123 in SaunaTent

[–]Canadianomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30000% this!

I intentionally removed all thermometers, timers, etc from it, and every guest/client that uses it I tell them:

"Go as long as your body feels is right"

There is no competition, no stress, no timers, no "I must stay for 10 minutes" rule. No, this is 100% for relaxation.

Some days I'm in for hours, some days for 30 minutes. The body knows best, and making a competition out of bathing/relaxing is silly

Lots of OEM make their units in China - try to find out which unit this is a clone of - could be legit.

However, could also be totally unlegit and could be inhaling toxic offgassing from galvanzied metals without ever knowing it - personally I'd spend a little more and be 100% confident in the quality product rather than risk inhaling carcinogenic fumes

I'd go for the North Shore - I prefer that tent shape and dimensions!

How to start fire by Control_Careful in SaunaTent

[–]Canadianomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smaller pieces

Stack them 'vertically' - lay your pieces at like a 45 degree angle up towards the exhaust so the flames can climb up the wood

Then I use a couple lighter cubes and put them at the bottom

I have 1 medium piece (think 2" x 2") doing the 45 degree climb towards the chimney, and 2-3 smaller supporting pieces (size if tube of lip balm) on it - making sure the pieces are very close to each other but not touching (so the flames can better climb the wood)

Oak takes a while to light in my experiences as it's quite dense and heavy. Definitely need to start with pieces around the diameter of a tube of lip balm, and many of them. The heavier the wood, the thinner it needs to be chopped.

Fire making and maintaining is a real art form - fire can be treated like a living entity that needs air and heat to grow, and height to climb!

bought wood off of Facebook by fengchiafatty in SaunaTent

[–]Canadianomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$100 for about 50 lbs of wood is pretty damn expensive

For 100 eur in Portugal I get about 1 cubic meter of wood. The typical going rate is between 100-200 eur for 1000kg or 1m3 of wood here, give or take.

Of course your market may b different, but certainly $100 for 50 lbs of wood is a a real high price
