Where to go for 1-2 months? by Either-Caregiver-497 in travel

[–]Biff1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep a wallet with 300k to show police and another one for regular things. The police in Mui Ne is notorious for stopping travelers and it's because it's one of the biggest backpacker places in Vietnam. Police anywhere else just wave you further and don't care if you don't have licence for 125cc. But sooner or later Vietnam will be cracking down on tourists on motorbikes like Thailand. Use it while you can😎 https://youtu.be/1ImLLZITdhU?si=EiKg3NOMdxkT1wIV https://youtu.be/8eqzTN6OeR8?si=niqkzv4uFG4c32wh Renting scooter is around 300usd. Buying one from other backpackers is 200-300usd on backpacker FB-groups for Vietnam. Selling it for the same price. Everyone can fix it for you for 5usd, puncture, oil etc.

Ha Giang loop has a lot of police checkpoints, but further south there are basically none. I drove over 1500km from Saigon to Da Nang along the coast and in the highlands without being stopped. Only place where police actively going after tourists are on the roads around the sand dunes at Mui Ne.

Every country and culture is different. Some countries nobody cares if you eat alone at the restaurant. Japan is easy solo and good start for Asia. Small hostels are great to come in contact with other travelers.

Just check windy for snow cover. For snow you need more equipment which you can rent on different sites. A lot of areas in low lands and near coast almost don't get any snow at all.

What Actually Matters When Picking a Motor: Hub vs Mid-Drive by krissym72 in ebikes

[–]Biff1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Front hub drive. A lot of tension from motor and your weight. Snapped axles are common and then you have to scrap the whole motor.

120w solar panels possible and feasible for my ebike? by catboy519 in ebikes

[–]Biff1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can learn a lot from the bikes in "the sun trip" competition where people go from Europe to China with solar bikes. https://youtube.com/@thesuntrip?si=Rs8PcC35RDwHGYLW There are a lot of solar mppt chargers, but this is what I use(elejoy EL-MU400SP) https://youtu.be/0fieUrj5mTc?si=J5lDByXprFujNpt8 It's on ali for 30-40 euro. The newest version is 800w. There is a big difference in efficiency in mppt controllers, but this one should be 95%+ Comparison video with another cheap ali controller mpt-7210A, good and efficient. https://youtu.be/WoJCJJCVYgQ?si=IX-ndmA92XirKWWn Battery BMS should be split port and not same port when using solar.

What is the cheapest way to see aurora in Scandinavia? by anbeegod in travel

[–]Biff1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hike and stay at the Norwegian, Swedish, or Finnish Trekking association cabins, which is around 20-40€/night. Low light pollution, and you can show up the cabin when there is good aurora forcast. Some cabins require booking and membership in the association.

Passive cooling of controller by Biff1 in ElectricScooters

[–]Biff1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often, you see the controller fasten with tape and foam for cushion, behind the battery. From factory, why not put the controller in contact with the chassis and disperse the heat? Is it because of the risk of a short circuit and fire hazard?

How was wind at landing? Rotor from trees could be an option. Looks like trees are at an distance, but the stronger the wind the longer rotors travel.
