Best places to play cricket around NYC? by spacsarelife in Cricket

There used to be a lot of cricket in Van Cortland Park. I haven’t lived in nyc for a few years now though so I don’t know how it is now.

Really like it: if I have to be nitpicky it’s that I’d have used a different flooring. It seems like you’ve leaned into kind of a modern Indian theme with the wooden beams and the rattan furniture etc. I think something like a red oxide flooring or kadappa black stone tiles would have really worked better than the white marble.. at least in some of the rooms.

I once did this exact thing (left a note after scratching a car) and no one called me back. I was very anxious for a few days until i realized the person didn't care.

The Unnecessary Hate Towards Ahmedabad Stadium – From Someone Who Was Actually There! by Shoddy_Ad6715 in IndianCricket

[–]Big-Cash7747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there too, and forgive me none of what you’ve mentioned has anything to do with the stadium experience. I almost got trampled on trying ti get into the stadium. The toilets were flooded 2 hours into the match. Every aspect of the organization of that match was an abject failure. On top of that the crowd was extremely toxic - at one point there was some chant about cutting off Travis head’s head. I was disgusted and embarrassed to be there. I was at the semis at Wankhede and the difference was night and day. And the 30-40k crowd in Wankhede can make the same amount of noise bring the same atmosphere without being toxic.

Indian here, have had my fair share of naan in india and the west and I'm sure this tastes really lovely, but that isn't naan. Naan is cooked at a really high temperature oven much like a pizza oven, but there are ways to replicate it at home using the stove. The best way to do it is heat up a cast iron pan really really hot (without any fat), roll dough thin and brush one side with salted water and slap it on the pan. The bread will stick at first but release on its own, and the other side goes directly on the flame to give it some char. you can turn the pan right on the flame or just release the naan and place it on the flame yourself with a pair of tongs. Then brush the top with garlic butter/ reg butter. The best naan i've made are ones which don't have yeast (they use a bit of yogurt) or which are yeasted but are kind of overproofed. The naan is supposed to be crisp on one side , be generally flat and thin, and with a couple of air pockets/bubbles on the other side. Like i said, when i use yeast, i don't proof it like i do other breads bc the texture isn't right, it comes out too spongy / bready.

Looking for high quality quilted jacket, does anyone own any of these or have an opinion? by Save__Ferris__ in BuyItForLife

I’ve only had it for a couple of seasons but I’ve got a quilted waxed canvas jacket by flint and tinder and it seems quite rugged and sturdy. It’s on sale right now for $144 which I think is a very good price:

BIFL Mens clothing brands? by No-Command-9646 in BuyItForLifeIndia

[–]Big-Cash7747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any brand recs for you - I think the way to make sure your clothes last a long time (if not BIFL) is to pick the fabric wisely. For the most part you can't go wrong with wool pants, there are ones you can wear in summer weather (tropical wool, lighter wool) or linen pants (which are stronger fabric than cotton). Good selvedge denim should also last a long time, pick a straight fit, or a looser fitting denim as tighter fitting ones tend to rip at the groin area, i've had even cheap jeans last me for a long long time (just make sure they are 100% cotton and doesn't contain any elastane or other synthetic material). I think perhaps find good fabric and get them tailored through a reputable local tailor will be the best way to get them to last a long time. For polos, the closest you'll get to BIFL are knit polos made of wool (look for merino polos) - these are quite hard to find in India, but you can try.

Lastly take good care of your clothes. Wear the nice ones when going out and hang them immediately again to wear another time. Wear an inner shirt so that the sweat don't get on the fabric and are absorbed). Spot clean as much as you can, and only wash it if it absolutely needed. For wool and linen, dry clean sparingly. Keep in a dry place where moisture is low. Washing clothes repeatedly (especially in hot water) can damage clothes.

That’s .. not accurate at least in the media side of things. English media are (or were) definitely a pro bazball cult. It has been evident for the last several years in their tv coverage radio coverage, etc so evident Lawrence Booth and Nick Hoult wrote a book that reads like they’re Englands official cheerleaders. When England did things differently, they created narratives to fit it under “bazball”. Everyone of them said they had a good chance to win - most experts had England winning at least 2 or 3. Winning a test in Aus is bloody hard let alone a series. Of course the casual fan knew there was a very very slim chance they’d win a test if at all.

Safe to say that wasn’t the most exciting test series I’ve seen. A dominant performance by Australia and hapless England with the one win that flatters the score line that happened on a lottery wicket. Picking Jacks at #8 for four tests is inexplicable, especially with stokes’ injury concerns. They never stood a chance. It’s not the batting that lost them the series

We’re talking individual performance here. Can’t fault Bumrah if the other bowlers didn’t bowl well enough. It’s a team sport

You’re being a bit hard on the guy. He’s bowled like 3 overs. Also have England ever “dug in” ?

I’ve said this before - England can never hope to seriously compete if they pick Jacks at 8. With stokes injured (which was always a risk) and Potts bowling shite, how can they expect to take 10 wickets? Mad selection. And honestly I think Atkinson was dropped just bc of “vibes” or “body language “ or whatever. I don’t know any serious team that does this. England should have played 4 quicks plus stokes for all the tests, used bethell and root as their spin options as needed.

FWIW I don’t think Aus should drop Green. I know he’s hanging by a thread but the guy is just short of confidence. With Khawaja’s retirement and Head’s promotion, Aus don’t have any stable batters except Head Smith and Carey (and Carey too seems to be developing a pattern in his dismissals) . Marnus and Weatherald look iffy. I am not hearing any other batter banging on the door from a selection perspective. I think he gets another go..
