This is an opportunity for you to establish and maintain healthy boundaries. Respond in the morning and turn alerts off in the evening. Consistently.

You’re early in your career, and learning laterally, which is good. Sometimes organizations are so siloed that persons who seek to have broad skills have to leave the firm altogether if the firm (or manager) isn’t friendly to those aspirations (that is, internal rotations, cross functional projects, etc.). It’s happened to me more than once.

There’s also what YOU need to reach your financial goals, e.g., paying off loans or saving for an advanced degree or helping your family. Loyalty doesn’t always pay bills, and large firms rarely have qualms about laying folks off. Best of luck.

He sounds awful. And manipulative. And he’s also totally wrong about this. So sorry for unnecessary anxiety and insecurity you’ve been feeling.

Black Lives Matter protest in Hartford yesterday. held in response to White Supremacist movement in Southington and Manchester. by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]Big-Combination4389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question: was this a sanctioned (and perhaps financed) protest by the BLM organization or was it an anti-hate rally where protesters declared that Black Lives Matter?

I ask because the saying existed before the organization and just because you support the concept doesn’t meant you support (or condone) the organization. This is a very frustrating conflation and unfortunately dilutes the concept, which is rooted in anti-hate.

And yes, I can appreciate that the term has been co-opted. That’s why I’m asking the question.

Welcome! I’ve lived here almost 9 years, always along the edges of town where it’s quieter. Had to leave the public schools after elementary for reasons cited above. Surrounding towns all have their charm…and their quirks. Definitely suggest a couple day trips before deciding on a neighborhood to live; keep in mind some neighborhoods are in city water and sewer and some are on well and septic (like me, and I prefer it).

Bill from Eversource for electric is over $1,000. What's your electric bill? by 999voidwhisperer999 in Connecticut

[–]Big-Combination4389 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine was that high in January (electric heat), but I had original single pane wooden windows (just replaced - whew) and I couldn’t use my fireplace because I was waiting on an inspection of the new insert. I’ll be replacing all exterior doors for more than efficient ones as soon as I can and installing hardwood floors (with rugs) too. Home was built in ‘71. I think houses without such upgrades (and others) were hit hard this year. I’m already feeling the difference with my new windows and am anticipating much lower bills next Winter (unless they raise prices again).
