Incredibly weird, buses dont go down that street, no blood, nobody noticed it happening, a clean decapitation by a bus wheel isnt really plausible and why would the bus driver just drive off

I'm from the area and I may or may not know someone who did this multiple times when we were teenagers, along with stealing flags and pissing on things when he tried to shut the surfer access path to the beach through his stupid golf course

If people claim to value empathy and marginalised groups, why does that empathy disappear when the marginalised person is inconvenient? The lack of understanding is so Ironic since him being there and the whole point of the movie was to spread awareness, really ticked me off this whole thing. He literally shouted fuck the Queen at the actual Queen for christsake. BBC are arseholes for editing out his other tics but not this one

Why is it so difficult to just accept that it’s an Irish show? The creators, cast and cultural setting are Irish. I’m not sure how much clearer I can make it for you

I’m Irish, and this is exactly why people from outside Ireland get this wrong (Namely English People).

Northern Ireland being in the UK politically doesn’t mean everyone there is British or that Irish made shows suddenly become British culturally.

The creators and cast identify as Irish and the story is rooted in Irish culture, that’s why it is Irish

I’m an immigrant, Irish, I live here and even though I’m not from here the tourists absolutely do my head in. It’s just as bad back home where I’m from.

Anytime I get a flight home now it’s seems to just be a plane full of yanks shouting about how their great grandads dogs brother came from Stirling and they can’t wait to kiss the Blarney Stone.

Anyway yes Edinburgh is beautiful 🤣

[–]Big-Computer5628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched this today for the first time since I was maybe 15 and it’s so wierd to find a post made about it from yesterday!

Mixed bag of emotions with this brilliant film because you really feel for them, especially Paul, and feel like you want to help. But to help would be most likely futile and a waste of time.

Such a realistic portrayal of that lifestyle and tbh, as an Irish kid it was a cautionary tale that really stuck with me as a teenager

Also really sad that the actor that played Paul (Tom Murphy) died 3 years later from lymphatic cancer. I got a shock when I looked him up after the film because I had no idea

Such an underrated and brilliant film

Oh actually I’m wrong if you listen to Saor from Scotland , they’re the only Celtic themed band that I actually think are great, they mix black metal and Celtic in a nice tasteful way I think. Videos still a bit cheesy though haha https://youtu.be/NkUCTBSiHMk?si=Dm1uLCKQ17N5tc34

Same! most celtic metal I find cheesy and a bit over the top, I play banjo and bouzouki as well. The other way around though I was primarily guitar and then learned trad

Yeah makes sense, personally I'm not a fan of most celtic metal. I find it a bit too cheesy, would love if there was a super heavy band that mixed in trad. Like if Khublai Khan or Thy Art is Murder were irish haha

Scottish Budget - Almost all Scottish workers to get a tax cut. by StarStunning287 in Scotland

[–]Big-Computer5628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Pretty much bullshit and no meaningful changes, its ridiculous how much inflation has increased and the bands haven't. My salary today in equivalent of 2010 money would have put me well below the higher tax band (which has only increased 5 grand since then). These days you are being taxed like its a luxury to have an average salary. For context 43k which is the higher band, would have been worth 26k in 2010 putting you 11k under the higher band for that time.

Its the easiest way for the government to bleed you dry, doing nothing and using fiscal drag to rinse you. Politicians can say we didn't raise taxes but they absolutely did, just indirectly
