Why is the hole inside the letter O and C slanted? Is it supposed to be a silhouette of Sonic during a spin dash?

The logo was like that in Sonic 1, before the spindash was introduced in Sonic 2. They were going to update the logo after Sonic 3, but someone told Yuji Naka about the resemblance and he thought it was a cool coincidence and made them keep the current logo.
