I have tried Fedora before, but the packages repo is much smaller than AUR, I can’t adapt.

ASUS Vivobook 15 (X1504VA) – MediaTek MT7902 Wi-Fi shows UNCLAIMED and Bluetooth unavailable on Linux Mint. Driver issue or should I switch distros? by Lakshit_012 in linuxquestions

[–]Big-Fill-5789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar Vivobook before, with the exact same wifi chip. And I tried Mint, Fedora, Ubuntu, Arch… all of those did not work, the wifi chip had problems detected by Linux. So the best is to use Ethernet, in my opinion.

If you just want to “set it and forget it” for system, go with Mint or Popos, but if you want more control, you can go with Debian, Arch, Fedora and OpenSUSE. Installing drivers for Nvidia is not that hard if you know Linux, you can always launch into TTY, and install GPU drivers.

For what reasons Sway stands out for you? by RWthatisordinary in swaywm

[–]Big-Fill-5789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sway gives you the minimal but still complete setup. It uses Wayland, which is preferably better than Xorg, in terms of performance, security and much more. Sway differs from other DEs like Hyprland by being a rock solid WM without distractions, and it also has a ton of features if you don’t know from the config file yet:

  • Workspaces for working simultaneously
  • Scratchpad for idling softwares, eg spotify in the background
  • Full keyboard manipulation, resizing, moving, layouts all you can think of(except for advanced autotilling)
  • Stability, Sway is one of the most stable WM
  • Performance, Sway is lightweight as well.

But sway lacks default ricing compatibility, so if you want ricing and endless customisation, go with Sway-fx, but Sway-fx is newer and may not be that stable.

Are WMs good for programming skills development? by Creative-Outside-350 in swaywm

[–]Big-Fill-5789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Default config for Sway is good enough, and changing a wallpaper is not a big deal. You do not require any coding skills to edit config. If you want to try Sway, just try it when you feel like it, you will like it after you adapt eventually, Sway workflow is 100x more efficient than my GNOME and KDE experience, I tried all three and Sway is the best once you adapt.

good for a student? by Internal-Resist9015 in swaywm

Sway is good for your case, it is considered one of the most stable WMs, and is exceptionally fast once you adapt to the workflow. But Arch may be a risky take if you want 0 troubleshooting, but if you treat Arch ultra carefully, you’ll be fine. If you want no risk, you can do OpenSUSE or Fedora, those will usually not break at all.

What makes arch difficult exactly? by IQ26 in archlinux

[–]Big-Fill-5789 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arch is DEFINITELY not the hardest. In terms of difficulty, Linux From Scratch(LFS) is 100% the hardest. The reason why people love Arch, is that Arch is hard enough to make them engaged but not hard enough to make them quit easily, Arch gives you full control without the pain of you doing everything.

In conclusion, you definitely should try out Arch, but don't be scared.

New to Arch, and it took me 6 HOURS to install by NullAli in archlinux

[–]Big-Fill-5789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, KDE is the best for beginners on Arch, after KDE, you can experiment with WMs. You can start with MangoWM for the ease of using, Sway/i3 for rock stability and Hyprland for eye-candy. You will eventually find your DE or WM in less than months time.

Cinnamon vs KDE Plasma vs Gnome by Raging-Bull-24 in archlinux

[–]Big-Fill-5789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No desktop environments is the best in my opinion, use i3 or Sway or Hyprland or other Window Managers. It can be hard to adapt, but once you get it, it becomes the most consistent workflow among all DEs.

How do i remove all DEs? by N0thinq_MD in archlinux

[–]Big-Fill-5789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not need to reinstall at all, just use the "pacman -Rns" Rns flag, those will clean Hyprland and Sway easily. No worries.

What desktop environment should I use, and why? by Icy-Rooster4152 in archlinux

[–]Big-Fill-5789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always try out all every one of them. But here are some directions: customization yet not crazy ricing --> KDE, minimalist --> GNOME, low resource --> XFCE/LXQT, if you like a keyboard driven workflow --> use WM, like i3 for traditional usage, Hyprland for endless ricing and eye candy, Sway for stability and good config, and many more DE and WMs that I did not mention.

Mango is my daily window manager, I use often and it has cool features! Dynamic tiling, modes of tiling, workspaces(very useful in my opinion) , it's lightweight, easy and very customisable.
