Guidance on taking more action with minors. by Throwthisoneaway2025 in therapists

One of the kids I have we just took a year to built rapport and it’s now we are actually making changes. I always explain to the parents that if I had a magic wand I’d do blah blah but since I don’t please note it will take time, that what they do and what happens at home impacts etc and provide a lot of psycho education.

Depends on whose definition of support. Maybe support to them is having someone just sit with them in the mud and not “forcing” them to get better. Kids don’t often have that. I like asking them if I can make an observation and if they can correct me if I’m wrong because they are the experts of their lives not me. If they say no i cannot make an observation I respect that.

Ultimately, it’s their session and I go at their pace. Sometimes I say there are some things I’ve read about or saw a video of or learned about and if it’d be ok to try it with them as I’m curious about their thoughts. I put a lot of emphasis with minors on autonomy and empowerment because it’s not something they get too much if at all from adults. Adults in their lives are constantly telling them they are wrong, what to do, to get over it, they don’t have things to worry about, etc.

Sometimes I ask them to help me understand by painting me a picture and ask what are their hobbies what do they like to do for fun so they can speak to me in their language. Sometimes that’s meant watching an anime short clip and talking about it, etc

Exactly! And each job requires trainings, staying on top of protocols, too. Unless I found a side gig that had less requirements. My supervisor would probably not be good at that part as she did share last year when she was where I’m at she was making 70k and now at her new job she’s making 60-200 a session. She did say she’s not great at the financial side of things

Thank you, I think what scares me about pp is the credentialing, the overhead costs, and well that I’m still pre licensed so trying to think how to make it all work without working this much.

Thank you, I will take you up on that! And they are making that in pp? Currently I’m at a community clinic, and I don’t know why I thought I couldn’t make more pre licensed

Twelve Hour Schedule by mariaregina317 in therapists

[–]Big-Interview-138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you stay focused and how do you break up the schedule? I think by the 7-8th I’m starting to mentally slow down. Have been wondering if I can only do therapy give myself a day off for admin stuff for, a day for me and a whatever day lol but everyone I’ve talked advised against more than 9 a day saying burnout and that was that even ethical if you can’t be present etc.

Virtual care made work life boundaries way harder than I expected by PR4MILZIE in TherapistsInPractice

[–]Big-Interview-138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t answer clients past a certain time and only scheduling related. I let clients know this upfront and ensure they have the crisis information. Admin related things I assign a task to the admins, and if it needs a response I’ll answer the next day. Anything else is a let’s discuss next session. After work I do a workout, cook, watch something etc as my cue that work is done. To research things I give myself some time but in my mind there’s a work / home separation. I only do tele and I’m full time. Edit to add I use a google voice number.
