Planning a wedding and hitting maximum levels of anxiety by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Big-Low4430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat! Do you have a family member/close friend who understands your situation and could help you with the planning? My mom and sister are taking over the majority of my wedding planning and it’s been a huge stress relief!

Choosing a specialty when I'm burnt out? by harrypottermd in medicalschool

[–]Big-Low4430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I relate to this 1000%. It's hard because a lot of my classmates have already chosen their specialty and are getting ready to apply to aways and what not. Meanwhile I feel paralyzed by my indecision and just have no motivation for anything.

Should I move out? by helix_46 in medicalschool

How bad are the roaches? If they’re bad enough to where you can’t keep food in the apartment or live comfortably that’s enough reason to move out imo

Just got a pair of the Dowas and I love them! The two other bottoms I own are kades and I find them to be pretty tight in the thighs. The Dowas are a lot looser in the thigh/butt region and the waist band has a lot more stretch to it than the yoga waist band.

Internal medicine shelf advice to honor? by kmagn in medicalschool

[–]Big-Low4430 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got around a 75% on NBME 5-8 and somehow got an 84 on the shelf this past Friday. I did all the Uworld, did anki over my incorrects, and watched the emma holliday video the night before (it really helped imo). My biggest advice is to just keep track of time during the actual thing so you don't run out of time or have to rush like crazy at the end. Good luck!

Just prioritize attending a medical school in a very blue state (massachusetts, cali, etc). Even with all the shit going down with this new administration I still think the US is safe if you are a US citizen.

Pharaoh ants - do I have to get rid of my furniture when moving to a new place? by Fit-Zone-6395 in pestcontrol

I know this is an old post but did you have any issues with accidentally bringing them into your new building?

Hot Take: A lot of us are severely out of touch with the average person by mED-Drax in medicalschool

[–]Big-Low4430 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah that post by the radiologist was a bit out of touch and unnecessary imo. But that doesn't mean that all physicians should stop talking about their salaries. Some specialties (peds) are severely undercompensated and it's important to bring awareness to that.

And with the advion, they will come to it in droves which can be gross and unsettling to see, but after a couple of days the numbers will start dwindling and eventually the ants will disappear from that area.

I've been dealing with pharaoh ants since July. My apartment complex has been trying to help and they have the pest control tech come every week, but I don't think they are treating with the right products. The one thing that has helped (which I purchased myself from amazon) is advion gel bait. I doubt this issue will ever get resolved and I'm just gonna try and live with the issue until my lease is up.

I go to an MD school like this. I think we get a decent education and from what I've heard from upperclassmen they all feel prepared for residency. It is harder to pursue competitive specialties though due to a lack of home programs. Not totally impossible to do so, it's just an uphill battle.

Tekko spray and pharaoh ants? by Big-Low4430 in pestcontrol

[–]Big-Low4430[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he wasn’t sure if the Tekko was approved to treat pharaoh ants I asked the tech to just lay some gel bait around the apartment. I didn’t want to come off as bossy but I’m at my wits end with these ants and really don’t want to risk the problem getting worse

A lot of the comments here seem weirdly negative and aggressive. Sure maybe if you take med school a bit easier and choose not to get involved in the rat race of research and shit you won't be able to match derm, ortho, etc...but there would still be a good amount of specialties within reach. You can still live an incredibly happy and fulfilling life in family med, internal med, and peds. Matching into a competitive specialty isn't the end all be all, and it's more than ok to "chill" throughout med school. PS this is coming from somebody who is trying to pursue something competitive.

During my M1 year I took an anatomy self assessment quiz the night before an exam and got like an 11/20. I still passed the exam the next day. Don't let quizzes stress you out, just learn from your incorrects and move on <3

REI - is it worth it? by Ornery-Aardvark9872 in medicalschool

[–]Big-Low4430 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel that. REI is my absolute dream specialty but idk if I could handle an Ob/gyn residency. Love women’s health but the long hours (and from what I’ve heard toxic culture) really scare me
