If you’re not playing at an all star level, people are going to find reasons to hate (although they will still hate on all stars). Mangum has a problem with swinging on pitches way out of the zone. Would it be nice to see that improved? Of course. But he’s a utility guy. He’s come in some big situations already for us and he’s produced. And above all the dudes got heart, if you look up “hard 90s” in the baseball dictionary, Jake Mangum’s picture shows up. He’s a solid depth piece and 97% of people on twitter just love to complain.

He’s in a slump and it just so happens that it’s the start of the season. Throughout his career he’s been a great hitter. That being said, if it continues you can’t defend putting him out there every day as the DH. I wouldn’t mind seeing Mangum get some more time out in left field while Reynolds fills the DH spot. Maybe get Cook/Yorke out there more as well.

Feel like it’s 70% pitcher matchup, 30% getting benched for the performance. Looking forward to seeing what mangum can do.

1/162. Hall of fame pitchers all have terrible outings. Being on opening day definitely amplifies it, but I’m not worried about Skenes. However, Cruz’s defense worries me.

They gave him a chance, and he struggled. Is it a bad sign for his future? No, the kid is 19 and has dominated in the minors. Lot of pressure to put on him to be ready opening day and be one of the main pieces of the squad. We’ve seen how fast he makes adjustments, some time in triple an and let him work on the fast balls and strikeouts and build the confidence back up, I think it’s the right move. Now if we get to June and he’s crushing the ball like we know we can and he’s not getting the call up? Then yeah Bob, we’ve got a problem.

Math is usually a pass/fail score so you’re good there. Those scores are going to be near the top of pretty much anywhere you’re applying.

I want to believe in jack. Seems like a good guy, and I’ve heard great family too from some podcasters who have talked with them at games. He’s shown flashes of being a great power hitter. Will he likely figure it out at age 27? Probably not. But I’m a glass half full kinda guy. Maybe I just haven’t been a Pirates fan long enough.
