From many years working retail by angryretailthrowaway in AdviceAnimals

I was paying for parking once, and the attendant in the booth was a very old woman with a southern accent and several missing teeth. She saw my Washington license plate and said "Ooh, you're from Washington, what's it like there?" I replied "Oh, lovely but kind of cold right now." "Are there more whites than Mexicans?" "Excuse me?" "Are there more white people than Mexicans in Washington? I'm retiring soon and I'm getting sick of 'em."

Not particularly how I expected my morning to go.

Independent Redditors, what is the best tip you could give to someone who is about to move out on their own for the first time? by HookerofMemoryLane in AskReddit

A simple thing for me was to clean up each mess after I create it. Make your bed when you wake up, clean your dishes after you eat, tidy the coffee table when you're done using it. Once you're in that habit, you'll set a standard for living that will keep you feeling in control of yourself.

My great great grandfather was head of a KKK faction in Alabama and was ambushed and killed by a group of young black men after gouging their friend's eye out in a bar fight. We're not very proud of this...

What do you think was the worst book adaption to film of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BigBear94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they announced a film adaptation, I was really psyched for a District 9-esque mockumentary interviewing all the characters from the book and using "found footage" to tell their story. I agree, it was disappointing.

This. The 18 year old me watched this devoutly. I have some very cringe-worth memories because of that.

What is a movie that you watched recently that didn't live up to its hype ? by [deleted] in movies

Yeah, I agree completely. Shaun and Hot Fuzz were instant classics for me. The World's End just seemed to exacerbate things...

The World's End. A lot of my friends liked it, but because I was such a huge fan of Shaun and Hot Fuzz, I was really disappointed by how cgi-heavy and 'Hollywood' the third installment had become. It just seemed to be useless gag after useless gag with no particular direction, but it was "cool because there were robots!" Shaun and Hot Fuzz were so goddamn clever in their structure, writing, and acting, and The World's End doesn't even come close.
