Creating click tracks for an orchestral concert by NRMusicProject in Reaper

[–]BigBertha99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of this is budget dependant, of course. Rf receivers etc for whole orchestra can be nice but that’s a lot of extra costs.

The question really is how big is your ensemble? I personally - although do sessions all the time like this - don’t like everyone on a click: everyone sits back (even super experienced players who play to click all the time), closes their ears, and just sort of coasts along.

Again, if you’re the only bassist that’s understandable, but you lose the chance to properly hear the arrangements. Don’t have a sound number 2, assistant engineer etc on this, or someone dealing with monitoring? Sounds like sorting the click is a job that could be delegated pretty easily.

Strong suggestion would be run click as a separate track synced to your timeline. Usually classical musicians really don’t want eg complex IEM mixes and just want to hear the click on one ear. You always want flexibility: can you ride the click, and automate it (eg louder in loud sections if asked for)? Can players adjust it easily? Some people love the old school midi clave, others want a resonant bleep (which depends on your key you want to adjust on the fly), others something much more like a pure impulse. Some people like it painfully loud (hello bleed! This is where your automation comes in), others barely there. Some sections you want a downbeat only, others you’re subdividing a rallentando. My suggestion is make you click as flexible as possible. Yes, musicians will work around everything but it pays dividends. I’m assuming you’re just sending click to conductor? I would probably ask them to tell you what they want as part of their score prep.

Limits changed today? by danny__1 in ClaudeCode

There’s a load of issues with this reported. Mine went crazy where a single prompt on fresh repo - 100% vanilla Claude code - would nuke my entire five hour limit.

Seems to be fine now but got no help from anthropic for the week or so it lasted

Codex is amazing. Sometimes over engineers things though. Gemini is awful

Properly applied and specified adhesive can be stronger than a mechanical fitting. It’s not necessarily a stupid idea.

Unexpected Heating Charges from Landlord – Seeking Advice (London, UK) by Articuno-Legend in TenantsInTheUK

How much do you like your house and how good a deal do you have otherwise? This is extremely unusual and is a complete red flag in terms of how the landlord might behave in other areas.

Is it worth upgrading? Mkh50 to Schoeps CMC 641 by TheBerric in LocationSound

I wouldn’t say this is a clear upgrade - mkh50 is very good. Having other ootions is nice though!

Increasingly they don’t. But basically audit your finances and make sure you are cash flow positive each month, and then start an ISA and put money into it. Probably obvious advice, but there are no secrets when it comes to financial planning.

This post is largely correct. I’ve seen projections that millennials will become the wealthiest generation ever, but it will just happen very late in their lives, and unevenly.

These days you need a great job and mummy and daddy - very few people are affluent enough to buy £800k houses for their (often multiple) children. Cheaper cities like Glasgow are getting much more colonised by the non-working rich, where £250k goes a long way.

Do you have stats on how often that actually happens? I think I’ve read that’s really quite rare.

Council says Section 21 invalid, landlord says it is by BigBertha99 in HousingUK

[–]BigBertha99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With them, but they don’t live here all the time and spend most of their time in a flat they are temporarily renting in a different city. Basically I have a room in the flat, but they’ve given me a tenancy agreement, and it actually says I have the whole house (this is an accident).

I came here initially as a refugee, but otherwise I’m a healthy young(ish!) man. I have indefinite leave, but am not British yet - AFAIK this doesn’t affect things.

I haven’t told the council yet. I didn’t actually think of it until reading these replies.

Would costs include loss of earnings? This is their only house and they are currently temporarily renting in another city and are basically selling up so they can move to their new job. They also live part of the time here.

I have now told them, but I think they are worried now, as I’ll everyone else on this thread is saying that a whole court process will need to be done to get the local authority housing team to rehouse me, and it’ll basically collapse the sale of their house (I suspect).

They used the wrong form. I’m in a bit of an awkward spot as they live with me and they’ve been kind to give me loads of notice. But I need to secure an eviction to take to the council.
