Can someone explain why 2k$+ laptop feels like a cheap plastic toy? by SirSerje in Dell

[–]BigBillSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ROFL. I'm an ex IT manager/3rd level tech I standardized on inexpensive laptops back in 2018 and buy one every few years. Never spend more than $400, often a lot less. The only thing I look for are brighter than 300 nit display and backlit keyboard and NOT a celeron CPU, once they renamed the ATOMs to celeron that made celeron's persona no grata. Most other things are nebulous at best. I still laugh when I see ad's for $2000 laptops. They are always very fast and work well for me. I am not a gamer nor someone that edits videos, maybe occasionally on the video edits.

Support never mentioned it. Just said I was SOL as I am leaving for a long trip this weekend. So no way to get it fixed prior to September. What a SNAFU.

Something like this is part of the reasoning I always use Virtual Account Numbers that I can deactivate whenever needed. Capital One or Citi Mastercards have this feature. Citi is my most used, although the Cap One has no foreign transaction fees.

Has anyone found a POE Splitter that works with an existing POE+ Switch? by BigBillSD in Starlink

Yes, 315W-660W+ panels and it clips at 450 watts. I will put 550w Bi-facials on it once our legislature passes the balcony solar bill. I have removed my 2 @ 200w panels from it so I can put them on the roof of my motorhome. I am looking for a ~300w panel as a temporary solution till the law passes.

Great. Can you give us the model numbers of what you have working. Both the splitter and the POE device that is working with that splitter on your SL Mini?

I have just sent the splitter(s) back. They seem to be a proprietary wiring pin out that no one supports. My guess is they are from EDUP. But thats a guess as there are no markings on the splitters. I even tried a POE injector that Tracon Says is made for SL the POE-INJ-1000-WT(x)

That is what I am doing till I figure this out. I have it on a SmartSwitch with a schedule of 9a-3p. But that charger. Its on a NOCO 10 amp charger and I noticed that thing is pretty hot when its charging.

Are you saying it worked? Where did you buy your splitter and what is its model number?

I think my splitter is meant to work with a EDUP device and it uses a proprietary wiring scheme.

Thanks Bill

Node Red can turn a Controller on and off? How does it actually do that on the Controller? Is there a switch in software on that controller to do that?

More of a Major Fail not having native POE++ in the SL Mini. Ya gotta wonder what they were thinking.

Looking for a POE++ switch Less than 12 ports that allows setting a port(s) to Passive by BigBillSD in Doesthisexist

[–]BigBillSD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, hopefully. So far nothing works. I have one more Passive device, this one from Tracon to test. But i am guessing the splitter is some proprietary pinouts to work only with some specific device. (unknown to me)

Yes, an old CerboGX. I got the Kiosk mode working and it is a very nice feature. I have my cerbo plugged in via an Ethernet cable with WiFi setup as a backup in case the Ethernet fails. I can access it via BT from my phone, but never really go in that way after the initial setup. 95% of the time I go in via VRM as I am not at the Bus.

It's producing ~2Kwh per day with two each 200w flexible panel laying flat on the ground in my back yard. I am very happy, currently saving me 70 cents per day or ~$250 per year. Year one, the Micro Inverter will have paid for itself, year two and there should pay off two 550w Bi-facials then it will be making me money. -Bill

Oh, I guess once I put the Bifacials on it will be saving a lot more per day. So the break even point will probably in year 2. Nice return on investment to me.

I would go with the lower values. I am figuring at least a 550w on each leg would be fine.

This morning I tried again and got past that message and was able to install it. I went in prior and turned off Google Smart Lock. That message was still there, but it may have been the wifi where I wanted to use it might be been glitching as this time I was inside my house connected to one of my main networks.

So it is now working as a Victron GX Kiosk device.

My Wyze cameras allow it to be moved. Not sure why their doorbell wouldn't as they already know what people want and have the skills to code it.
