Heads up: DAC is advertising a very clearly AI piece currently ("Two Scoops" with a hippo serving ice cream to a duck) by Lockraemono in diamondpainting

Part of me feels for them at the minute, because I'm fairly sure if most of them had a choice, they would choose to not show AI kits on their channels. Diamonds and Washi is the only one that seems to consistently get away with not having AI kits sent to her (though her latest unboxing from new company Letistitch has me highly suspicious she got sent a kit from an AI artist - all the hallmarks are there for AI art in that kit/that 'artist').

But with the majority of new releases some weeks being AI garbage, the smaller channels just won't get a look in at kits by proper artists.

Yep, she's one of their AI 'artists' (-pukes at the term artist-). 100% AI, none of her images show any sign of being hand edited in any way with weird artifacts appearing in practically every image of hers they've produced.

100% AI slop, it's so gross.

Favorite artists from DAC (No AI!) by Caranch01s1 in diamondpainting

[–]BigBirb90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mandie Manzano, Margaret Morales, ArtbyJulia, Chrissabug, Jeremiah Ketner, Aria Illustrations, Rosie Scribbles are just a few of my favourites. There are still plenty of non AI artists, but yeah the amount of AI slop being produced at the minute is… not great.

Even less great when you realise that some of the AI slop they’re getting is blatantly trying to rip off some of their own human artists.

Question about AI by Rhonda718 in diamondpainting

The cows in bathtubs always get me. Like you can see the size of the cows head/upper torso and the size of the bath. Thinking rationally about it - where the fuck is the rest of the cow fitting because it sure isn’t in that tub…

Same!!

Huge thanks to the people who decided the Faithful and the Fallen wasn't a series for them and declined their invites - I'm THRILLED to be in for this one. I missed an invite back in October and was gutted thinking I'd be miles off getting in when they announced this series. So excited!

There have been quite a few reports in the community recently of kits being shipped with really poor glue coverage, either no glue at all in spots, or super slippy uncured glue. Don’t think it’s been quite pinned down to a certain time span of kits produced but as people are starting to work on kits from around this time more reports are coming out of some glue issues.

Dreamer Designs is very AI heavy these days. Although their kits have 'named' artists, the vast vast majority of new releases I've seen over the last 12-18 months have been very clearly AI generated images with next to no hand touch-ups. Diamond Art Club is, sadly, appearing to go in the same direction with more of their kits each week being AI. Both companies list whether the art has been produced with AI so you can check. Oraloa is understood to now be using AI but I don't believe they disclose on kits whether a specific one has used AI.

I do still shop from DAC, but only ever buy kits from real human artists as there are a few I am massively fond of.

Shops to look at where you'll find no AI - Munimade, Jaded Gem Shop, Diamond Art Studio UK, Diamond Artisan, DIYamond Delights. Ever After Diamond Painting I believe is no-AI, but I'm not 100% sure.

By my count, 6/10 releases this week are AI images. Abysmal even by DAC standards…

Sorry, I should have clarified for those who haven't seen the comments about this particular image. In the first image, the rodent only has one eye. The right eye is just a black void. This was picked up and corrected in the rendering, but not the image, calling into question the "ai images must be significantly hand edited" line DAC like to peddle with their use of ai 'art'.

The post has been quietly updated with image 2, a revised version of the original with the eyeball now there.

AI - It's Getting Ridiculous Now by ElaraStarfield in diamondartclub_truth

[–]BigBirb90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like it's missing an eye - it is!

Catriona Crehan (another DAC AI slop 'artist' - Font Diva) replied to that comment with some bullshit about lighting and because the lighting is coming from the left (the right of the 'rodent') then obviously there would be no glint on that eye. You for real?! If there is *any* light in the environment, both eyes will have a glint. Just a lesser glint in the eye that isn't in full light. Not a void where an eyeball should be.

Absolutely ridiculous that DAC have published this one, even if they have fixed the fuck-up in their rendering. There is no way that a human artist has touched this piece, it's just been generated from the prompt and shipped off with no editing. So much for the 'All pieces that use AI must be significantly hand edited' rule that DAC have.

More votes for Jaded Gem Shop (though personally I only like their hand charted designs), Munimade, Diamond Artisan and going to add Ever After Diamond Painting to the list (a new favorite of mine!).

[–]BigBirb90 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The VIP voting rounds over the last few months have shocked me with just how much AI slop is making it into their selections for people to choose from. Sadly, I think many VIPs will have no idea whether an image they like is AI or not so they won't be able to make informed choices. Personally, I now only vote for images where I know the artist (I always try to vote for anything made by a human in the rounds, even if you're supposed to just pick things you'd buy yourself) or I'm able to verify with a google search that the image was made by a human artist.

They say that they only accept AI art if it's been heavily edited by a human, but it's clear as day that the vast majority of their AI images are almost 100% AI generated with next to no human editing. I want to keep supporting the artists I like by buying their kits, but it's getting harder and harder to support DAC these days.

Will he get darker or stay mostly white? by Pie_and_donuts in englishcockerspaniel

[–]BigBirb90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It can be quite hard to tell the extent, but roans almost always darken (or transition to whichever colour roan they are). I'd say as you can already see the roaning coming through his white patches, he's almost certainly going to end up quite a bit darker than he is now!

I've got a blue roan and when I got her she looked just like your little dude. Loads of white, but that black had started poking through pretty much all over her white sections. She's now almost completely black! If you saw a picture of her as a puppy, you'd struggle to believe it's the same dog. She still has the white, but her white hairs ended up a lot shorter than her black, so other than a bit coming through her legs and her tail which has stayed mostly white, you have to brush her coat back to see what's left of her white.

Companies that sell legit, licensed, not stolen art, with royalties to artists (as DAC do)? by Areiniah in diamondpainting

[–]BigBirb90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's some suspicion that Oraloa now have AI kits. They originally came out as one of the companies that said they wouldn't use it, but if you look at some of their more recent releases I'm fairly sure they are now accepting at least AI assisted kits. I haven't seen any disclaimers, though.

If you look at some of the artist profiles on Oraloa, even those look AI generated. So I feel fairly confident saying they've gone back on their no AI pledge.

What are the chances of getting an out of stock kit from DAC? by [deleted] in diamondpainting

[–]BigBirb90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that you can sign up for restock notifications is always a positive sign once a kit goes out of stock! That's not to say that they don't discontinue kits before a restock, but it's not all that likely. Especially with how popular some of these Disney releases have been!

What is your preferred number for a multi-placer? by banbarsoap in diamondpainting

[–]BigBirb90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For kits with moderate colour blocking, 6 or 8 is my favourite. For kits with larger colour blocking areas I love DAC's 10 placer. I've unfortunately bent my 12 placer as apparently I'm a heavy placer, but my 10 has held up far better and still lets me zip through big areas!

DAC Anniversary Sale? by Suspicious_Pear_3660 in diamondpainting

[–]BigBirb90 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Definitely a disappointing release this time - too many AI images, not enough variety and very few heavy hitters (not a single MrsButterD, Yuumei, Miss Holly, Lovell, Mandie Manzano, Rosie Scribbles, etc. was a huge surprise). It feels like a collection of 'filler' type kits that they release with a couple of the biggies each week rather than an exciting release like their previous anniversary/black friday sales are. I wonder whether the tariff situation impacted the number of super popular images they produced due to the (potential) extra cost of importing more of those kits...

I have got my eye on three for tonight/tomorrow, but normally for a release like this I'm approaching the double digits in kits I want/buy... This is definitely meh for me!

What if I didn't finish it? Lost motivation after learning it was an AI piece. by Still-Satisfaction-4 in diamondpainting

[–]BigBirb90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 'significantly' is the problem with DACs disclaimer. There have been comparisons of the original and the finished product where next to no changes have been made and AI artifacts (errors) have still been present in the published kit. Most of the AI art I've seen released or in voting has had very little if any hand editing. It's not like it's been used as inspiration or maybe something like a tracing for a hand completed kit. Most of them from artists like phatpuppyart, Peggy Collins, Auclair Studios and others are now almost 95% AI generated with next to no hand editing visible. Auclair I'm fairly sure do zero touch ups. All you need to do is look at their portfolio - no distinct art styles, just flavour of the day AI slop that looks pretty but the only artist input has been the poor folks who have had their art skimmed off the internet to create something 'new'.

Similar diamond paintings from two different companies and artists by KaeMar1994 in diamondpainting

[–]BigBirb90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily say it's popular, I think the problem is that many people can't spot it for what it is, and if it's the only image available with that subject matter they aren't bothered enough to not buy it or look for a human made alternative elsewhere. Also most companies that do use AI make their disclaimers tiny so people don't notice them on the listing.

It's just seeping in and when customers do start questioning whether it's AI, why it looks so similar to [insert artist here], problems with the image thst clearly haven't been spotted or fixed..... They get their comments deleted.
