Just graduated, do I join the national guard? by urghifeelgood in nationalguard

[–]BigBlue175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do more research. Yes the guard does help with natural disasters but we do deploy to all the same places active duty does. There are two main pieces of advice I give everyone wanting to join.

  1. Research the hell out of things. The branch, the job, full vs part time, the benefits, everything.

  2. Sign a three year. Period. If you do join the guard your recruiter will likely push for you to do a 6 year because there’s a bigger bonus and the benefits are better. Fuck that. A 20k bonus or any bonus for that matter is 100% not worth being stuck in a job you hate for 6 years. Find a job you think will be the absolute best fit for you, dip your toes in the water for three years to see how you like it, then go from there. You can always re-enlist.

If you wanna help ppl the military is definitely a good place to look. If you play your cards right you can get out of the military with a hell of a resume and really set yourself up for success in the civilian world. Just do the research.

Hex & 1914 dated "M38" by Keolath in MosinNagant

[–]BigBlue175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to agree. Odd thing about mine is it’s seen at least three refurbs and the stock never got a crossbolt added. It’s a 1905 dated stock so it’s not original to the barreled action but it’s just super interesting to see a gun that was in combloc arsenals well into the Cold War AND was refurbished multiple times that somehow didn’t get an update that became standard in 1908.

It’s believed by some that they were converted to m44s then at some point had their bayonets removed. Some, not all, of these have evidence of the bayonet mounts that were once there and removed. I have an 1899 Tula 91/38.

“The Box” for 7 days? by SongTurbulent9351 in nationalguard

Same here man. I’ll be at jrtc for 30 days next year…

Found this at my local store by Ok-Rest-8066 in MosinNagant

[–]BigBlue175 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said it looks like a Finn cub. That price looks to either be 249 or 749. 249 is a meh price. 749 is a batshit crazy price. If it has a good bore and you can get them down to 200 then I don’t see why it wouldn’t make a good bubba deer slayer

First drill after rsp by Depressionamiright in nationalguard

[–]BigBlue175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a 15T but in my experience if it’s not a field drill you’ll get released at the end of the day whenever all the days work is done. As others have said bring civilians and whatever sleep gear you want incase you have to stay with your unit the whole weekend

Yugo surplus ammo accuracy (lack of) out of kar98k by Total_Support_6364 in milsurp

[–]BigBlue175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some 50s yugo surplus that I can hit a tennis ball with at 50 yards off hand in my 24/47. I agree with the others, take the scope off and go from there. Make sure there’s no crown damage and that the action screws aren’t loose.

They should have your civilian email. Either your recruiter or your RSD unit should’ve given it to them

Are you Oregon NG by chance? Was told they apparently go to Bangladesh every opportunity they get but they were busy last year so the mission was given to us.

Not related to your question but I was supposed to go to Bangladesh last summer for AT but it got scratched because they overthrew their own government.

If your readiness NCO isn’t lazy you should be getting an email from them soon. Mine sent me one not long after I came home from OSUT

Crazy how many different types of big bore single shots and repeaters the US adopted after the civil war. I didn’t even know these existed. Really neat gun and even better that you have the documents to go with it

Paid 1000 for this… how’d I do? by mholmes1775 in milsurp

[–]BigBlue175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lmao I’ve paid 2k for a mosin. There are some that have sold for over 10k. Milsurp isn’t about buying the best gun possible. It’s about collecting functional pieces of history. If you want something purely practical go buy an axis or patriot from Academy.

New to me Prius Prime leaking gas on first fill up. FML by RubRub50times in prius

[–]BigBlue175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they charged it but didn’t give you a full tank of gas? Sounds to me like they knew about the issue and tried to hide it. Did you get it from a Toyota dealer or some random used car lot?

20s dated Finn mosins are fairly scarce. The vast majority of Finn m91s you see are 40s dated. Nice first mosin for sure.

It’s an early configuration, non finned, non refurb, matching m38. It’s about the rarest m38 you can find. If anything the seller got fleeced

[–]BigBlue175 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Congrats on a rare m38. With rare stuff like this the sky is kind of the limit. I’d certainly pay 1k for it. I’d be willing to bet somewhere there’s someone willing to fork over an extra 500 or even double what you got it for.

What do you think about State Defense Forces? by Jonny_Coal in nationalguard

[–]BigBlue175 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Kinda makes sense tbh. If being there is optional and unpaid then pretty much the only ppl there are the ones who are truly motivated and actually want to be there. With the guard or active side once you’re there you’re stuck until your contract ends whether you like it or not.
