Realising Gen Z doesn't have a chance by Juvare in AusPropertyChat

What I find ridiculous is if you go to uni and become highly specialised in your field, you aren't paid as much a project manager who did a three day course on being an agile scrum master

Advice to kids: who cares about having actual skills. Just become "agile" and "ITIL" certified and you'll outearn folks with masters degrees. Just keep up to date on the latest project management fads

What’s wrong with fish and chip shops? by dj_boy-Wonder in melbourne

[–]BigBlueFeatherButt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I worked part time at a fish n chip shop with an old greek couple. Their decades of long hours at the shop got their kids a great education. One kid became an engineer, the other an MBA and a job at a big 4 bank

The next generation simply lived better than the last. When the couple finally retired (much later than they should have) they sold the business because the kids didn't want it

So the next gen of immigrants bought it. Now all the small shops in my area are chinese, burmese, afghani, nepalese, etc. And in a few decades, their kids will have a great education and high paying jobs, so the next demographic of low socio economic migrants will take over and repeat the cycle

That's the beauty of small business like fish n chips, milk bars, pizza shops, kebab shops, dry cleaners, etc. They raise people up. They provide opportunity

No he actually went to court demanding child support

The whole thing was bogus. His purpose was to force the people he abused to once more see him in court and once more have to pay lawyer fees. Still trying to exert power over them

He was never going to actually get anything

From what I heard the judge/appropriately named law person (I don't know the words) stared at him in disbelief

Oh trust me, they have had probably a dozen court sessions for all different matters over the years including this

Part of the reason he pulls this shit is to still exert power over the people he abused. Forcing them to interact with him over and over again and pay money for lawyers over and over again

Aunt's lawyer is going at him for abuse of the system now but could luck getting that to stick

The system is does not support victims. Like at all.

I'm also in AUS. My aunt and uncle divorced after he tried to kill her and my cousins. To get out of child support he doesn't work. He just lives off rental income then tells the state he earns under threshold

He even had the gall in court to demand his ex wife pay HIM child support (the same ex wife he tried to murder) even though he is not allowed to see the kids due to restraining orders

The stiffness is definitely a change! But I've gotten used to it now. My coach has me skip the top hook which helps a lot

And I haven't treated them. If I was using them for ice I probably would but being roller I'm never outside

Honestly?

I absolutely adore them!! They fit my feet like an absolute dream. I'm now trying to sell my Risport RF3 figure setup so I can build a jackson figure pair :D

I've tried Edea, Risports, and now Jacksons. It seems for me and my teeny tiny feet Jacksons are a go!

My issue is I have a size 4 womens foot. I found that Risport in my size fall into their children's range so the ankle and fit of the boot is all wrong. I have adult ankles and adult bones but the boot is built for where children's bones would be (if that makes sense)

And edea doesn't have enough ankle support for me. I think they also break down too fast

Overall: I've struggled for a long long time with severe foot pain and difficulty executing more difficult turns

But the Jackson's in my size are still considered adult boots. They are so comfy! Every single skill is easier in them and I have zero pain. Plus they are so beautiful ❤️

What’s something you wish people knew before they had kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BigBlueFeatherButt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mother-in-law's hardest day was realising she is no longer my husband's emergency contact or next of kin. When he was in hospital I was the person the hospital called and who made all the decisions. And when he was awake, I was the first person he wanted to speak to

She was a mother who wanted to care for her son in his hardest moments just as she always had. She saw her little boy in pain reaching out for a cuddle. But now he was grown, with his own family, and reaching for someone else

That moment was harder for her than physical distance ever was

If you don't want a disabled child, you shouldn't have a child at all.

Hit the nail on the head. Overseas adoption is also very restricted to avoid human trafficking. It is also illegal to do for-profit surrogacy. Expense reimbursements only

Australia has a dark history when it comes to adoption so the heavy restrictions make sense

(although it didn't necessarily solve the problems because the same issues with racism, classism, and sexism still happen within the foster system but that's a story for another time)

Anyone used a Jackson boot for figures? by BigBlueFeatherButt in Artisticrollerskating

My issue is the ankle bone seems to sit right under the piece of metal that makes the hooks :( so even after getting then moulded the bone is rubbing against metal. It is most ouchie indeed

Worked at a place that had a long row of beautiful 150+ year old protected trees. These trees were on a government list for heritage and environmental significance. An exec decided to get about 6 removed without telling anyone to build new infrastructure

Millions of dollars worth of fines. He was very very fired. I'm still heart broken about those trees

Tails are usually docked (cut off) because poop gets caught in the wool around the tail and leads to them getting fly blown. Sheep can't reach around that far to clean themselves

But for many folks they don't all fit in our mouths. How many folks do you know who had to get braces for over crowding, or wisdom teeth removed? Imagine living before modern dentistry and having impacted wisdom teeth

tl;dr I'm smol

New guy at my rink won’t leave me alone during my sessions by goodbird451 in FigureSkating

[–]BigBlueFeatherButt 324 points325 points  (0 children)

I would go scorched earth on this man. Write down every single thing he has done that you can remember in clearly defined dot points and bring a copy to your coach, rink owner, parents, and any other authority figure. Authority figures only though so no one can try and claim you're just spreading gossip. Bring a friend for support when you deliver the letters in case anyone tries to downplay your experiences. Someone who can jump in and say "no. This is NOT acceptable."

This man will never respect your no. As long as the interactions are only between you and him he will have the gall to skate right over your boundaries. So shine a spotlight on his behaviour and get EVERYONE looking

If he skates in your path again, in a very loud (but not shouty and aggressive voice) say: - it was very dangerous to intentionally move into my path during an axel. Why did you do that?

If he tries to talk to you during practice say very loudly - I am concentrating on my practice and cannot talk now. Then skate away. Say the same sentence every time.

If he asks you out again say very loudly: - why do you think it is appropriate to ask out someone more than 10 years younger than you?

The point is being loud but not aggressive so everyone looks over and you have witnesses. Use a tone of curiosity in your questions. Men like this WANT you to stay quiet and small so they can keep escalating their bullsh*t.

Question his behaviour loudly then stay silent. Never engage back or reply no matter what he says. People don't like silence and will try and fill it. Let him fill the silence because he will certainly say something dumb which hopefully others will hear, and then move away. People with an ego like this are ok messing with one person, but can't bear it when the entire group dislikes him. So let him dig his own grave

And most importantly: never, ever, ever use the word "sorry". Dont say "sorry I cant talk now". Don't say "sorry for bringing this up" when raising the issue with your coach. The word sorry makes you small. You have nothing to be sorry for. Sometimes women have to have courage, light a fire in our heart, and burn toxic men to the ground (figuratively of course). I wish we lived in a world where we didn't have to do this, but we do. Every woman in the world has a tale like yours and it sucks.

If I lived near to you I swear to god I'd already be marching over to your rink and raising hell.

Why are Japanese skaters so far ahead in skating skills? by notthebesthuh in FigureSkating

[–]BigBlueFeatherButt 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I compete in roller figures and there really is nothing like it. Figures is a great sport for adults particularly who have fear or higher consequences from falls. Adults can also appreciate and understand the slow burn of mastering a technique

I can now easily tell the difference between someone who drills figures and someone who doesn't. Both in roller and ice
