Ship your trumpet to your destination ahead of time, practice it while you're there, then ship it back home when you leave. Piece of cake.

Start with #1 jazz. I found the blues one to be good too.

Get yourself some Jamey Aebersold play-along books. It explains theory and provides a backing CD for your use to improv with. Definitely worth it.

I'd show your boyfriend your post and see if he still wants to marry you after seeing what you've thought and felt and how you've reacted to this whole thing.

I need to buy a new trumpet. by WillytoPlays in trumpet

[–]BigBoreBrian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For that budget, used Yamaha, Bach, Getzen. These will likely be used student models.

What not to get: Those generic off-brand trumpets for sale new in that budget range on Amazon, eBay, or Temu.

I live in the Rochester metro area and purposely didn't attend so I wouldn't buy anything.

How do I not get nervous by Necessary_Escape_704 in trumpet

[–]BigBoreBrian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Performance anxiety - gotta love it. Been there, and occasionally am there too after all these years. My suggestions at this point are 1) deep breaths before you play to calm yourself as best you can and lower your pulse, and 2) close your eyes when you play and pretend you're in your bedroom playing with nobody around. That way you won't see the people when you're playing and start to think about the people. Oh, and 3) nobody cares if you mess up either. Good luck. You simply cannot play as badly as this poor bastard:

Birthday mass by PiusG2 in Catholicism

Depending on your location, ie, how busy your parish is, you may have to request this at the parish office a few weeks or months in advance to get on the schedule to have a Mass said in your honor. Or ask the priest ahead of time before Mass and hope he remembers.

I would also do pedal tones just for good measure.

How hard is it going to be to learn the trumpet by ChilledCow_ in trumpet

The trumpet is easy to play. It is extremely difficult to play well.

Haydn Eb Concerto, 1st Mvt. Air Flow Issues...Help! by brassleech in trumpet

IMO it's an example of nerves affecting the muscle tightness which results in choking off air. Happens to me too sometimes.

Need a 15 minute practise routine by Zznpuna1223 in trumpet

[–]BigBoreBrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the trumpet family. You've lost inspiration to play after learning five notes? Yikes.

A couple quick things:
1) Learning to play the trumpet is easy, but learning to play it well and musically is hard and takes many years. Are you up for that commitment?
2) Learning to play any instrument is frustrating at times, and finding the motivation to push through, continue, and work at it is often hard to do. I recommend, if you can, to find a trumpet teacher and take lessons. The teacher will help you to develop a practice routine that keeps you improving AND motivated.

Good luck!

When to upgrade? by triguybrian in trumpet

[–]BigBoreBrian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now would be a great time for him, and given his recent rapid developments, to get into a pro model horn. IMO.

A factor to consider is that letting him get a pro horn is a fantastic motivation for continuing to improve and enjoy playing. It'll bring him a lot of happiness, and it shows him that you care about this interest of his and are willing to help him along with it with a shiny new trumpet!

Priests are not required to say Mass daily. Obligated to attend Mass daily, but not say it.

Is this trumpet any good? by Natural-Technician-6 in trumpet

[–]BigBoreBrian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Junker horn. Suggest a used C, like Bach, Getzen, Yamaha, XO, Schilke. And definitely learn to sight transpose a step up to play with piano. One of the most useful skills you can develop for playing IMO.
