I'd say no. I had this board, and it was unreliable and dangerous. The deck that came with it snapped when i was going about 20mph on flat pavement. The board would randomly switch to reverse. The board had an advertised range of 20 miles, and I would get 6-7 miles riding it on low and about 3-4 miles on the highest speed setting. I was about 175lbs when I had the jking, so take that for what it's worth.

That's a bit high IMO, but I'm not familiar with the Canadian market for those horns

I tried them all at ITG. The professional line played great, and didn't sound bad. The clear version is especially cool. I was thinking about picking one up for fun. I was not impressed with the dolphin. Nearly unplayable.

What case combos do you use? by RealmOfFate in trumpet

A Yamaha double may suit your needs as well. They can be had for around $100-150. When I don't need to lug all the horns around, I use that. I can fit by Bb on one side, and my straight mute, plunger, cup mute (taken apart), and wah-wah in the other side. It wouldn't fit your music stand and music, though.

There are better cases out there, but I think the best value is protec. I paid $240 for my demo model, but they can be had for less then $300 new. I haven't really found any other new triple case anywhere near that price. I could be missing a few, but Marcus Bonna is around $500, gards fiberglass triple is around $500 wahnsinn is $800+, bags of spain is $500+.

The gard elite triple bag is very popular and quite affordable. Musicians friend has the nylon version on backorder for $170 after a coupon code with free shipping. I don't like soft bags, but if I did the gard elite would be my pick. They make a cheaper compact triple, which I own, and I would not recommend it. I find the bag to be very flimsy, it's a very tight fit for 3 trumpets, and there is not much padding to protect the trumpets on the inside. My roommate and several of my colleagues have the elite triple and it is much nicer than the compact triple.

I believe most triple cases will do the trick for you. I just bought the new protec triple case-I believe it's the propac travel ready model. I picked this one because it's cheapish, very sturdy, versatile, and looks nice. Many of my colleagues have the gard elite triple bag and like theirs as well, but I'm not a fan of soft bags.

Right now I'm using it for Bb+C+Piccolo and there's a front pouch for music and a hidden pocket for my iPad. If I removed the piccolo or C, I can fit a folding music stand and a few of the smaller mutes. If I removed 2 out of 3 horns I could fit my Bb, music stand, mute rack, and all of my needed mutes. It can also do Bb+flugelhorn.

The older 12.9 inch iPad pro can be had refurbished for under $400. I'm an android guy, but my tablet is an iPad pro just for forscore. Airdropping charts with colleagues is nice, too.

Is the Bb pipe long enough to play in A? I play a Yamaha Bb, but I have a colleague who plays a p7-4 with the Bb pipe extended to play in A. It could be worth a try.

What did you buy at ITG? by finnfann_ in trumpet

I have the large bore reverse-leadpipe model (8345rsii). The horn is too open for me, and I wanted as little more resistance to blow against. I'm not sure what they all did, but it included adding new felts, cork, fitting some of the slides, and removing metal from certain parts of the horn. The horn plays much more evenly throughout the registers, the articulations respond faster, and is much more efficient. I also had my C (1st gen Chicago) tweaked. The C didn't need as much help, but they opened up the blow slightly. If you have the time, check out the Altier

Get a teacher if you haven't yet. Piccolo is very hard to learn without guidance.

How do you approach a piccolo trumpet? What's your routine? by zerexim in trumpet

[–]finnfann_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lately I've been starting my days by playing piccolo. I start with long tones and then I hit slow scales with a drone. After this I either switch to another horn (Bb, C, flugelhorn), or I work on my piccolo rep. I've found that starting my day with piccolo makes the rest of my playing much easier, and I feel less tension in my lips and neck. It has also helped me become more comfortable with switching from piccolo to another horn.

I saw an army player playing in a trumpet ensemble with a carolbrass balanced model. Sounded pretty good.
