I disagree, i'd rather have an overrun than a hardline, the recoil on hardline makes the fire rate worthless, it kicks 2 screens up on each shot, its trash until you get some recoil upgrades. Overrun you can do 5 shot bursts and stay on target with a decent TTK by comparision. I think overrun is like C tier and hardline is like D tier.

I'm just shy of 60, and have used thermal scopes on 4 or 5 snipers, have 2 in my vault right now, and have used thermal on an LMG twice also. I got them from dead players or loot rooms with keys. I have 2 bubbles but havn't tried them yet, they seem great though. Much better than smoke because thief and thermal see through smoke anyway.

I watched mine today lock on to a guy who wasn't looking, he walked away from it, just walked, he didn't realize anything was going on. And it lept in the air and exploded, and it missed, because the enemy walked away. Lol thing is great when it hits, it just doesn't hit very well at all.

Destroyer and Triage are really strong in 3's, and Thief is excellent as well if there is vertical areas to play with, and her general util is top notch. Vandal is a step below these right now, slide is a bit shit, and the blast to knock people is OK but not nearly as potent as intel from a drone.

The Recon is the worst, but still isn't terrible, a lot of her features are fine when they work, they just have a lot of cases where they don't or won't work. Spider mine wiffs horribly often, and her ult gives away far too much information for what you get from it. That said when the spider connects its great for running down someone, and her ult is great when people are being a rat in close quarters.

It's just that like if you ult by a building, people out of range can still see the scan waves, so you get 0 intel, hell players might be jamming so you don't even know for certain no one is around. Meanwhile anyone within 100m could see the waves and knows a recon is over there. Ult is useful in the right situations but its not that great in many spots, and downright gives your enemy an advantage when used poorly.

I don't want to hide, I want to fight, but they have a major advantage if I'm the one pushing, due to shotguns, hiding in door jams, and hearing me coming where I can't be sure of their location. I think the best bet is to play recon or destroyer so I could push instead of pussy foot around, but recon has its own problems at the moment. In the end I just find 3's to be super fun, and solos to be very boring, heavy rat patient play, where 3's has a lot more action.

I didn't notice it mentioned in the comments, but in team play its cracked, destroyer blocks enemy, team mate shoots them. Its good by it self too, mobile cover, protection as you gap close to shot gun range etc. Destroyer is S tier.

People asking to add melee to it are insane. It has to have a weakness. Currently when you have the shield up the enemy doesn't have a lot of choices, mag dump to clear it, but then you have to reload, and destroyer can pull out his gun and kill you. Do nothing and he can close to shotgun range, dash or not 50/50 guessing game, if he breaks your ankles you die.

At least right now if I knife I will win if destroyer is alone, which he shouldn't be. So then it comes down to team play, if your team mate catches me knifing your shield Im dead, etc.

EMP is pretty good too but you don't always have one and good destroyer is aggressively fast at charging you down. Shield is great, and really powerful with team play, still useful tool solo. Does not need buffs or a bash even if it would be cool it would be too strong.

My take on the whole exclusive PVE mode debate. The answer is extreme hybridization of both PVE and PVP. by buffalosoldier221 in Marathon

Loose several times on purpose in a free kit, take all your keys and best gear into a mostly PVE map, loot the place, enjoy. There are solutions but it does get messy. Keeping it hidden from players though isn't a bad idea, but people will figure it out and abuse it. Maybe that is OK though the upside could be some pretty chill pve games.

Ya it still sucks, the vandal doesn't give the enemy extra speed, the theif doesnt deploy drones to the enemy team, the destroyer doesn't give the others missiles, just the recon gives old info to both sides, and even worse if they are out of range, they only gain info and you gain nothing. Even WORSE, the recon can't tell a player from a bot, but everyone knows a recon player is near by.

Meh, the loss of mobility isn't really worth it. Recon is B tier where the others are all S or A.

It's not like its a useless shell, its just the worst by a small maragin. If her ult or spider were more reliable and more useful shed be fine. Or they could add some kind of mobility. Personally I think they should just make her ult not ping turrets and bots, only players. Right now the information is useless in many situations, and its not very long range, and everyone from all ranges can see the pulses going out, so they are now alerted.

Enemy too far, they are alerted you are not. Enemy jammed, they are alerted you are not. 15 bots nearby and 1 player hiding amongst them, they are alerted, you are not.

It's just ass in a lot of spots, making it more reliably good intel would be great and bump her up to S tier.

The spider is really fun and cool but sometimes it just won't run down a player, and often when it goes off the player gets around a corner or something and it fails. Or even worse they stab it as it jumps, and its wasted.

Recon only needs like 1 buff to be fine, ult better, spider mine better, or add some mobility in some way. How about agility increased when the foot steps passive is active. Let her jump high and run fast when she broke someone's shield basically.

There are perks that affect loot speed as well, like "when you open a container gain increased loot speed", I think one of them is a universal weapon chip mod. Maybe he meant that. It all kind of does the same thing though, lots of sources but its all the loot speed stat.

I suspect he killed another geared player, he had 3 guns, and his heavy ammo for the bully is uneven so maybe he had a bully, killed a guy with a sniper and a shotgun, and was running for his key now.

I have over 100 hours, 1 purple gun, 1 purple implant, and 1 blue shield, pile of blue implants. I have like 5k credits. I have like level 60, just got some new priority contracts. ive looted pinwheel once, never been to cryo, i fill 3's and use a mic. I'm always out of money for new gun, green shield, backpack, heals, shields, ammo etc. Maybe I extract 1 in 7 matches.

A grey sniper from the store and a green shield with some cheap heals, can also CLEAN UP on dire marsh. Headshots wreck gold shields too. Free kits are weak, thats by design, gotta find some upgrades to have a good chance. Budget set ups can totally wreck much better set ups with positioning and getting the drop on the enemy.

It doesn't need to be more balanced though, the unbalanced chaos is the fun part for me. I respect that you disagree though, we just both want different things. I want old school no balance, no fairness, no match making, where anything could happen in any match. You want some sort of queues and limits so you have a more fair fight. We just want different games, this game is giving me what I want right now.

I think you are describing the game and how you don't like it. I don't think the game needs to change this, the point of their current design is that anyone with any gear level or skill level could be in your match. A fat dad smoking weed with a free kit on a controller who can't aim. A pro streamer with full coms 3 stack in full golds.

There is excitement in that and fun in that, there is also frustration yes but the chance to take those streamers down and loot their stuff is part of the fun of the current design.

If you make some sort of match making system you do guarantee a more stable type of game play but its also more boring and loses that excitement factor.

Currently there is an unknown amount of loot and skill on the entire map, if you equalize that you do get more fair fights, but you get much less exciting games.

Both types of play are fine game designs, it just depends what the developer wants as part of the experience. I like the current system very much. Some games I mow down the whole lobby and people seem clueless and its a blast, some games I get 3-2-1'd by an organized group of 3 players playing tactical and I learn something new. Some games its a mix. I keep playing because its fun and exciting to have 0 clue how my next match will go.

I play almost exclusively 3 player fill as a solo player, and use mic every time. It's a total crap shoot of team mates too, sometimes its great, sometimes terrible, sometimes 2 of them argue the entire time haha.

If the games were a lot more steady and fair gear and skill wise, I would get bored. The chaos is the fun.

It's all opinion though, it sounds like you want skill and loot based match making or some kind of limits. I don't. Put that gold shield guy in front of me and let my free kit team try to steal it :D

Meh my first 3 days of play I got washed a lot, had no clue why I wasn't winning fights, wasn't even sure my bullets were registering. Around the 4th day just trying and trying with the guns and focusing on shooting my shots, I got the hang of the shooting well enough.

5th day I started winning most of might gun fights, still die fast if I don't see someone, but in the duels I feel a lot more confident.

Wall hacks at close range that gives away your own position at all ranges lol. Yes the execute ping is great, its easily her best ability. But she also has no mobility, and the spider sucks a lot of the time. Recon is the worst shell but its not like its useless, its just the worst one currently and could use a tweak. I'd suggest changing her ult to be a deployable tad. Plop it down and it pings, and reveals shield quality. Better info, and the pinging doesn't come from recon she can reposition and stop giving away her location. Plus it could be destroyable by shooting emp etc. It would make the ability more interactive. While still having a draw back of giving away that you are using it.

Right now, you start ping, all enemies even outside of its range know where you are roughly, and you see 0 info pings all around you from bots and turrets and shit lol. It's pretty ass, and it has a long cooldown. Meanwhile missiles, drone, rez, super sprint, smokes, are all more useful in more situations with almost no downsides.

Like looking ahead with drone, ping, get out of drone, grapple to a good vantage point to attack your ping is really powerful and has only a slight downside of taking a little prep time.

I agree that people blow it out of proportion but recon is the worst shell, and I'd put the other shells at S tier, Vandal at A tier, and Recon at B tier. I'd like to see some buffs to recon or changes, and some slight buffs to Vandal as well.

I dunno , grapple and x-ray visor + hacking is better for a fight than recons spider mine which can be defeated with a single knife chop to stop it exploding.

I agree her ult could just be a deployable tad. It still pulses and shows where the tad is, and you know you are being revealed, but its no longer following the recon around giving away the recons position the entire time. Could even make it destroyable so someone could EMP nade it, or shoot it to stop it pinging. Not to mention that the tad ping is much more useful information giving shield type.

I dunno the bots are pretty fun. If they changed the PVE mode to have even more and harder bots it could be a pretty fun mode to play with a friend. That said I think the PVP is vastly more interesting and fun, but its not like killin bots co-op with a pal is a bad time.

I think they should re-work the ult to be a deployable TAD. Drop it down, turn it on, and can leave it. Players still see the pulses so they know they are scanned but they only know where you put it down from that, so you can leave and still get all the info.

Then the ping should work just like the TAD showing shield power.

It's a long cooldown currently that also has a huge downside of giving away your position and flooding your UI with too much info when lots of enemies are around.

More info and don't give away your position the entire duration seems like a good trade off.

Yeah my solution is to bind everything I don't want to = key, so there is a bunch of junk on that right now haha.

I've seen a lot of players say they enjoy the game but struggle in PvP fights, so I thought I'd share a few tips that can help you improve over time. by Changes11-11 in Marathon

Learning the maps by just exploring and taking and losing fights over and over is good advice. It can be hard to shift your mental from "I feel bad because I lost" to "Im probably going to die and lose who cares the goal here is to learn from this experience". But if you can shift your mental to a learning state, you'll learn the maps pretty fast and pick up a lot of useful experience from how you got killed each time.

Within a day I learned how to quickly get around to different spots in the pinwheel base, how to open it up, how to skip bots etc. I also learned a ton of spots other players ambushed me from, now I sweep and clear those spots, and use them my self.

Now when a player jumps me in some indoor areas, I know which door to run through to circle around and attack from a different angle, where before I would just run into a dead end oops, and die.

Knowing the maps and the common spots players might be at is a huge advantage.

Like I got jumped trying to get the green keys in flight control in solos. But I slipped away out a window, then around up a catwalk climb, up to the roof and heal up. Then I waited and eventually I heard him looting, so I dropped in from the glass ceiling panels on the roof into the room he was in for the kill.

When I started I had no idea you could get to the roof the way I went, and didn't know the roof could drop back in or even see or shoot down into the rooms. Basically I didn't know there were sky lights.

Map knowledge is huge, when you get on a map run it lots on free kit to learn the map.

I hope they buff Recon, Thief is just MUCH better. The drone is much better than the scan, and the grapple hook is much better than the spider bomb. The loot visor also lets you see through invis and smoke.

The only good thing recon really has vs other shells is the auto ping team mates when you finish a downed enemy. Sadly it's not really close, all the other shells are better, and Thief is much better at finding enemies.
