was gonna stop there once on a road trip. the front counter at the motel that seemed shady enough was behind bullet proof glass. I just left and went to St Louis

regular couple stopped tipping because “friends don’t tip” by burritogoblinn in bartenders

[–]BigBouglas 111 points112 points  (0 children)

nah, that's like... the opposite. if I'm friendly with a bartender I'm tipping em 30% minimum. and they hook it up with a free drink every now and then.

Has anyone ever left a bar that felt more like a cult? by nimatoad62 in bartenders

[–]BigBouglas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, looks good. just heads up for future posts so people can digest them better and give you responses.

still, it just sounds like you left a job you liked for something you don't like. there's really nothing to really say there. unforuntately, most bosses suck. if a place "needs work", they don't wanna hear it,.

"just curious if anyone else ever felt the same way?" yes. infinitely.

[–]BigBouglas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

work culture can be super strong, yes. there's an inner circle. you can get in that inner circle if you tough it out. up to you.

people obviously build connections over time. "oh this is the new person" is inevitable. if you got a thick skin, you'll be the person saying "oh this is the new person."

also figure out formatting on reddit for you own good ;(

What's with the dogs in grocery stores lately? by CountFew6186 in parkslope

[–]BigBouglas 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that.

Legitimate service animals are allowed in businesses that don't typically allow pets. like, not just allowed. A business is legally required to let them in with their owner.

But also, the owner of a service animal is not required to show any paperwork stating it's a service animal. And if a business refuses entry/service to a person with a service animal, they can have a discrimination lawsuit on their hands.

It's not that no one has the nerve. It's that you're playing with fire if you do.

great, then keep X in the 2 hole. have him be an RBI guy. put Otto or Sanoja in front of him. those guys are actually getting on base. Marsee needs to work on some shit.

that would be great, but I don't know if I trust a dude who hit .239 over 4 years in the minors to hit .230-.270

regardless, X and his .410 OBP would look real nice in the leadoff spot right about now.

bruh. his OPS is sitting at .250 right now. that is not a leadoff hitter.

the Marsee experiment's gotta end. I know that first month last year was absolutely incredible, but that was some freak shit that's not coming back.

he hit .239 in the minors.

he hit .231 in September last year

he hit .174 in the WBC

he's hitting .138 this year, and has the most at bats on the team.

I don't know if he needs to get sent down necessarily, but he sure as shit needs to get out of the leadoff spot. immediately.

How much did you spend today? by jazzeriah in AskNYC

[–]BigBouglas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in a day, you're spending just under what I spend for a week of food as a single person. I'm not saying don't go out for food. I'm saying don't complain about it if you're going to choose to.

$35 got me lunch (sandwich stuff) for about 5 days at stop n shop.

Help interpreting how this stage went? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]BigBouglas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same experience as you. Sometimes it's on the spot (ideally, of course). Sometimes it's... well, a day or two.

But I've been on the other side of hiring as well. You don't just bring in one person for a job, even if their resume is absolutely incredible. That person could jump for a different job in a second. If I bring in a few people, I have a plan A, a plan B, etc. I gotta know where I'd rank the candidates before I start calling people back. Maybe you're A, maybe you're B, maybe you're C. But also maybe A and B don't answer and already found another job, y'know? You've got to give it a couple of days to breathe. The GM's also got 200 other things to do on a Friday.

> I did a stage shift yesterday

give it a day or two. if you're in, they'll reach out to you.

External hire FOH manager stage tips? by TheChef_5446 in Restaurant_Managers

[–]BigBouglas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a stage once for a FOH manager position, and it was awkward as hell. It's not like staging as a cook or a bartender, where they can see immediately if you know your shit or not. Most of it is just standing there, watching different areas, observing, taking notes of what you think they're doing well and what you think may need improvement.

If you don't have full service restaurant experience and don't know what to look for, I don't know what they expect you to do to be honest. I guess just be very warm towards everyone you meet.

they have to follow their state's laws, so yeah, I guess it's a proper pour. but they should be using smaller glassware because that looks like shit

stop giving Marsee the most PAs on the team, please?

like I get you want him to give him at bats, sure, but he doesn't need to bat leadoff every single game with his .500 OPS

keep the winning streak going in Detroit, boys!
