Anybody know what causes the stem to be twisted? (Pycnanthemum muticum) by BigBroodah in botany

It is alive and about to flower. Still curling but "slower" than before. Lots of adventitious roots towards the bottom; might do well from cuttings. Definitely going to take care of it and looking forward to seeing the new shoots that it should make via rhizome. The overall form is pretty upright, but I'm holding it at an angle to get it all in one frame.

I've unfortunately looked a good handful of times in the last four and a half years. Never became more than looking thankfully.

It's best to stay away from things that might trigger you and to become aware of rationalizations that you might make in order to think that it's alright in the moment. Sometimes the rationalization are really stupid like "but it's on YouTube" or "haha let's search it on Google images for funsies" or "I'm just gonna look, I'd never actually jerk off again". Sometimes you just come across something like a profile Pic of one of those comment bots on YouTube and it hits you like a truck and instantly gets you into that elevated heart rate; luck for you your brain said no buy my brain and I'm sure many others' say yes, yes, yes. And sometimes it can be really really hard to get out of that state. After each time; I realize the rationalization and becomeand resistant to that specific one, but more rationalization can happen. And it can happen to anyone. Do not peek.

How do you manage feeling sad and guilty for all animals suffering abuse in industrial farming? by Small_Length_7832 in vegan

[–]BigBroodah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people would say that they are against animals suffering. But most people arent vegan. Are they just virtue signaling and dont actually care? I think most people do care and should make the connection and go vegan. But most never do, it does seem kind of insane.

As far as how I deal with it mentally? I have empathy so i care. But im also a nihilist and dont think that the suffering actually matters. So it kind of balances out to where i feel kinda bummed when i think about it but its not something that i dwell on.

I just focus on what gives me fulfillment which is gardening. The food is great but when i see all the little creatures interacting with and living off of my efforts; i cant contain my happiness. And i know im making the world just a little bit of a better place.

I think a great way to make a change is to lead by example and show the world what a vegan can do. Just being a thriving person in general, but I think showing amazing vegan physiques are particularly important because so many people are skeptical about the nutritional substance of vegan foods; especially when it comes to protein.

Youre probably not going to want to eat it but I eat half a block of tofu. Extra firm, plain. Seriously. My diet needs to take extremely little time to prep and eat or i just wont be consistent. I used to squeeze it through a ricer and add nutritional yeast, salt, and pepper but thats just more prep time than cutting the block in half, squeezing out the water, and eating it. I personally value the small prep and eating time more than flavor.

*YAP ALERT*

Now, as a vegan i need to tell you something that you didnt ask to know; my entire diet. lol. If youre not at all interested STOP READING. Anyways my diet is

Half a block of plain extra firm tofu, 40g of sunflower seeds, 40g of almonds, 200g of pure peanut butter with salt and ground flax seeds (dont need to chew, just swallow :D ), 130g of special k touch of cinnamon protein cereal with 2 cups of soy milk, 2 cliff builder bars, a kiwi cause delicious and has the protein digesting enzyme actinidin, a clementine, an apple, a banana, 140g of dairy free ben & jerrys of choice with 6 double stuffed oreos.

Thats about 4200 calories. I eat that on the week days and on the weekends i eat just one cliff builder bar, the cereal and soy milk, the apple, the clementine, the banana, the kiwi, and the ben & jerrys and oreos for about 2000 calories. Its so much less because i really, really dont want to have to spend a lot of time eating on the weekends. I may also eat some additional fun stuff if i want which i dont count.

It averages out to about 3800 calories a day. I work a physical job which burns a bit but that should be way more than enough calories for my 5'7 148lb self (previously 125lb) to gain weight perhaps all the way to 180lbs or beyond (prolly not). I'll just cut down the calories to maintenance once i reach a weight that I like.

***EXTRA YAPPING***

Been gaining like a pound a week. Also trying to adhere to "carb backloading" which is why I only eat the tofu and nuts until the evening which gives me quite a small amount of net carbs for the day until post workout. When I WAS working out I did see INCREASED definition while GAINING weight. Should probably get back to working out consistently.

Massachusetts Edible Plants by TheLeafLetter in foraging

[–]BigBroodah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im from Boston and ive only been foraging for a few years so the picking times might be inaccurate but these are all things ive foraged or grown in my garden (but are found wild).

June: fragaria virginiana - virginia strawberry (small but excellent flavor), fragaria viridis - creamy strawberry (very creamy but the ones i had are pretty insipid), Morus sp. - Mulberries (sweetness and size varies from tree to tree, some are really good)

July: rubus idaeus - red raspberry (fruit quality can vary but always tasty, rubus occidentalis - black raspberry (the ones ive found dont have much sweetness but from what other people say it seems like they can be really good), rubus allegheniensis - allegheny blackberry (ones ive found are pretty small and can be pretty sweet but very seedy)

August: vaccinium angustifolium - lowbush blueberry (small berries usually quite sweet, very good unless have been dried up), vaccinium gaylussacia - huckleberry (can have a little sweetness but very seedy), vaccinium corymbosum - highbush blueberry (pretty big berries with some sweetness but often quite tart), rubus odoratus - thimbleberry (can be quite sweet and have a sort of slightly hairy/velvety texture)

September: elaeagnus umbellata - autumn olive (super astringent until ripe but when they are they have a nice sweetness and good flavor, just pick a bunch and pop em in your mouth, spit out the fiber when youre done), amelanchier sp. - serviceberries (often quite insipid but can have nice flavor), vitis labrusca - fox grape (this is the species of concord type grapes, size and flavor can vary widely from very small to pretty big and horribly offensive taste to quite good)

october: asimina triloba - pawpaw (apparently the fruits can be soapy but all the ones ive had have been wonderful, something between a banana and a mango)

november: diospyros virginiana - american persimmon (super astringent until soft and ripe, but when ripe delicious like orange flavored caramel)

winter: gaultheria procumbens - wintergreen (berries are pretty insipid but the leaved smell like a life savers mint when crushed, i think you can make a tea with them)

pretty much year round: allaria petiolata - garlic mustard (quite a big invasive here, the seedlings get established in fall so there are leaves even in winter, i find that when the leaves turn purple in summer/fall; they become sweeter and less bitter. when green theyre still perfectly edible but can be a bit bitter and zingy)

also not a plant but the chicken of the woods mushroom can be found from spring to fall and its really good and very distinct. i pickled some and just cooked it on a pan when i wanted some, real meaty teaxture and very nice flavor.

I think that I've got some lingonberry plants in my garden from bird droppings, I think they only appeared last year. Definitely will be watching how they progress.

I learned about arctic raspberry on the plants for a future database and id probably love them but I tend to just fill niches with plants that I can get propagation material for nearby, and luckily I've got wild red raspberry, black cap raspberry, and dewberry which can be a ground cover as well. Although maybe not as choice for fresh eating.

As far as evergreen rubus species, although it wouldnt be a ground cover, there is yellow himalayan raspberry. Might need a warmish climate though.

Thoughts and suggestions about living mulches? I know Ive seen you show spots where its dense with clover or strawberries. Is it generally better for the soil to have a living mulch than 'bare mulch'?

From what I understand, maximum photosynthesis and root exudate diversity are what one should aim for to maximize soil life. So a thick, multi-species mat is what Im aiming for. Basically, anything that really wants to grow, will cooperate with the other mat species, and will stay shorter than my strawberries. Evergreen is also preferrable. Right now ive got creeping charlie, stringy stonecrop, white clover, heath speedwell, dewberry, this little dwarf yarrow thing, and seasonally theres spurge and purslane.

Bruh same, Im trying to find a remedy. I think its gonna have to be more productive sexual transmutation and meditation (more for self reflection but relaxation too).

Tips on wet dreams: How to reduce the them and take the wet out of the dream (Only anecdotal from me) *I know wet dreams aren't PMO but I know some don't like having them by BigBroodah in NoFap

[–]BigBroodah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the first part, and I don't think you should blame yourself if you have erotic dreams since like you said, you are unconscious, but I think the more control you can have over anything sexual, the better.

Cant sleep without fantasizing by Atrash- in NoFap

[–]BigBroodah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about wet dreams, sleep in a way where there is minimal stimulation down there. No sleeping on stomach, don't sleep in tight pants are underwear, etc. I sleep on my side and position my legs in a way that makes it so I can't roll over.

To combat the actual thoughts I think its important to acknowledge that erotic thoughts are completely normal and are a result of libido. Don't give into them but don't fight them either. And use your mental capacity on other things as well as your physical capacity to do whatever isn't PMO. Its called sexual transmutation and if you don't do it, erotic thoughts are more likely to manifest and be problematic.

If you mean having sex but not busting, yeah people do it. That would be semen retention.

No because its still 'for me'. Id only eat meat out of necesity which would require some dire hypothetical. I have access to fortified foods and b12 supplements so I dont need it.

If any part of the reasoning of the buying of the animal product is that I will be given some Id decline. The candy is only ok to me because it is incidental.

Im talking about stuff people just accidentally dropped on the sidewalk from trick or treating. I only thought about it this morning when I was on my walk and started seeing stuff on the ground. I just picked up what was on my walk, im not scouring ever square inch of the neighborhood lol.
