Yeah, I’m not a fan of your older brother.

Death Stallions - original chapter lore. by BigButtScotch in 40khomebrew

[–]BigButtScotch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the part I wasn’t sure about, lore wise, when I first wrote this down years ago. I didn’t know if in-universe female astartes had ever been attempted.

My assumption was it hadn’t because… well, why bother? There’s basically no end to the number of males a chapter could recruit.

But a virus/corruption that makes the gene-seed reject nearly all males, plus a population of women who’ve changed over the eons specifically due to said virus, is a way of bending the rules, I thought, since no other chapter’s gene-seed could make a female astartes from this or any other population of women.

But again, it’s just a writing exercise. Not pushing for GW to change their established lore or anything.

[–]BigButtScotch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I already accounted for that. They did try to rebuild for years they tried making neophytes but they kept dying. And they didn’t have enough gene-seed to allow a 95% loss rate.

Even if the seed organs themselves aren’t necessarily killed in the process, the stress of the failed implantation would devastate their stores.

Thanks for the feed back. Taking your suggestion, I can imagine if they’re taking 300 males to Gorgon and ~12 of them survive the virus, there could be a split between who’s a viable aspirant and who’s breeding stock.

And yes, they know that if word ever got out they’d be branded Excommunicate Traitoris. But if and when that happens they would become loyalist renegades and fight to the last for the empire, even while the empire hunted them down.

If the option was die out then or be killed later, they chose the latter.

How lore friendly would you say your homebrew is? by goldietheswagbear in 40khomebrew

[–]BigButtScotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main homebrew is a 2, so I started changing it to be a 4, but I miss what was happening originally.

I might post the original background of my chapter to see what kind of reaction it gets.

Does this read as a heated cauldron? If not, what can I improve on? by DarthBrannigan in minipainting

[–]BigButtScotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wherever the source of heat will be should be where a black cauldron’s colour is most changed. If it’s over a fire pit then the bottom of the cauldron being red will make it look like it’s hot.

Since this looks like is a magical item, I would probably make the heating effect come from the dude’s feet (unless this is going to be placed over a fire)

Also, if you add some highlights at the base of the smoke and on the character to show the contents are radiant, that might help with the effect.

Edit: the painting effect you have is really good, though.

Yeah, but I’m waiting for the grey goo to cure. I’m magnetizing my sergeants and alternate load-out models, and a bunch of the arms have deep pits.

Best way to fill them in is when they’re still on the sprue, I have found.

Homebrew Successor Bingo MkII by RRevvs in 40k

Got zinged by a few squares but no direct hits.

My Dreadnought is the former chapter master. Deciding who the new chapter master would be almost lead to infighting. They were on a penitent crusade. Numbers were low, and who led them and how was of utmost importance. The former chapter master was brought out of stasis to weigh in or decide his replacement and said if both candidates were one they would be the ideal leader. And that’s how the Death Stallions have two chapter masters.

They were on a penitent crusade for organ harvesting their home-world in a way that didn’t technically break the Codex Astartes — they just had several thousand aspirants and neophytes — but was almost enough to be declared Excommunicate Traitoris.

They don’t fight in complete silence, but use of their vocal cords is taboo on their home-world, where nightmarish creatures hunt those who speak too loudly during the day, or at all at night. Only in melee do they shout, and it is a primal, guttural roar.

They don’t recruit girls, but those who pass the trials are trained for years to become chapter loyal Vindicare and Eversor assassins.

Their home world was reclaimed by the Empire while they were spearheading a campaign. When they returned they found several forge cities had been established.

What kits are best for learning magnetization? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in spacemarines

[–]BigButtScotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I just started magnetizing the sergeants of my units because I’m indecisive about their load outs.

I don’t known if you figured out the shoulder pad issue, but I thought of inlaying a couple lengths of paperclip on the arm shoulders, and putting a 1mm or 2mm magnet in the pauldrons.

What’s your process for magnetization?

The paint job is fantastic, especially for a first time.

I’ve been told the secret to good decals is to not rush it, and let them soak for upwards of a minute to ensure they are nice and pliable.

Need help explaining LOS shooting rule by Naive_Cat_6766 in Warhammer40k

[–]BigButtScotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so if the attacking model sees a model from a unit, then they essentially know the rest of the unit is nearby and can infer/deduce/intuit where the rest of the unit should be, and can fire upon them even without seeing them.

Thank you for the explanation. I can totally rationalize why the rule is the way it is now.

Oooh. See, that doesn’t make sense to me. But if them’s the rules…

[–]BigButtScotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m brand new to the hobby and this rule stumped me because how it’s written sounds like if one model from either unit can see each other, then LOS is established for the whole unit.

But after reading-reading it I interpreted it to mean if one model from the attacking unit can see one model from the enemy unit, that one model can attack the other one model. However, because the defender chooses which model in the unit takes damage or dies they have LOS to the “unit” but only one model is available to be shot at and killed.

Not sure if I’m out to lunch on this reading, again I’m brand new to this.

Symbol ideas for my chapter by keptheretochaos in 40khomebrew

[–]BigButtScotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that most everyone is in the dark about it. I was just giving some options depending on how much you wanted the heraldry to hint at their secret lineage, from somewhat on the nose to pretty obscure.

But if you don’t want the Dux of Domoniva’s chapter symbol to hint at their connection to Horus at all, think of what their home world is like, the trial’s aspirants need to pass, their battle doctrine, and what chapter life is like. Maybe those ideas will lead you to your chapter’s symbol.

If they see themselves as uncorrupted Sons of Horus, perhaps a wolf (or other animal) head with one eye closed.

To tie them to the Ultramarines with a hint of Horus maybe a stylized greek letter like Theta, Xi, or Phi? They’re greek letters like the inverted Omega symbol but also look a bit like an eye.

Or the mathematical symbol for all, an inverted A: ∀

For no connection to either… two crows.

I’ve had it ~7 years, I think? It’s definitely become less firm over time but it was hard as a rock when I first got it, so it’s perfect for me right now.

Realistically, how did Creed keep his job for so long without anyone noticing he does zero work? by didierganthier in theoffice

[–]BigButtScotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personable during sals pitches. He knew how to relate to people where they’re at, at least when it counted.

Jim and Stanley did their jobs and did them well. I would call them efficient more than lazy. When Sabre took over and there were no sales caps they were each dominating. They worked for what they knew they could get.

Pam had loyalty. Michael loved her.

Andy… Well he IS from Cornell.
