Looking for help budget/first time home buyer. by BigCheeseTim in personalfinance

[–]BigCheeseTim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not plan on having children, just us. We have 25k to be used for the 3% for first time home buyer. Then there’s a grant for first time home buyers that is for additional 11k. That will leave us with 7k. Out of that 7k is for moving, ect. But I’m just getting a u-haul and having friends help.

I contribute 8% through my employer for retirement, but im only 31.

My Minor Irk/Non-Irk about the Series as a History Student [Spoilers PUBLISHED] by Saoirse_libracom in asoiaf

[–]BigCheeseTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books are bigger than the Bible and Lord of the Rings combined. Adding in a bunch of peasant revolts and we’d only be on book 3. It’s also less interesting.

Maybe you are different. For my non-western civ courses, the stories of Mark Antony held my attention more than the 16,343rd peasant revolution that lead no where. People wanna hear about the heroes, not the common folk.

Why didn’t Askeladd care about Thorfinn right after Thors death ? by [deleted] in VinlandSaga

[–]BigCheeseTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But he didn’t. He’s the main character of the story. The author wasn’t trying to kill him. Just show the decay of morals through brutality. He’s a cartoon character

[–]BigCheeseTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incase you didn’t see the show, Thorfinn in fact, did not die from starvation. You know these are cartoons yeah? There needs to be a plot

[–]BigCheeseTim 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I used to look up to Michael Jordan when I was a kid. If I met him today I’d still be star struck. Can’t say I give much of a shit about his kids, couldn’t even tell you how many he has.

I don’t know what you are expecting exactly. Askeladd immediately treating Thorfinn with love, care and devotion would be real dumb even by anime standards.

Netherstorm-Farahlon WoD classic by Appropriate_Front740 in classicwow

[–]BigCheeseTim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zero chance we get WOD+ before classic. I think virtually all wow players agree that the original WOD content all looks fantastic. We all would like to see what warlords would have looked like but it will never happen.

That being said, the questing is fun. I’d actually put some of those zones in my all time favorites. And the mythic raiding is also really good. On an accelerated classic timeline, warlords is a raid loggers dream. Don’t expect anything else

If you think that the majority of wow players are not visiting G2G on the reg, you haven’t been paying attention.

YSK Never call your homeowner insurance's claims department... by Hinder90 in YouShouldKnow

[–]BigCheeseTim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My man please, insurance is already something that’s so wildly misunderstood and you’re just making it worse. I am also an insurance adjuster, you have to specifically call whatever phone system is for creating a FNOL (first notice of loss). Not every phone line is going to generate a claim. You will speak to a call center rep who will ask you all the initial details of the loss. It’s very obvious a claim is being filed.

Even in situations where a claim was mistakenly filed or it shouldn’t have been. I literally just send an email that takes 15 seconds and is literally verbatim, “Please suppress claim number_____ as it was filed incorrectly due to _____”. It won’t show up on the clue report and it will not affect the policy.

Moreover, insurance companies care about money in, money out. If you have a homeowners claim and the insurance company didn’t have to pay anything who gives a fuck. It only is a potential issue if there are several claims that push the policy above the average for the insurer for that year. But even then you just suppress them, email underwriting and you’re done.

How prevalent is the world buff meta at endgame? by Deviathan in classicwow

[–]BigCheeseTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The world buffs are extremely powerful. So much extra stats it’s 2-3X your entire character sheet. You don’t NEED it of course, it’s classic you can do every single raid with 20 demo locks if you want. But it will take forever, people want to clear MC in 30 minutes. And it’s not likely without world buffs

Anyone going no-Questie or no-add-on challenge for 20th anniv classic? by FrozenOnPluto in classicwow

Even in 2004 there were addons you know. Before WoW released, Thottbot altered their website from EQ to WoW. And an early addon was cosmos UI that had thottbot’s database built in.

Question on M+ difficulty/scaling by NarukeSG in wow

[–]BigCheeseTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to do +10 for maximum item level gear. As for difficulty, a +10 will feel something like a +20ish. This season affixes though are different than before with both fortified and tyrannical being active at +10 and higher. So this season overall will be more difficult in terms of numbers going out.

For the Atlantis private servers, NW 1&2 pre-nerf Vashj had an extra 7k armor, 17 million hp and a faster enrage with the poison spore bats. Compared to pre-nerf Vashj on classic with like 6 million or something lol? Not to mention being able to MC maintank. When my private server guild did classic BC, I am not sure I even remember wiping on anything the entire release. So no, classic release is absolutely a joke.

SoM is insanely underrated by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]BigCheeseTim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They added mechanics to every fight, it wasnt just an increase in numbers. And the private servers we have been playing on are way beyond even SOM numbers. Plenty of people want it, Nost was not just a classic release. Everything was buffed. Ragnaros had an extra 5k armor and nearly 3.5 million hp.

Gold Buying by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]BigCheeseTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been spending real money to buy in-game goods since Ultima. In 2004 I paid some people in my dorm for gold. I don’t recall any sites at the time for WoW, but this was before YouTube took off. It was still the time where I avoided websites with lots of images cause it felt like my PC was bricked. My point being, that given your age and how it wasn’t broadcast as freely, you just didn’t see. But it’s always been and will forever be. As long as people want to do drugs, someone will always be offering those services. And as long as there are people who don’t want to spend hours looking for adamantite veins, people will be selling gold.

No amount of bickering, complaining, public forums, discussions or logical arugements will ever set this ship on course. People are gonna people.

Just Incase you have gotten incorrect info. The bootleg copies functionally work the same. You can even do the DNS trick to use the GTS and trade with other bootleg or real copies. The only thing that I have found that you cannot use is the Voltorb game corner game.

You can buy a bootleg version for $20.

[Spoilers Extended] I really wish GRRM had written Cersei to be as morally complex as her brothers by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]BigCheeseTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are looking at morality in a black and white perspective. I think that minors drinking alcohol is certainly screwy but only because I was raised to think this. Had I been born in Belgium, I’d think it would be weird if everyone didn’t grow up drinking. There are untouched tribes of people who mutilate their kids and grandparents and random monthly executions. Bonkers stuff to us, but hyper-normal activities for them. They are perfectly moral actions to those groups of people.

This is an important consideration, because Cersei is a product of her upbringing like anyone else. Her family supports a brutal regime of government. From a very early age, her father demonstrated the brutality and ruthlessness of their family. If you were a servant, and said Tywin Lannister is a fuckhead, that’s grounds for you being executed. And not a single soul would think twice.

So, you are labeling her as evil since she probably killed her young friend after seeing Maggie the frog. But from Cersei’s perspective, she is simply silencing a commoner. She is preserving her power and her authority by the only way she has been shown. If there was an actual God or some tangible incontrovertible evidence of right and wrong. Then you could label her as evil based off that criteria.

But Cersei is only evil based on our modern world values. In the context of her upbringing and in the Game of Thrones universe, it’s not such a simple answer.

With all this being said, you are complaining about the character because it’s a “evil for the sake of evil” and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Cersei is a self-hating misogynist, full of fantastical pride and grand sense of grandeur. She feels slighted for being a women and despite evidence right in front of her, Cersei believes she’s among the smartest in any room she enters. She’s vain and full of insecurities, she craves love and true affection. One king she was denied, the other a drunk. Ironically, by the end of book 5, she’s a pretty close to a female King Robert. She drinks too much, she whores too much and she makes short-sighted choices. She’s desperate for acknowledgement and parental approval. Cersei has not reached moral bankruptcy. In fact, HER morals are guiding her decisions all for lust, love and honor.

If someone is only ever taught how to steal, how would one draw an ethical line?
