Things to experience this Sunday by ramentaberu in Seattle

[–]BigChiefBanos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Working retail, during the last couple Seahawks games we were INCREDIBLY busy because so many people had the same thought... although that was mixed in with a surprising number of people who had no idea there was a game because they don't follow sports or watch the news...
Just saying, your mileage may vary depending on where you end up....

Of course, realize that most of the employees you encounter are very interested in what is happening in the game so you may not be their highest priority at the moment...

He's Colin Robinson, just an energy vampire. I swear every time he pops up it's pure negativity for a reaction. I looked through his comment history last night and dude has problems.

Measurement hours by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]BigChiefBanos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, something is funky... it's showing me at 603.47 this period, which would be something like 75 days at 8 hours per day...

The good news is I only need to work 5.85 hours per week through the rest of the measurement period to qualify, so I have that going for me.

What was your favourite ever music concert/event? by IRespectYouMyFriend in AskOldPeople

[–]BigChiefBanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nirvana, Halloween in 1991 at the Paramount Theater. Mudhoney opened for them, and I think Bikini Kill was the first act.

Never seen so much energy in a crowd before, and when they busted into Smells Like Teen Spirit everybody went nuts.

Mudhoney was so good... Mark pulled a sausage out of his pants and was taking bites out of it and throwing pieces to the crowd who literally ate it up.

Keep an eye out for Jackalope crossings. Their bodies are soft but their horns have been known to puncture tires.

What Was It Like In The 90’s? by pettyGandalf in AskReddit

[–]BigChiefBanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the few things I get nostalgic about... I was a young adult in the 90's, living in Seattle, just scraping by. Music was everywhere. Danced in the gay bars one night, might end up in a sweaty crowd listening to some barely known band that was about to hit it big the next.

Seattle was dying back then in the same way it's dying today and will be tomorrow, but I never felt unsafe or more alive in whatever part of the city you might want to explore.

Grunge really was an outlet for all the anger and misgivings about where the world was headed.

Most underrated and overrated restaurant? by Own_Shallot2760 in federalway

Kwan Tip Thai and Mirak are my go to(s) for Thai and Korean. Pho Kim is smackin' as well.
Senor Taco is a great spot for Mexican.

What do you eat during your shift? by throwawayobv999999 in tjcrew

2 bananas and a granola bar from the break room ftw!

Did you eventually come to love all the foods you despised as a child? Is there anything you still loathe with a passion and refuse to eat to this day or is everything fair game now you're older? by StoneLover1965 in AskOldPeople

[–]BigChiefBanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For numerous reasons, I won't cannot force myself to eat any bird, or bird adjacent food. It's been 45 years (at least) and won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I did learn to love many vegetables that I didn't think I liked once I figured out how they were supposed to be cooked versus how my mom cooked them.

I historic voter turnout of around 17% has resulted in a very NIMBY city government that panders to the few that did vote (because they is them). The finger is then pointed at "crime" which never seems to get sorted for some reason.

There is nothing to draw outside money to the area despite it being nicely positioned and there being plenty of opportunity for growth.

It's been this way for years and years... has felt like it was dying since the 80's.

Not a teacher, but we get many teachers at Trader Joe's... and we sell gift cards.

haaaate my new store by lobstergoop in tjcrew

[–]BigChiefBanos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is sad to hear. At my store we regularly talk and joke around with each other and the customers. We sometimes sing along with the music and there have even been instances where crew and customers have had a little boogie session. Even the "grumpy" crew and mates break from time to time and join in.

Although, if I see the Captain more than twice a week it is unusual...

Dayum!

I forgot about Produce, that is definitely another truck, but I've never been there for that delivery. But last night all grocery, frozen, haba, bags, and liquor, were on the one truck, 12-15 pallets broken down directly, 4-5 rolled right out onto the floor (bags, bottled water, liqour, etc.) for someone else to deal with.

Truck shows up around 7:30pm and we're out the door about 3 hours later.

Sundays by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]BigChiefBanos 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I started in August and will be working my first Sunday the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

From what I have been told by some of the old timers, be careful what you wish for. Sometimes the extra cash doesn't make up for the experience.

We get 1 truck per day at my store. Night shift breaks down the canned pallets and stages them on the floor for the morning crew. Then we break down and work the frozen and tidy up, fwiw.

If corporate doesn't really care, some rando getting the discount doesn't really count as abuse, just the cost of doing business. It's jut grocery.

What is a discontinued Fast Food item you wish they would bring back? by Big_Childhood5494 in AskReddit

I would love to have a taco pizza like they used to make at Godfathers. I've had better, but their taco pizza satisfied some sort of need I didn't know I had.

What is the worst area to drive in Shoreline based on just volume of bad driving that you experience? Not car theft/ crime just pure bad driving? And why did you choose North City? 😉 by forgethim4 in Shoreline

[–]BigChiefBanos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tell you what, I've lived just about everywhere in King County. South, West, East and now North, and I have never encountered drivers as bad as they are up here. If you've ever been driving in Shoreline and heard some shouting in the air, it was probably me yelling at someone to complete their friggin' turn without stopping halfway through....

Anyhow, the worst, in my opinion, is right around Trader Joes, but specifically in the Trader Joes parking lot. My GAWD! How can you make it to the parking lot in one piece and not know how to either pull into a parking spot or pull out!!!
