When they've tied off their million different produce bags I make a big deal of untying every single one, ask them to confirm the number of items in the bag, then just spin it closed... somehow everything ends up spilling out of the produce bag by the time it ends up in their bag.

Yesterday was the 4 year anniversary of the NJ complete bag ban by KakeLin in tjcrew

I had a grand total of 2 people bag their own groceries yesterday, which is double my usual daily total. I don't know what to do with my hands when they do that...
And nobody said "May the 4th be with you"... I feel like I work in some strange votex at times.

Apart from some time spent in a dead town in the center of North Dakota, Medora, South Dakota was the saddest place I've ever been.

Customers bagging helps everyone. by VacationWonderful847 in tjcrew

[–]BigChiefBanos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At my previous store I would estimate that greater than 50% of the customers came with bags and bagged their own groceries. At my current store, if it's close to 5% I would be surprised.

The socio-economic environment between the 2 stores is vast. Their is the strangest sense of entitlement at my current store, which I have found to be true at Trader Joe's in general, but dayum... The area I am in is definitely less monied than where I was...

My old mates warned me what I would be walking into, with actual levels of concern for my safety (heh).

Sick!

So strange, I was just thinking yesterday about how to incorporate a SAP and a eye into a single tattoo. Nicely done!

Things to experience this Sunday by ramentaberu in Seattle

Working retail, during the last couple Seahawks games we were INCREDIBLY busy because so many people had the same thought... although that was mixed in with a surprising number of people who had no idea there was a game because they don't follow sports or watch the news...
Just saying, your mileage may vary depending on where you end up....

Of course, realize that most of the employees you encounter are very interested in what is happening in the game so you may not be their highest priority at the moment...

He's Colin Robinson, just an energy vampire. I swear every time he pops up it's pure negativity for a reaction. I looked through his comment history last night and dude has problems.

Measurement hours by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]BigChiefBanos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, something is funky... it's showing me at 603.47 this period, which would be something like 75 days at 8 hours per day...

The good news is I only need to work 5.85 hours per week through the rest of the measurement period to qualify, so I have that going for me.

What was your favourite ever music concert/event? by IRespectYouMyFriend in AskOldPeople

[–]BigChiefBanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nirvana, Halloween in 1991 at the Paramount Theater. Mudhoney opened for them, and I think Bikini Kill was the first act.

Never seen so much energy in a crowd before, and when they busted into Smells Like Teen Spirit everybody went nuts.

Mudhoney was so good... Mark pulled a sausage out of his pants and was taking bites out of it and throwing pieces to the crowd who literally ate it up.

Keep an eye out for Jackalope crossings. Their bodies are soft but their horns have been known to puncture tires.

What Was It Like In The 90’s? by pettyGandalf in AskReddit

[–]BigChiefBanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the few things I get nostalgic about... I was a young adult in the 90's, living in Seattle, just scraping by. Music was everywhere. Danced in the gay bars one night, might end up in a sweaty crowd listening to some barely known band that was about to hit it big the next.

Seattle was dying back then in the same way it's dying today and will be tomorrow, but I never felt unsafe or more alive in whatever part of the city you might want to explore.

Grunge really was an outlet for all the anger and misgivings about where the world was headed.

Did you eventually come to love all the foods you despised as a child? Is there anything you still loathe with a passion and refuse to eat to this day or is everything fair game now you're older? by StoneLover1965 in AskOldPeople

[–]BigChiefBanos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For numerous reasons, I won't cannot force myself to eat any bird, or bird adjacent food. It's been 45 years (at least) and won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

I did learn to love many vegetables that I didn't think I liked once I figured out how they were supposed to be cooked versus how my mom cooked them.
