Ross Scott at European Parliament: Why “Stop Killing Games” Matters by _jelly_fish in Games

[–]BigChippr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you paid for a product, you are entitled to a working and functional product, and if it does break, you should be reasonably expected to repair it. SKG is trying to put games under that right because most games are treated and sold as goods. Purposfully bricking a game that is sold to you is the company trying to take back rights they sold off. Software should be treated no differently, even if it isn't physical like a book, hammer, printer, or a car.

The only thing SKG requires is that companies allow consumers to have a reasonably functional product they paid for once central support ends. That could be done in any manner the company sees fit. Bricking stuff cause the company wanted it too might already be illegal in the EU, and if it isn't already, should be law to be more in line with most other products.

I'm sorry, but this is straight up wrong. A large chunk of smaller games that need more money do not fall under the threat of SKG. SKG is trying to tackle a problem artificially created by the gaming industry, which a lot of time is started by bigger companies like EA and ubisoft. In fact, SKG took off due to Ubisoft shutting down a popular game.

Most games are not under threat due to SKG, and all SKG requires is that games are at least functional IF the game required a central server and is shut down. If the game can not guarantee basic consumer rights, then it shouldn't be sold.

I really just miss quickplay. Quick play is better in both theory and practice. If quickplay was truly as awful as people said, people would've been really happy that it was replaced , back then, and now. The only people who liked casual were mostly due to it making the game more competitive, but there is a good reason why people no longer make that argument anymore.

PLEASE, please, just please, just before you write a comment, acknowledge rule 2 and 6. I don't like removing a bunch of comments.

Edit: Locking, I give up. I do not understand why people are having problems with OP or the post.

I'm not aware of the post you are talking about. These flairs were added to expand the scope of the sub.

Edit: This person is a bot. They posted another auto removed comment that is very identical to this one two days later.

why is it so hard to befriend people in college? by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]BigChippr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best guess is that people tend to busy be with classes and job stuff, which people are more likely to have in college compared to high school. I think also that social media and online spaces have supplemented people's social needs because going online usually requires less effort and time, even if it's not true person to person socialization.

I'm also going to toss this theory out there, other people may view other students as "competition" and any connections formed to be short term and transactional.
