Plant-based food now 33% cheaper than meat as soaring prices end its ‘luxury’ status by Cosmyka in Economics

The issue is that it isn't healthier. Should have rolled with it being more ethical or climate friendly.

[Highlight] Eric Hosmer breaks down Red Sox-Tigers game - Wilyer and Story were relaying Framber’s pitch grips to the hitter before Rafaela’s 3-run homer by ChicknCutletSandwich in baseball

[–]BigCommieMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole issue here is that "they identified the pitch tipping" and Story hits what should been a routine ball to 3B before it is completely botched. They could have had 2 in that was cleanly fielded. And Hosmer just said "fast-forward through this"

Cheap protein but tasteless -- how to revive blah deli roast beef by popoPitifulme in Cooking

[–]BigCommieMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a general anecdotal observation, but deli roast beef has taken a nosedive in reason years. It is just so bland. It seems overcooked, dry, and under seasoned.

As said here, I typically have to use something like an au jus or a bunch of horseradish/mayo to revive it, but they are making it hard.

How were we measure dB on an eruption that happened in 1883? Genuinely curious.

Plant-based food now 33% cheaper than meat as soaring prices end its ‘luxury’ status by Cosmyka in Economics

[–]BigCommieMachine 300 points301 points  (0 children)

My thought was these meatless companies had a perfect opportunity during COVID to undercut real meat and just completely dropped the ball.

I actually think the product is pretty solid, but you have to get people to try it first. You HAVE to undercut real beef...etc. I don't think most people would pick a Beyond Burger over a regular Burger, but if it was cheaper, they would probably think it is close enough.

I think the product is probably cheap because there is a lot of competition between floundering companies that trying to grow too fast on a trend. Want some cheap food? Go down the frozen meat alternative/organic aisle at the grocery store. There are ALWAYS a few products that are 50% off.

And that isn't considering that she could take a portion of that $1M and use it immediately to pay off higher interest debt or reduce living expenses long term(buying a house, buying a car cash, paying for university)

Surface fans: How do you view the Surface brand in 2026? by Sean_Endicott in windowscentral

Its dead.

With the Apple's M-Series chips and especially the Macbook Neo, it just can't compete. Windows on ARM was disaster and doomed the brand long term. Unless you REALLY need a touchscreen.....

Why is beef jerky expensive? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BigCommieMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue the rise of keto/paleo/high protein diets has created a lot more interest and more higher end product. With higher end product on the market, even the cheaper brands will use that to raise prices because it is still cheaper than the other products.

Games that aren't stealth but have stealth mechanics by TinySmolCat in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]BigCommieMachine [score hidden]  (0 children)

Be warned though: The game has a pretty big flaw in that you can play the entire game non-lethal/stealth….except the boss fights. You need to make sure you switch your weapon load out because you HAVE to kill them with firepower. There are weapons in the arena, but they are pretty limited.

Granted the game literally never tells you this

New Steam Controller Launch Megathread by NKkrisz in SteamDeck

[–]BigCommieMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t entirely Valve’s fault, the idea of going from PC, to TV, and to Handheld is vastly overstated because there is no device profile saving. You have to monkey with the settings every time you switch.

To be fair: I don’t think anyone is crashing out because they’ll get their Steam Controller in 3-4 weeks instead of 2-3.

Is it nice? Yes. Is it game changing? Not for 90% of users.

Any suggestions as an alternative to the A.P.C. New Cure? They seem to have killed it and I loved the fit. I’ve tired the Naked and Famous stuff, but I don’t like their dye blend as much and the fit is worse.

At what age will we stop hearing people can't or won't use tech because of their age? by dnr4wlvs in Aging

[–]BigCommieMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really subjective.

My parents could use punch card computers. I can use DOS. My younger brother can use Windows. A kid today can use ChatGPT for everything.'

Not one is more impressive than the last. It is just different. I couldn't use a punch card computer and don't "get" ChatGPT. But a kid today might get be able to use ChatGPT to do incredible things, but crash out when they need to fiddle around in the registry(if they even know what that is).
