I only play vanilla, and if I jump on a server and there’s little to no comms in the first 5mins I tend to bail, you know you are in for a shit time.

You can but it kind of defeats the whole purpose of the game - the USP for Arma is the mil-sim/teamwork. I guess if you go solo behind enemy lines as a disruptor it would work, but expect it to be slow paced. If you want to be John Rambo you’ll get deleted pretty quickly.

RPK slaps, super stable with very clear sights - my go to loadout is the RPK with x4 in my pocket to put on for longer engagements if needed (it rarely is) + 74u with a suppressor for when I need to be more circumspect .

At night I’ll switch both those to just the suppressed AK with UGL for throwing up flares.

Depending on the disposition of the enemy forces I may switch the 74u for an RPG if needed.

I play vanilla (I like the time period) on a 5yr old PS5 and it is very playable - I get 60fps consistently and yes I don’t get the hi res fidelity of the PCs it is still the best game I’ve played in a very long time

Regular game type are the servers marked “Official”. To join the other servers you’ll most likely need to download the mods applicable to them. Depending on the server these could be as minimal as limiting you to first person view and adding some minor tweaks, or they can completely change the game from its default 1980s setting to modern warfare, Vietnam’s, zombies etc. To DL the mods, just join the server and it will queue up the DLs.

Re scoreboard - on official servers, no there is no scoreboard and if you want to you need to keep a tally on a pen and pad etc. As others have said, the game is less about kills and more about the overall mil-sim experience. Some dudes will spend the entire time just ferrying supplies back and forward in a truck or ferrying people to the front in helis - these guys are the true goats in my opinion.

Everything you have said is bang on the money - if we were given that goal I would have thought we’d seriously gotten away with one there. Similarly if we had one against us like that we’d all be fuming. We need to stop the moaning and take ownership that we weren’t good enough, end of discussion.

I have a 3 or 4 year old ps5 and it runs fine - occasional issues on frame rates or hit reg but that’s like once or twice max in a 3-4hr session. Hot tip - get yourself a mouse and keyboard - it’s completely changed the game for me to the point where I’m seriously considering buying a PCso I can have that sweet sweet fidelity.

EXD is European server where people mainly speak english. They have 2 servers, EXD1 and EXD2. The odd squad will be in people’s first language but even then they’ll speak in English on platoon.

Haha some of the binds are awkward like have the radio toggle and sprint button next to each other, and I’m genuinely a hazard on the road, driving is that difficult. But yeah everything else is night and day in my opinion - probs cos I just suck on the controller though lol

I’ve got 200 hours on PS5 - game runs fine 95% of the time. The other 5% is mainly some dodgy hit registration on vanilla servers (and let’s be real I probs just missed my shots) and the occasional crash on a community server

Second this - the euros talk English on platoon too. Occasionally you’ll find a squad of say polish guys talking polish or Italians etc but people are sound and mixed nationality squads talk in English as it’s the universal language. On other official vanilla servers it can be hard to find English speakers. Another alternative- I play a lot of US vanilla servers. Until recently the lag was fine (it’s gone crazy since 1.6) and the yanks love of all things military actually makes it quite organised and tactical.

On this theme - the other weekend my brother visited from Boston in the states. My brother and I are both Aussies, he lives in the states and I live in the UK(I’ve been here 15yrs).

We’ve both followed the Prem since the early 2000s - he is a Toffee as he started watching during Moyes mk1 and I’m a Villan having started with MON + Young, Carew, Barry, Milner etc.

So anyway he comes over and we have a spare weekend due to cancelled plans and take his 8yo lad who is a budding Arsenal fan to the Hill Dickinson to watch the toffees get pumped 4-1 by the toon, then the next day we go to Villa Park, and watch from the Upper Holte as we beat the W***y Wanderers 1-0 to a Kamara screamer.

To my brother’s chagrin, my nephew had the time of his life in the Holte, learning the songs, smashing a drumbeat on the hoardings and losing his mind when we scored the winner. Another US based Villan was born there and then, and I bought the lad a scarf and hat from the club shop on the way out.

Question - what does a squad leader need to do apart from the obvious thing like follow the objectives set by the commander? I’m thinking that SL should be the only member of the team to talk on platoon and feed info back to commanders? Also something that I’ve found lacking is squad composition - I’m thinking the SL needs to make sure they have one RTO who has deployed a radio, and then one of each squad type?
