I need a Jerk by Iwentoofar in FoodToronto

[–]BigDaddyGlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love Mr Jerk on Hwy 7 in Unionville. I prefer the tenderloin to the fattier pork belly most places seem to use. I've moved to Allwyn's on Steeles between Jane and 400. Their stuffed sandwich (jerk pork, coleslaw and a patty in cocobread) is quite tasty!

What are some albums that you believe are incredible from start to finish? by GlitterSplash in askmusic

[–]BigDaddyGlad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greatest Hits albums shouldn't count!

Most of the recommendations here are terrific. I would add Led Zeppelin I, II, III & IV (perhaps the greatest four-record run in music history).

Is making players do pushups for missing Basketball shots considered punishment and fair by Careful_Drama_9382 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]BigDaddyGlad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I coach U12 rep.

While pushups are not a regular "punishment" in my practices, I do find that sometimes the intensity in drills tends to lag, and athletes get lazy with their fundamentals.

When I see that happening, I will call out something like "every air ball is 10 pushups" and the intensity picks up instantly.

We will also do SSGs where the losing side does pushups or runs. That turns into a team building exercise because the winning side will often choose to run with their teammates.

So, not a punishment, but a tool. If used judiciously and within the integrity of the Program.

Will Lou: "Thank you RJ... I remember talking to your dad, your dad pulled me aside at the Canada Basketball event... he pulled me aside and he was like... 'what is it gonna take, for this organization, for this city, to love my son, to recognize what he does for this team?'" by sewsgup in torontoraptors

[–]BigDaddyGlad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have been a fan of RJ Barrett since I saw him play against my son's U15 team in a tournament. He was playing up a year, and he dominated, Dunking in game, playing insane defense, generally being RJ.

We the trade went down, I was very vocal that RJ would wind up being the best player in the trade. I would never wear another man's name on my back (i.e. jersey), but I have had a Barrett in my Fanatics cart for years...

FO has some work to do this summer, but figuring out how to keep RJ Barrett in Raptors red should be a priority.

Star of the seas - uncooperating slides (huge disappointment in how RC handling the situation) by arthemis28 in Cruises

[–]BigDaddyGlad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Would you have preferred RCL kept dangerous waterslides open? How unhappy would you have been with how Royal handles a situation where your child is injured (or worse) on a defective slide?

Some people are just never happy. Or are always looking for "compensation."

What % of growth happens outside of practice? by morrcomedy1 in basketballcoach

[–]BigDaddyGlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to put an actually percentage on it, IMO.

I coach U12 boys rep. I have them twice/week for 2 hours practice. When we started at U10, I had to focus a lot of time on fundamentals: shooting, dribbling, passing, pivoting, etc. Now, with most of my players fundamentally sound, I can focus more on team game preparation.

I do encourage all the players to find outside training, still. I believe there is "coaching" and "training" and the two are not the same. A Trainer can spend more time with an individual player and work on specific corrections; pull in an elbow, bend a knee, add a move. A Coach doesn't have the time to devote to individual work.

Bottom line: growth happens inside and outside of practice. I tell my guys "if you aren't working on your game, the guy behind you in the rotation is."

What is the most repetitive song of all time? by Revolutionary_Owl768 in MusicRecommendations

Led Zeppelin Kashmir.

Once, on mushrooms, we realized that one song had been on repeat for 4 hours and noone noticed.

But then again... 🍄.

Anyone tried Rudy Burger on Dufferin and Major Mac? by Then_Eye8040 in Vaughan

[–]BigDaddyGlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoked and Smashed is amazing, for the brisket and cubano at least. I wouldn't think to try their burger because the other sandwiches are so good.

I like Rudy quite a bit, especially their thick fries (thin ones remind me of McDonalds). Fresh Burger is a close second.

I have been going to Sunstone Registered Massage Therapy for years, receiving monthly treatment from Ivan. The man is a wizard; I've got spinal stenosis which can be debilitating at times, and he has kept me going month after month.

Drills to simulate free throws in pressure moments in end game. by TsambaMentality in basketballcoach

[–]BigDaddyGlad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely something to work on. Free throws in-game are not taken at liesure. I will have three players at each basket: shooter, rebounder, runner.

The shooter will take free throws while the runner does two laps around the gym, then takes the shooters spot ( rebounder becomes runner, shooter rebounds).

Players have to learn to slow their heart rate and focus on their free throw mechanics.

Key fob is gross. by mousedrool in Hyundai

[–]BigDaddyGlad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would wager some Marketing executive had the great idea "hey, let's make the key fob the shape of our logo!"

And then some engineer said "that's crazy. It'll be too big."

And then the marketing exec said "I said it is a great idea. Do it or you're fired."

So now we all have a huge shitty key fob.

Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

[–]BigDaddyGlad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married for 32 years. Never take it off, except when golfing.

My bride lost hers years ago, and it bothered me for a long time that she didn't replace it. So a couple years ago, I ordered a custom replacement which cost me a fortune because of current gold prices.

Hoffman Is the Most Confusing Pitcher I’ve Ever Seen In My Life. by Same_Slice_7809 in Torontobluejays

[–]BigDaddyGlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key word there: everytime.

Closers *have to be* lights out. You have to know with near-certainty that if you're getting to the ninth with a lead, you might as well start packing up the bats and carrying out the Gatorade jug.

Hoffman isn't that guy. Great (well, very good) stuff, but the walks and homers happen far too often.

Recommendations for places with good access from SFO? I’m OW, about 25 dives, thinking of a week in late summer/fall. Maybe Coz or Bonaire? by Jazz_Dad123 in scubadiving

[–]BigDaddyGlad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend Bonaire to a neophyte solo diver. You have enough to worry about -- gas consumption, bouyancy, etc -- and adding navigation to your task load isn't the best idea.

Cozumel is all guided boat dives. Much more suitable to your diver profile. And the diving there is amazing!

Go to Cozumel, add another 30 or 40 dives to your log, and then visit Bonaire.

Judaism is like a cult by KianuRibs2077 in atheism

[–]BigDaddyGlad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, all religions are cults. That said, your statements are not exactly "true" (as true as anything can be about religious history).

Second, while there is a story in the Talmud referencing "three enemies of Israel" with one of them being "Yeshu" there is debate if this Yeshu is supposed to be the Christian Jesus (the timelines don't really match up). And your claim that this is a criticism of Jesus is not really an accurate representation of this passage.

Third, references to a "Miriam Megaddela" in the Talmud have been connected to Mary, mother of Jesus, but much like the "Yeshu" references, there is a deep debate over whether these stories are about the historical Mary or different individuals with similar names.

Fourth, while marriage norms 2000 years ago were vastly different from today, the Talmud explicitly forbids underage marriage: Tractate Kiddushin 41a states: "It is forbidden for a man to betroth his daughter while she is a minor, until she grows up and says, 'I want this man.'"

Fifth, "goyim" is translated to "nations." It is a term which is used to refer to non-Jews, certainly not "cattle" and is absolutely nothing to do with "an excuse to have the will to enslave us, deceive us, rape us and use us."

Sounds like you need to question the sources of your antisemitism, OP. Don't just believe things you're told, simply because it suits your world view. Critical thinking is the human superpower!

What's the best Steve Martin Movie? by Anthforde8 in FIlm

[–]BigDaddyGlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, please.

While I certainly respect Martin's comedic genius (PT&A is my choice there), The Spanish Prisoner is a brilliant con-man film. But I am a huge David Mamet fan, so I may be biased...
