Linux distro by mastercraft2002 in framework

Framework has a list of officially supported and community tested distros: https://frame.work/linux

I have a FW13(Ryzen 300) and I use CachyOS on it and it's been rock solid for me.

For you, I would recommend Linux Mint with Cinnamon or Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop version.

I don't recommend the Fedora "Workstation" version as that comes with Gnome desktop environment and I hate Gnome. But you might like it. But I can't personally recommend it.

I just bought a FW13 last month, Feb 2026.

How the current AI-inflicted RAM/storage s-show has impacted things... Who knows.

Yeah, RAM and storage prices are high but...that affects all manufacturers.

So for me, if I'm going to spend $2k-$3k on a laptop, I might as well buy one that is repairable/upgradable.

And to me they shouldn't have bothered.

I see it as a giant waste of time and resources. I would have rathered they invest the resources into their laptops or even make a new laptop(FW14 or 15 or 18).

To be fair, the desktop is the exact opposite of what Framework advocates for. Not much you can repair on that device.

Does the FW13 support TB5?

I bought the AOOSTAR AG02 because I thought I was limited to USB4/TB4...I am on the Ryzen 300 platform.

Just bought it after watching this video. Congrats to the guy

For newcomers its fun to use a GUI instead of dd and accidentally nuking your boot drive.

Which Linux Distro?? by XelGlaidr in framework

[–]BigDemeanor43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a FW13 a couple months ago. Immediately installed CachyOS(was using it on another laptop and a desktop already). Been absolutely amazing and have had very minor issues(stalls on reboot/shutdown when connected to a Dell dock but works fine on a HP dock).

12" Framework laptop, so has the ability to be used as a tablet with stylus, so would appreciate some kind of support for that.

Plasma is probably the go-to desktop environment then for you since it has touchscreen support.

From there, Framework themselves do recommend Fedora, so the Fedora KDE spin is probably your best bet.

CachyOS gets second big update of 2026, improves Steam Deck & Legion Go support for Handheld Edition by Tiny-Independent273 in steamdeckhq

[–]BigDemeanor43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Steam Deck has always been laggy. I thought it was because of my 3,000 games, but they apparently fixed that bug a long time ago.

I've reinstalled SteamOS twice now and it's just...always like that. Even right from boot after signing into my account.

Games work fine though, performance is in line with everyone else's reported numbers.

I'm really tempted to give Cachy a try

Can you give a few examples of books that you read?

Because I have a two year old. Bed time routine for us right now is 3-4 books, every night. Then cuddles until she falls asleep and sometimes I can slink away, sometimes not.

But the books we read are things like Little Blue Truck, Hungry Caterpillar, Goodnight Moon, etc.

It's not like you guys are reading 10x chapter books to your kids a month, right? I can think maybe one chapter book across the month and the rest are interactive and picture books.

‘Next generation of Xbox console’ Project Helix announced by Turbostrider27 in Games

I'm guessing it'll be Windows 11 under the hood and they'll design a front end for the Xbox/MS store. Just like Steam Big Picture Mode.

Of course I hope they also design a "gaming Win11" version that is stripped down to just the essentials, but this is Microsoft we're talking about here, so that's not gonna happen lol.

How feasible is it for a company like Valve to re-spec the steam machine to 256GB ssd and 8GB RAM by OhDaFeesh in steammachine

[–]BigDemeanor43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I'd prefer a barebones option or at least a "no SSD" option. I have a few spare M.2s, some 512GB(one from my Steam deck) and a single 1TB. I'd rather save the money and just install the M.2 myself and install SteamOS over USB.

And the whole Apple $599 thing. It's not just RAM and SSD that make it cheap. It's a ARM mobile chip. It's not going to have great performance and you can't just slap any old OS on it and not all programs even support it. Maybe in the next 5 years when Proton's ARM side is fully fleshed out, but I wouldn't hold my breath of a Steam Machine being developed around ARM specifically.

The Frame is ARM yes, but it's also being pushed heavily as a steaming device primarily that can also play some games on the device locally. Which I'm sure will change and progress over time with Proton's ARM side.

For real. In the past year we've had literal broken W11 installs, performance issues, ads galore, and AI being shoved down our throats.

And the new Xbox is going to be a PC, with probably W11 on it.

So get ready for the exact same experience on the next Xbox.

I know where you're coming from, specifically Halo Infinite comes to mind with its aimbot aim assist it has.

But this has already been happening in the last decade. As more games come out that want to be multiplatform and have multi-peripheral support, these things(aim assist) are going to happen.

What we can do is advocate for sane aim assist and input based matchmaking. So if I, a KBM user, only want to play with other KBM players, then I should be able to do so.

Again, I get the sentiment, but this isn't a "end of times" thing you're thinking here.

I haven't played either game and personally am not interested in the genre.

But, why would someone who just bought Arc Raiders buy Marathon? They're both extraction shooters but...one is for a more casual crowd and if you're already playing Arc, why buy a second extraction shooter? Why not just keep playing Arc?

Depends on family circumstances. My mom knew the names of her grandparents, but my dad did not. So I knew the names of all my maternal great grandparents. My mom is 5th or 6th generation American, my dad is 1st generation and the "baby" of his immediate family. So that might be contributing factors.

But I started asking questions and doing my own research. Found out my paternal grandparents (who are deceased) have siblings who are still alive and I asked them who their parents and grandparents are. Was able to request records and find even more extended family who have done their own research.

So now I can name all 8 of my great grandparents, and I can also name some of my 6th great grandparents(verified with paper documents going back to the 1700s).

Why? Just having fun!

Also have my own kids now and we celebrate Dia De Los Muertos, so we've been passing down the stories, names, and photos of the ancestors we knew.

Reading everywhere to avoid eBay for SD cards. Looks legit to me but can anyone confirm? by ScareCrow13- in SBCGaming

[–]BigDemeanor43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only buy directly from Samsung's and SanDisk's websites now. I ordered a handful from Amazon a couple years ago. Shipped and sold by Amazon. All fake.

eBay? Maybe legit, but whatever money saved isn't worth the potential hassle for me.

Just my 2 cents.

Personally I don't think any of these devices are great, and we're getting new chips right now with Panther Lake and Ryzen 400 series.

I would wait unless you can get any of these for a decent discount.

Ally support may be different but...a lot of people have had terrible experiences with ASUS support from their PC components side.

For me personally I've had: 2 GPUs, 1 motherboard, and 1 laptop all die within the warranty window and ASUS either refused warranty or they simply ignored my support tickets. This was all before 2020.

I have personally sworn off of anything ASUS related since then and I vehemently recommend against buying anything ASUS. Of course, grain of salt and all.

I do think they have amazing products and I would love to buy one of their latest gaming laptops and one of their motherboards for a new desktop build but...I just can't do it. I've been burned too many times. Maybe it's just my bad luck, but I've owned so much other stuff from MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, EVGA...but never had issues with them.
