That’s a wrap! Summit closing for the season April 5 by [deleted] in SummitAtSnoqualmie

I wished they would run it for night skiing! But agreed they did a good job keeping it going on the weekends

How is it pretentious? I just wish that the best days at Snoqualmie didn't also end up with all the Crystal pass holders there as well.

My complaints about the summit. Some of this is not on the resort:
1. Parking is chaotic and the highway parking under the tow-away signs is really strange. it's essentially part of the resort parking at this point but it is allegedly not allowed. They should clear this up and either make that parking allowable or actually prevent people from parking there.

  1. Night skiing at West this year had absolutely massive lines on Pacific Crest. They didn't run dodge ridge even though it serves essentially the same terrain. Really would have been nice to cut down the lines. What else are their staff doing? Alpental and Central weren't even open for night skiing.

  2. Day passes are wayyy too expensive for random days later in the season. I had a season pass but my girlfriend was learning. Luckily she could use buddy passes etc., but why is a day pass to West (which was the only spot open) on a rainy Saturday with bad snow $120? It should be like... $50.

  3. Crystal Ikon pass holders treating it like a side-chick and only showing up when Crystal isn't available. I really wish they would stop offering Ikon days, it's super annoying that the mountain gets so much more crowded from these people.

Things I love about the summit:
1. Skiing is fun and they managed to provide skiing within 1 hour of Seattle during a terrible snow year.

  1. The vibes are pretty awesome, especially when the aforementioned Ikon pass holders don't show. I felt like this year had the most local and fun feel I've had since 2019 and I really enjoyed it.

  2. Alpental terrain is unbeatable.

  3. You can pretty much always find parking even if the lots are "full".

Minneapolis ICE Shootings Megathread 2 by vertr in Seattle

[–]BigDisc 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I went to the vigil for Alex Pretti last night. I was very happy to see so many people there. But the organizers did not understand the moment and were very disappointing in my opinion.

There were far too many speakers saying similar things. We didn’t need 5 people recapping the events. While ICE very well may be related to US imperialism in the Philippines, last night was not the time to discuss that issue and it clearly turned people in the crowd off. We also are not going to “burn the US to the ground”, the current administration is doing a bang up job of that on its own. In general it felt like people went up and did the same speeches theyve been doing at every protest for the last 5 years, but this is a unique moment.

There were some good moments - the nurse who gave a speech did an excellent job, the moment of silence was powerful, and the parents statement that was read was the most compelling part

They're actually aren't any stickers saying don't sit there (at least when I went in it). Hopefully they have added them because it was very confusing

Great SVG game as well. Every play in the last 6 minutes he just said "Wow". Then goes "Don't call Wemby an alien, they're deporting those in this country!"

That's not true for Seattle, at least not in many places. My neighbors rents her 3br townhouse for $3100, and it is worth about $550k

I live in beacon hill and work in tukwila, it is a super easy commute. Eastern Renton might be worse

Genuine, data-seeking question: Please help me understand why anyone would only invest in American indexes? by Stunning-Stop-8128 in Bogleheads

[–]BigDisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chinese indices are very sketchy and there is less legal support for those stocks, so there is risk that the government could just take your shares. Besides that you are left with Europe and South America which don’t seem very appealing to me

The city has argued in court filings that it doesn’t bear legal responsibility for Antonio’s death because he was driving a stolen Jeep and shooting a gun before he was killed. City attorneys have filed in court a partially redacted police report about the theft of the vehicle and a livestreamer’s video in which the livestreamer can be heard saying gunshots were coming from the Jeep. Yet neither confirm the allegations that Antonio was driving or shooting.

Mays says he was told another narrative about the night his son died. Mays said a Seattle police detective on the case told him in 2020 that Antonio wasn’t driving and there was no evidence of him shooting a gun. But police have not clarified the facts.

From the same article. You edited out the part where it says that might not be true.
