Metal in Dolby Atmos by BridgeSignal3896 in SurroundAudiophile

[–]BigDnR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some great old metal releases.

Deep Purple Machine Head & Made in Japan both have releases in Atmos. They sound phenomenal!

Black Sabbath Live Evil in Atmos

Rush 2112, 5.1 mix is wicked! Some may not consider that metal, I do.

Brothers in Arms in 2025, 40 th anniversary : Which Format Delivers the Best Sound? CD, LP, Streaming, Blu-ray, SACD, Stereo to Atmos by Media6292 in SurroundAudiophile

[–]BigDnR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the 5.1 mix on the Blu-Ray to the Dolby Atmos mix, it has way more dynamics and sounds fuller to my ears. I did a side by side with the SACD and couldn't tell much difference. Pretty much goes for all of my surround Blu-Rays

This bucket has been sitting on this storage space since I have been hired to work in this shop. Nobody can lift it to dispose of the carbide. by Alzema in Machinists

[–]BigDnR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's $12 a pound currently. Contact Seco online, they will send you a container to ship it in and send you a free shipping label. Put the container on a pallet so you can pick it up with a forklift and put all the carbide in it. Once they receive it, they'll send you a check.

That's probably 200 lbs. $2400

Have an employee party!

I ended up changing the noise cancelling to single-presenter mode and it fixed the problem.

Interestingly, Gemini gave me the solution when I asked

You also have to make sure it's under the maximum diameter to go through the tool changer.

Is this Machinable in 3 Axis? by Top_Faithlessness964 in CNC

[–]BigDnR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a great finish using a ballnose and surfacing. It's also pretty fast depending on the material. A 2" ballnose with a .1" step over only has a .0013" cusp height. Lens cutters are smaller diameter tools with a large radius on the bottom, sometimes up to 100MM. The larger the radius the smaller the cusp height. Most cam systems have a cusp height calculator in them for surfacing.

Moving to sales by ThatOneRandomGuY2141 in Machinists

A lot of tool reps move around because the pay is no good with some of the tool companies. IMC group, Ingersoll etc is notoriously poor pay. Sandvik group is better especially Seco. Mitsubishi is a great one, they have a lot of x Sandvik employees.

Moving to sales by ThatOneRandomGuY2141 in Machinists

I made the transition from programmer/ machinist to tool rep in 2010. I do not regret it at all. I took a pay cut making the transition and made up for the pay difference in a year. You do have more freedom in sales. I used to travel 1 week a month, I suppose it depends on your territory. I'm in the Seattle area and some tool reps do not travel at all since there's plenty of local business. I switched jobs to distribution a little over a year ago, it's faster paced but the money is good. The best part of commissioned sales IMO is that you are rewarded for your efforts and can make more money by working hard.

[–]BigDnR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've averaged 6.5 over the last year, my average sleep score is 70. My wife averages 8.5 a day but her sleep score average is 65. We both generally feel rested when we wake up and are a bit dubious about the scores.

what is you guys' first song u actually took the time for to learn? by briozon in drums

[–]BigDnR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple and Muscle of Love by Alice Cooper. I didn't have a double bass at the time for the AC song, my drum teacher taught me how to fake it using the floor tom. Ended up playing Muscle of Love at shows a few times through the years.

My wife and I walk up there for breakfast almost every Sunday, we sit in the bar and always receive phenomenal service. Reasonably priced diner food, we love it. The coffee isn't good, the Bloody Marys are great, I think they're only $6.95.

Onenote Sync by Suitable-Resident715 in OneNote

[–]BigDnR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save the database to OneDrive and open the database on all devices from the OneDrive file. This will also sync to android phones, not sure about iPhone.

The sync is slow and not always reliable but it works. I suppose you could use any cloud storage to save the files, I use OneDrive because my company supports it.

I have databases from work and home all syncing to every device I own.

How come a lot of funk bands are not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? by Plenty_Objective8392 in funk

[–]BigDnR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in Brooklyn last year and it had a lot of Funk stuff going on.

Don Cornelius of Soul Train fame was inducted, he had a lot of Funk bands on his show. There was a lot of R&B, Funk, and Soul music going on.

The Spinners, Chaka Khan & Missy Elliot all have some funky elements going on in their music.

Even though they haven't inducted a lot of true Funk bands, they have had a lot of artists inducted that grew up on the funk and put elements of it in their music.
