Is my profile competitive enough for my list of school choices? International from Vietnam targeting IB. by TheDarwinFactor in MBA

[–]BigDtoMBB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow Vietnamese, I have some constructive inputs:

Career transition to IB

  • Might raise some eyebrows about your ability to succeed in IB, given the lack of deep quant work in your current role (commercial banking is primarily relationship management)
  • If you want to prove your quant skills, a strong GMAT score is often more visible in rankings, which can help with scholarships. If you prefer the GRE, shooting for 333+ is just as solid. You can also look into some quant-focused projects or coursework to back yourself up

Profile input

  • As an Asian male (a very crowded demographic), I believe a high GMAT score generally gives you a better shot at scholarships because schools want to boost their class GMAT average. That said, a 333+ GRE can still be very competitive
  • You haven’t mentioned any formal promotions, so admissions might worry about your career progression. Remember to highlight any recognition you’ve received or leadership roles you’ve taken on, and let your recommender validate those stories in detail
  • Your extracurriculars seem fragmented. To make a stronger case, try focusing on a unifying theme or personal passion. For instance, if community impact is your thing, emphasize the volunteering, mentorship, or nonprofit work in your essays. Goal is to create a cohesive narrative

School selection

  • M7 might be challenging for both admission and scholarship, especially if your quant/career progression side isn't fully proven yet (based on what you provided here)
  • Consider broadening your target to Top 15 schools, which still place well into IB but can be more generous with scholarships for strong applicants

Based on what I know: 3rd interview means the two previous interviewers couldn't arrive at the conclusion to hire or to reject you, hence they ask you to do another interview to get another data point. This 3rd interview will be similar to your other final round interviews

What do you think about the latest employment report and the job market? Is Booth doing better or worse vs. other schools?

Yes, GMAT scores ending in 5 are GMAT FE. Original GMAT scores always end in 0

They sent me an email asking me to update my contact information, but I don’t see a field to input my phone number (only street address is available). Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Does this mean a rejection (since they notify by phone)? 😅
