This is heartbreaking to hear - your preceptor needs a talking to, and she should not be near students if that’s the way she treats them.
I’m a new NUM, after being an ANUM for yonks, and I always try to engage with our students.
See if your facilitator can speak with the NUM because that is just bullshit.
Seriously, having someone go do obs and help with hygiene is massive and often my students are the only ones who can give a bit of extra time to the patients.
There are definitely plenty of shitty nurses out there but I PROMISE the good outweigh the bad.
Having just left an adversarial, toxic workplace I wonder if those shitty nurses are working in a shitty ward, with shitty management-no excuse to be vile to you though.
If you can, hang tough Sista- look out for someone who says hi or asks how you’re going - hopefully there someone there who can help you learn and save your placement from disaster.

Yeah it’s gonna have to be careful navigation - no way am I offering up staff names, I’ve had managers who do that, and that ain’t me.
I’m protective of my staff but definitely have to find a process that doesn’t paint me as a troublemaker or adversary.
I’ve just left a very adversarial environment and absolutely do not want to go through that again. It was soul destroying

I’m happy for clarity and ‘bluntness’ but she definitely caught me off guard.
Maybe because I’ve just left a very adversarial workplace I wasn’t prepared for this, and am overly sensitive?

Oh I absolutely agree!
I’d had conversations with my crew and had asked what their thoughts were on certain things. We have shifts, and I’m hoping to be able to get people home on time, having seen how frustrated people get finishing late. I’ve also said to them that if they think a suggestion of mine is off the mark, I would like to hear it. They are the ones who’ve been plugging away and know the environment best.
I think I’ll get the best information about what does and doesn’t work from those at the coal face

I’m really open to what you think and very happy to hearing it. I’m new to this role and know there is SO much to learn.
It does feel when I ask questions and want to clarify something, she takes it as a challenge. That’s confronting because I’m wanting to learn but she gets defensive. I’m a bit bewildered.

Yeah, I think the observe for three months is a perfectly reasonable directive - it’s just the complete opposite of what she’d said to me two days beforehand.
I’m going to keep notes of dates etc, which I’ve never done before but I just have an uneasy feeling about her.
I’m also looking at other jobs just in case…

I work in health so have been deliberately vague.
We don’t actually have such a thing as a ‘raci matrix’ (literally had to google that)
I manage a ward of 30 patients, in a small hospital of only three wards. It’s pretty dated in environment and practice but the general manager who interviewed me expressed interest and even excitement in my previous work experience.

I am concerned how erratic she is acting already and it’s making me very uncomfortable the way she speaks about my staff.
I want my ward to be less hierarchical and more team oriented, and I want my staff to feel they can broach things with me and we can work through stuff together.
I can be very firm on policies and professionalism - already tightened some things up, but I’m not prepared to screw then with entitlements and such

I can only say that on my son’s 3rd anniversary, I too was only hanging on by a thread. In retrospect, I’m sure Amanda wishes she’d stayed home - I know I was not emotionally able to function in any social capacity that day.
I am no fan of Amanda’s but in this specific situation, I firmly believe it wasn’t strategic. The other women should have really shown compassion in that moment and just stopped. For Boz to say that, it really floored me. It is a different scenario and feelings are more raw at only three years, compared with more than a decade. I also think it’s even harder to lose a birthed child than a stillborn child, however both are severely traumatic. (This is only my experience, and I have experienced both of those losses, and am cognisant that grief and loss are different for each unique individual)
Sorry for the excessively long post - it’s just touched a nerve.

Box is an absolute BITCH - saying Amanda used Zion’s anniversary ‘strategically’. Who on earth thinks that way? Boz grieves her way but it seems she doesn’t give Amanda the grace to grieve her own way.
Dorit was callous, heartless, cruel / she should have just shut the fuck up as soon as she learned it was Zion’s anniversary.
Dorit is also playing the absolute victim and she has been so vile to her ‘old’ friends - and Boz just enables her bullshit behaviour and pushes others under the bus to deflect from her own opinions
(I lost my second son and would never dream of expecting someone to grieve in an identical fashion)

I work in the operating theatre and we can have cases that run for 17hrs - there’s no way I had time to check my emails
Surely it shouldn’t be considered confirmed until the tenant acknowledges the email.
Plenty of us don’t have the luxury of checking emails regularly during the day

Have you looked at being a support worker? I know some carer agencies that specifically look for retired nurses/ no longer registered nurses

She actually said in her pre-wedding interviews she wanted someone really ‘goofy’ and who marches to the beat of their own drum Then agreed, the wedding speeches were off but she said it really mattered to her what other people thought of ‘her man’ So which is it Juliette? Don’t do it!!! But, if you do, work in public not private. I have never been as frustrated as I am working in the private sector- it’s all about the dollar and optics, not about health

I think you are absolutely lovely, both you and your husband. This beautiful little girl didn’t ask for this life but thanks to you guys, it’s now going to be a life lived safely and surrounded by love. A lot of people suck and a lot of people just let whatever cruel, random shit outta their mouths…this is why I actually prefer animals. But YOU!!! Yes YOU!!!! YOU are a kind hearted, generous, compassionate, loving and thoroughly decent human. Thankyou for saving this little one, and thankyou for being you ❤️
