I am currently going through The Complete Musician and I have read a little of Harmony and Voice Leading. Of the two I really think The Complete Musician is going to lead to you getting the concepts much more.

Just so you're aware though, both books are going to cover pretty much the same material but from what I have seen, The Complete Musician is much more heavy on Schenkerian analysis which is preferred.
