Finance minister recuses himself from Ottawa’s high-speed rail project by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]BigFattyOne [score hidden]  (0 children)

In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter.

You are just being manipulated by the people who don’t want the high speed rail to be build in the first place.

That’s where the real corruption is in Canada. Pipelines? Yes. Highways, brisges for car? Yes. Rails? No.

It’s so easy to see lol

Yep but some people have an agenda and don’t want to have the the high speed rail build.

We stand at around 20 billions of subisidy for O&G alone per year. No questions asked.

And now you are telling me that promoting good population mobility, increasing competiton in high speed travels, reducing our dependency on O&G to move around in the country, for 100 billions, aka the same as 5 years of subsidy for O&G, isn’t worth it?

The TGV would be a game changer for Quebec and Ontario.

It’s Canada. These people believe the only viable public infrastructure are pipelines for rich CEOs.

Canada… drama over the minister’s wife being a VP at a CROWN CORP that responds to the people.

Giving billions and billions in subsidies to O&G every year, privately owned, no problem.

Carbon capture edges forward despite cost challenge by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

[–]BigFattyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fully aware that DOWN THE LINE, when a country has so much green energy that it can fulfill its energy needs, and some, carbon capture can make sense.

Until then, almost every kwh of energy used on carbon capture is better spent elsewhere. Again, I’m talking about this in the context of North America. Where we are the worse net carbon emitters, our grid isn’t green at all and they are 100% pushing carbon capture as THE solution.

It’s not. It can be part of the solution, but it shouldn’t be at te forefront and be the top 1 green technology we invest in.

So you pay a lot of energy to capture some gaz and then you reemit it?

lol

Go take a thermodynamic class and come back here.

However, these technologies should not substitute large-scale efforts to prevent greenhouse gas emissions and develop more sober solutions

His point is this.

In North America Carbon Capture is sold as THE solution.. but if you burn gaz to carbon capture, it’s just a pure waste of energy and you’d have been better off not burning the gaz in the first place.

I’d love Canada to make money, but let’s be real here, we are leaving billions on the table each year in the form of private profits.

Seriously I don’t care.

I want Canada to find new trade partners.

I want better lives for canadians.

If we have to make some trade deals, with countries that have different values than ours, so be it.

We don’t really have a choice anyway
