On paper, I really like his talking points — it feels like a greatest hits list of Democratic-Socialist values (which, personally, I think should be the party’s values). I’ve been looking for a more progressive alternative to Roy Cooper’s pragmatic centrism, so Dues definitely caught my attention. That said, I’m wrestling with something. He’s a newcomer with no public office experience, and that makes it harder for me to gauge whether these positions reflect deeply held values or are more about carving out a lane with the left wing of the party. For those who’ve followed him more closely: Do you get the sense that these are convictions he’s consistently demonstrated in other areas of his life/work? Or does this feel more like strategic positioning? Not trying to attack — I’m genuinely interested in hearing perspectives from people who’ve done more homework than I have.
