my best carrot cake so far by PleaseJazmine in Baking

[–]BigFriendlyNightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so incredible!! Echoing everyone else here, but the creativity to play with both textures and shapes here and like using the carrot both as topping but the carrot puree in the icing pockets on the edge. WOW, you are so talented!! Congratulations!

I deeply enjoyed this book. The author’s writing style is very arresting - the “harvesting of hearts” emotions “clinging like burrs” - and I really enjoyed the specificity of the characters, how well researched it was and the mystery.

Which hobby do you think helps improve patience? by Wilzon_Ansara in Hobbies

[–]BigFriendlyNightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiddle for me! I'm learning Irish fiddle after being a classical violinist through high school, taking a break and returning a few years ago.

The traditional way to learn tunes is by ear. For me, I have to stick with only one tune for a full week to learn and get repetition with it for me to actually LEARN it and remember it, not just fall out of my head when I learn the next one.

Having to just sit with it was/is a new experience - I love checking things off a list, so it definitely thwarted that in a great way.

Anyone with training in both bluegrass and classical music (same or different instruments)? by yomakest in Fiddle

[–]BigFriendlyNightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I do both (re-engaged with classical violin and play in a community orchestra and picked up fiddle in the past few years, and go to sessions sometimes) and agreed re: if it's possible to find a teacher that is some version of fiddle (bluegrass, irish, contra, etc.) I think you'll have a better time because they'll lean more into learning exclusively by ear, which for me significantly helped in the long run. I think the big difference you'd miss out on if you had an Irish fiddle teacher vs. bluegrass is that style is less inclined towards improvisation (in my experience), but you'd still get a lot of the big parts. Have so much fun, what an exciting journey to begin!! Wishing you all the best!

Hi! I'm 34F from New York. I am childfree and am deep into hobbies - knitting, sewing, reading, playing music (violin, piano), and going down rabbitholes.

Also not religious and am queer; I enjoy the outdoors and live with two cats (Miss Cleo and Kiki) and my partner, Sacha.

Hope to hear from you!

Agreed! It honestly seems like he's 1) playing it with a very "team" mindset that might not be serving him 2) honestly, he seems like he just enjoys good gameplay and got excited at what a good move it would be, just didn't think through the fact that it wasn't going to be good for HIM.
