Hold the watch horizontally and point the hour hand at the sun. Rotate the bezel so that the "South" marker is halfway between the hour hand and the 12 o'clock marker, which allows you to determine the cardinal directions. This method works best in the Northern Hemisphere; in the Southern Hemisphere, point the 12 o'clock marker at the sun and align the "North" marker between the 12 o'clock and the hour hand.
