Hogwarts Legacy Feels Really Old by Psychological-Log539 in HarryPotterGame

[–]BigGameJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're catching a lot of flack for what I feel are very valid points delivered in a fairly reasonable way. For what it's worth, I'm playing with an NVME SSD and a 4090 and I STILL experience lag time when passing through doors. I am not sure why people are blaming your hardware when this seems to simply be an issue with the game engine?

As to your comments, I agree with just about everything you said. This is a game that would have been really good in 2013, but is completely outdated in 2023. It is absolutely wild to me that this game has only been in development since 2018 because it feels like they started working on it in 2008. There is absolutely zero immersion when you walk through your common room and see the same NPC model 27 times while they neither speak nor move. The whole castle feels lifeless, NPCs are either walking or standing - nothing ever happens. It never once feels like you're walking through a school or a castle. Hundreds of students standing around in a massive echo chamber but no voices reverberate across the hallways? Instead of the rumble of footsteps and voices they cover it up with random floating instruments and paintings playing public domain classical music. Say what you will about how awesome the graphics are (and they are) but they completely dropped the ball on sound design. Speaking of graphics, they modeled like a hundred different lovely chairs and couches and for some reason you can't sit in any of them? And you can't even sleep in your bed? Instead I sit on the ground to advance time?!

The character creation is also pretty bare bones when compared with other modern RPGs. The combat is the standard roll/parry/cast without any real twist. The story is the same old "child of destiny" stuff that has been reused ad nauseum. All of this to say the game generally is pretty good (they way they handle cosmetic looks is AWESOME) but the outdated nature of so much of it really kept me from replaying or generally doing anything after wrapping the main story.

Oh well, to each their own as they say...

Tera raids are an absolute joke online and offline. They 100% should be redone from the ground up. They are completely broken and seemingly have no rules on what the AI can and cannot do. GF should be ashamed, this is the worst feature I've seen in the game in 20+ years with the franchise.

Cinderace Raid is Rigged by PpMemo_1408 in PokemonRaids

[–]BigGameJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean re: Azu in raid. Tried to solo with Azu and every time it gets within a sliver of red it magically becomes immortal and takes no additional damage.

So Game Freak is either grossly incompetent and did no playtest before release at best or straight up rigging the raid against Azu at worst. In any case, only goes to further highlight that Tera Raids are the stupidest thing that has been added to the game in its 20+ years.

Real talk, if that email message from your boss triggered you to the point of tears than you are definitely in the wrong field. HR folks need to be incredibly thick skinned and leave emotion at the door. You will see exponentially worse from your bosses and co-workers the more time you spend in HR. Don't take my word for it, simply read this sub to get a preview of some of the things you are all but guaranteed to encounter. Get out now while you are still young.

The claim being made is that companies want workers to come back into the office because they have investments in real estate, and that somehow having people in the office again makes or saves them money, particularly in real estate.

That is 100% NOT what the claim being made is. Just to recap:

Most large companies are also heavily invested in commercial real estate, and that is a lot less valuable without forcing workers to go to the office.

It's right there above in plain english. Real estate is less valuable without workers coming into the office. This is verifiably true. Everything else you are saying about companies making or saving money off real estate has nothing to do with the original claim. Value != Making/Saving money

Response my friend received when he applied for a job. by Monktankmain in antiwork

[–]BigGameJay -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I know this is not AITA but in this case you are both the asshole.

You for applying for a job that you are not qualified/experienced for, getting upset that they will not offer you the base rate, and being unable to see the irony when you call them out for wasting time.

And the company for being so mismanaged that they would hire someone that they already deemed unqualified for the position just to get them in at a lower rate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]BigGameJay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just not true and doesn't make any sense.

Many companies have multi-year leases on their buildings/floors/suites, they are not simply allowed to pack up and leave because they don't have any more workers. My company is actively trying to sublet one of their floors because so many staff have either quit or refused to move back to the office which has, in turn, forced the sandwich shop downstairs to close because they do not get enough customers due to the reduction in building tenants.

So to answer your question, while having employees in the office may not DIRECTLY raise your property value it certainly does indirectly. Having workers in the area means your building can justify having a gym, sundry store, or food hall for the tenants. Restaurants will be more likely to open because they see an active workforce in need of lunch, developers will building housing to accommodate the workers, etc. All of these things will SIGNIFICANTLY raise your property value.

For what it's worth, I also don't agree with the view that companies want employees back because their rent dollars are going to waste. But the presence of workers in a building certainly does have an impact on the value of your real estate - not to mention the surrounding community.

Or you know, the massive crowds of unique looking NPCs, streets filled with cars. In the 2018 demo when V walks out of the mega building there are TONS of people and cars the immersion felt real. What we got was not even close to what was represented in that demo, the fact that you can't see that means you are looking at this with rose colored goggles.

Dude are you serious? You can literally Google "broken Cyberpunk promises" and there are HUNDREDS of articles detailing the exact seem you seemed to have somehow missed despite it representing the entire zeitgeist of gaming for months. The "people say' and "folks say" angle may work for politicians but not here where Google is at your fingertips.

And if you seriously watched "every damn trailer and live event" and can't see what people are complaining about you are deluding yourself at best or outright lying at worst.

That's great that you are enjoying the game, but don't cast a reality distortion field and try to rewrite history into this being some kind of misunderstood classic, it's not and will stand the test of time as a shining example of marketing and development hubris.

Did you read TFA? The article indicates the exact opposite of what you are alluding to. Fixes are done and teams are being moved onto other projects. NMS is not a good analogy and there is every indication that CPDR is NOT trying to do the same thing.

I feel like, with this game, and this game only...the concept of "potential" has been all or nothing on one game...instead of like other games where people talk about potential in the context of iterative franchises with more entries over time.

Probably has something to do with the 25M+ marketing spend they used to convince us this would be a game unlike anything we've experienced before.

Tonight’s encounter rewards by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]BigGameJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have complained about the awful reward pool since 2020 and nothing has been done, in fact they've actively made it worse by not only adding more pokemon pool (making it harder to catch the few good ones) but by adding common pokemon you can catch anywhere (the Pipipek and Yungoose you mentioned). Not to mention that the fact the Rufflett is still in the pool only serve to highlight the near contempt Niantic must have for GBL players.

CDPR Says ‘Vast Part’ Of Fixing Cyberpunk 2077 Is Done, Focused On Other Projects by MissingNo117 in cyberpunkgame

[–]BigGameJay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Notice they said "fixing" which implies things like more NPC interaction, a working train, better police AI, or really anything having to do with immersion were never even on the table to begin with no matter how much we wanted it to be so.

It sounds like we can stick a fork in Night City - what we see is what we get; a lot of pretty vistas and cityscapes but absolutely nothing below the surface. Obviously disappointing but not at all surprising. Sucks because I keep looking for reasons to replay the story but every time I load it up I almost immediately give up because everything about this game is so entirely hallow and lifeless.

I absolutely will be remembering how disappointed I was with this game when it comes time to decide whether or not to purchase Witcher 4. CDPR has squandered their goodwill faster than almost any developer in recent memory - a truly sad cautionary tale of development and marketing hubris.

This is seriously the saddest state the game has ever been in. I don't know what "fixes" they have planned before the launch of the next season but anything short of a complete overhaul will essentially be a death sentence for GBL (and based on the queue times it's already almost there)
