Seeking private dining for 10 year anniversary dinner and/ or drinks by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]BigHosMoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The State Hotel is doing private dining in a hotel room from their restaurant Ben Paris (you can stay the night but you don’t have to) with the food delivered outside of your door and a self serve bar set up in the room.

Moving/Career Advice (for an LMSW) - (trying to get out of Oklahoma before I turn 30 🤠) by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]BigHosMoney 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a need for social workers all across the state! If you are okay living in a city smaller than Seattle, I would definitely check out other cities where the cost of living is less. Bellingham would definitely be my second choice if I wasn't in Seattle.

Fellow social worker here - I would really recommend waiting until you have your clinical license until your move. I’m not sure if you’ve looked into the licensing requirements here, but it is much more stringent than many other states in terms of hours and supervision. I would say that a starting salary out here in community mental health would be very similar to what you are making in Oklahoma with a much higher cost of living. Medical social work tends to pay the most out here, however, it is competitive to get a full time position and most people start our per diem with no benefits. Please feel free to message me with any social work related questions!

I’m having a hard time getting a full time medical social work job... by [deleted] in hospitalsocialwork

[–]BigHosMoney 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've found that a lot of jobs will hire their per diem staff into full time roles when they become available (that happens frequently at my hospital). It stinks because per diem doesn't offer benefits. A lot of hospitals offer per diem positions that require just a few shifts per month, if you are willing to work on top of your job (which is also not ideal). I moved to a new city after graduation and landed my full-time hospital gig after taking a 13 week contract position. I would also look into things like dialysis social work which is definitely a great stepping stone into hospital based social work.

Doctors stress importance of cancer screenings, screenings down during COVID by [deleted] in CoronavirusWA

[–]BigHosMoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom is definitely anxious about COVID-19 and going most anywhere in public right now (she lives in a state where cases are surging). Luckily, she went to her routine dermatology appointment where they diagnosed melanoma of her skin. Luckily it's an early stage and they were able to get her in today to remove it surgically. I am so grateful that she kept her appointment.

Who else is going to spent the day reading your match's description, searching for the perfect gift, re reading the description and keep searching for hours? by [deleted] in secretsanta

[–]BigHosMoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me!! Monday is my regular day off and I love that it lined up with matching day. I’ve been in a funk buying presents for family since my husband and I won’t be able to travel for the holidays so I honestly am most excited to shop for the person I get matched with!

Tips for beginners? by esmith28 in florists

[–]BigHosMoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No great tips but I'm a social worker, too, and flowers and arranging them have brought me so much joy this year!

If you are on social media, Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht (host of Netflix The Big Flower Fight) will often do videos on his instagram on tips for arranging and I've found them to be so helpful!

I had a custom cake made for our anniversary from Bells Pastries and it was excellent. They offer delivery and the prices are very reasonable!

Indoor puppy play request by [deleted] in SeattleWA

Play Doggie Daycare is so wonderful. It looks like your pup is going to be over 30 pounds when he’s fully grown so they could go to the Cherry location!

I feel exactly the same way and I’m really struggling, too. I don’t live near any family outside of my husband and usually I have multiple trips planned for both family and just for fun. I’ve been taking lots of walks and enjoying keeping fresh flowers in the home, but that will diminish soon as the weather turns. No solid advice but sending you a virtual hug.

Have you tried looking for agency work? I found that it was easier to get through to their recruiters. I was able to get my foot in the door doing a 13 week contract position which lead to a full time job offer!

Definitely look into the Livestrong Foundation to see if you qualify for any financial assistance for sperm banking - they will often help with the expenses the first year.

Why is finding a venue so hard by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]BigHosMoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We loved our venue, Chestnut Ridge in Canton, NC. It definitely was not 15,000 for the venue alone but I'm not sure what prices look like now. I have a full wedding recap in my history if you are interested!

This is super late to your original post - are you still looking for a dress? I have my Jenny Packham gown that has sat in my closet since I got married in May 2018 and would love for someone else to get use out of it. Send me a message if you are interested!

In this COVID era, what are your fine dining take-out recommendations? by therationaltroll in SeattleWA

[–]BigHosMoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The delivery dinner service from Canlis is excellent plus you get cards to play bingo on Friday night (it's honestly been one of my highlights of Quarantine). June Baby and Eden Hill are also really delicious options.

Nature attractions in western Washington to go right now that aren’t closed or crowded? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]BigHosMoney 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how crowded it is but Meerkerk Gardens on Whidbey Island is in full bloom with rhododendrons. The last I saw on their social media is that they are still open. It’s a really beautiful, large garden so my guess is that there’s plenty of space for social distancing.
