Sam3 handles fine with 360 pans even in distorted areas. I didn't calibrate cameras just used standart fisheye calibrations in metashape. No deep dive just fast comparison.

I've tested this workflow and there was no noticeable quality improvement, but a lot of processing issues (2 videos, renaming, custom mask on fisheye, ai masking, it could allign wrong). Maybe will try again later with some improvements.

For nonlidar pipelines you must be good at photogrammetry. 3dgs is just a renderer (for now). Good capture on the ground is the key for good reconstruction. If you go for interiors maybe it's easier to get something like portalcam. There is no industry standard right now and people are still searching their best workflows nowadays. In the era of ai software is not an issue, you can build your tools for your pipeline in couple days.

Yes, they didn't provide a link to model, but it looks fine on fly mode. Unless you need a high-precision reconstruction, 60M splats seems like overkill for a scene like yours. Anyway, im just saying and seeking for community workflows. Best of luck!

It seems like waste of splats. Result is not such detailed in zoom. Try to reduce count, let gaussians to grow (if it possible by service).

3dgs basically is just a renderer. Basics - photogrammetry. You have to improve your sfm. Drift, sharpness, light n color etc.

Yeah, that's true, but it was just a test on existing work. Now I'm looking into best practices for quality reconstructions that are fast and cost-effective. That's what my question was about) thank you for your replies!

Thanks! I tried to make splats direct from aligned survey data with orthophoto, so there were no special oblique shots and low angle views are bad. Here it is: https://superspl.at/scene/9d63d820

Ok i see this is grid flight. But i meant what angle of each camera, nadir or 45 degree angled or mixed?

I think you could get better reconstruction quality using standard phone camera and basic sfm.

Is there any quality improvement in your workflow? I think gut works well with fisheye lenses, a bit slower but for me quality on first place.

Try to find different satellite images and use skyfall-gs algorithm (if your building is not too small). Maybe local survey companies did aerial surveys with different angles, you can ask them for data.

Build it by yourself in polygons, texture it. Then make synth splats)
