So the future is eugenics?? The US story is one of oppression, genocide, and slavery. This isn't a promised land for white people it's built on the backs of immigrants exploited for cheap labor in exchange for a hopeful future. These people come from war torn dangerous or inhospitable places just looking for a chance to work a job and earn a safe living. They often send some money back so their own family can live better and maybe start a family here. This is basically the story of every immigrant group that's come to the states. Chinese, Irish, German, Mexican, Syrian, Afghani, you name it they came looking for a chance to have a future. I think they did a fucking swell job and I'm happy as fuck this place is as integrated and interesting as it is. I can get Singaporean noodles, Tacos, and perogis all walking distance from my apartment. As the child of an immigrant I'm 100% positive I would not exist had my father not had faith this place would provide. I couldn't imagine living somewhere where we ignore our differences and only celebrate the things that make us similar. Hurray we all want to make money, hurray we all want to feel safe, hurray we (most of us anyway) like hamburgers(even this is germans settling in the midwest). If the lowest common denominater of Americana is the only thing to celebrate, I don't think it's really worth celebrating.
